Firmware update for LaCie USB devices

This firmware update will:


Prevent potential compatibility issues with Time Machine.
Disable the automatic Eco Mode after five minutes of inactivity. Eco Mode for your LaCie hard
drive can be configured in System Preferences.
Supported devices:
LaCie Porsche Design P'9230
LaCie Porsche Design P'9231
LaCie Porsche Design P'9220
LaCie Porsche Design P'9221
LaCie Rugged Mini
LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 (Models that feature Eco Mode only)
Caution before running the update:
You must have administration rights to your computer.
Know your adminstrator password. If you do not have a password, please create one before
moving to the Initial steps. The update will not accept a blank field as a password. Instructions
to create a password are available at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
Do not change the name of the Update folder or files downloaded from LaCie. Doing so will
prevent the update from running properly.
Initial steps:
1. Disconnect all LaCie peripherals attached to your computer. Please run this update on one
compatible LaCie device at a time.
2. Download and, if necessary, extract the Update file.
3. Open the downloaded folder. Double-click on LaCieFirmwareUpdater.
4. The Terminal will launch automatically. Enter your computer's administrator password when
prompted.
5. If LaCie Desktop Manager is not installed on your computer or you have an older version, the
firmware update will install LaCie Desktop Manager automatically. If you have the correct
version of LaCie Desktop Manager, the update will continue. Follow the directions below for
your situation.
LaCie Desktop Manager installation starts automatically:
a) Follow the prompts to install LaCie Desktop Manager.
b) Once complete, the Terminal will ask you to restart. Please click Enter or Return to reboot the
computer. LaCie Desktop Manager will also launch but please disregard it.
c) Upon reboot, the older Terminal window may be open. Please close it.
d) Launch LaCieFirmwareUpdater. A new Terminal window will launch again.
e) Wait ten seconds then connect your LaCie device to your computer. The updater will recognize
the disk. LaCie Desktop Manager may launch automatically but all prompts come from the
Terminal.
f) If the Terminal window indicates that the firmware is up to date, you can quit the program and
use your LaCie hard drive.
g) If an update is necessary, you will be prompted to type the number 1. Another prompt will ask
you to select Y to continue or N to stop. Since this important update is non-destructive and your
data will remain intact, LaCie recommends that you select Y.
h) When the Terminal indicates that the firmware update is complete, please unmount your LaCie
partition(s) and power off the hard drive.
i) Quit the Terminal and wait ten seconds before turning the power back on.
j) Launch LaCieFirmwareUpdater to make certain that the firmware has been updated.
LaCie Desktop Manager is already installed:

a) Connect your LaCie device to the computer. The updater will recognize the disk. LaCie Desktop
Manager may launch automatically but all prompts come from the Terminal.
b) If the Terminal window indicates that the firmware is up to date, you can quit the program and
use your LaCie hard drive.
c) If an update is necessary, you will be prompted to type the number 1. Another prompt will ask
you to select Y to continue or N to stop. Since this important update is non-destructive and your
data will not be deleted, LaCie recommends that you select Y.
d) When the Terminal indicates that the firmware update is complete, please unmount your LaCie
partition(s) and power off the hard drive.
e) Quit the Terminal and wait ten seconds before turning the power back on.
f) Launch LaCieFirmwareUpdater to make certain that the firmware has been updated.
