About Atmel India University Program Embedded Design Contest 2014

The Atmel Embedded Design Contest (AEDC-2014) aims to inspire engineering
students to showcase their embedded design skills and help them to design and
develop novel embedded design applications based on Atmel microcontroller kits such
as Atmel Xmega-A3BU Xplained, and SAM D20 Xplained Pro evaluation kit. These
applications include energy harvesting, robotic design, bio-medical, automotive, solar
and security. AEDC-2014 will recognize outstanding innovation and achievement by
university students in the field of embedded design using Atmel components.

Eligibility Criteria
AEDC-2014 is open to teams of individuals who are full-time college or university students in India. A team can have a
maximum of three students. Each team must register by filing an application using the Official Entry form, which must include
each team members name, address, telephone number, and email address. Each team must have at least one supervisor
from the participating Institute. Employees of Atmel Corporation, its affiliates, subsidiaries, resellers, and advertising and
promotional agencies, and their immediate families are not eligible to participate in AEDC-2014 as members of a team or
as faculty mentors.

Phase I: Design
Registration for AEDC-2014 opens on July 1, 2014, and the deadline for entries is August 17, 2014. Each team will need to
submit a proposal that includes a design and application as a standard PDF document no larger than 3MB. The submission
must contain sufficient text, diagrams, and flow charts along with the required evaluation kit for designing a proposed
application. Each entry should contain a Certificate of Original Work (http://www.atmel.com/images/Certificate_of_original_
work.pdf), completed by the Principal or Head of the Department of the educational institution. Teams whose proposals have
been accepted for the AEDC-2014 contest will be notified. The short-listed teams will then enter the implementation phase
and evaluation kits will be provided free of cost to them.

Phase II: Implementation

In the Implementation phase, Atmel will select the teams submitting the top 100 proposals to receive kits (MCU required*).
Projects must use either (a) an Atmel Xmega A3BU Xplained for 8-bit applications or (b) a SAM D20 Xplained Pro
evaluation kit for 32-bit applications and Atmel processors. All the shortlisted teams will receive the Atmel evaluation kit no
later than Sepetember15, 2014 and will need to complete and submit the design by February15, 2015. However, it is
mandatory for every AEDC participating team to submit the first progress report by October 15, 2014 and second progress
report no later than November 15, 2014. The complete project report along with the video must be submitted by
February15, 2015.

Phase III: Competition

Ten finalists will be selected from the teams completing Phase II. Those teams will be invited to bring their completed
projects to the final design contest to be held during the Annual Professor Summit in March 2015 at MIT, Pune.
