The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus (stylized as iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s

Plus) are smartphones designed by Apple Inc. The devices are part of
the iPhone series and were announced on September 9, 2015 at the Bill Graham
Civic Auditorium in San Francisco by Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook. The iPhone 6S
and iPhone 6S Plus jointly serve as successors to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6
Plus of 2014.[12]
The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are the performance versions over their
respective predecessors, featuring improved hardware specifications, including
3D Touch, a force-sensitive touchscreen; upgraded rear-facing and front-facing
cameras; a faster processor; a new chassis made of a stronger 7000 Series [citation

Aluminium alloy; second-generation Touch ID; improved LTEand Wi-

Fi connectivity; and a new rose gold finish in addition to the space gray, silver,
and gold finishes found on the previous models, while maintaining an identical
design. The devices ship with iOS 9 preinstalled.
As of September 28, 2015, 13 million iPhone 6S and 6S Plus models have been
sold, setting a new first-weekend sales record, up from the 10 million iPhone 6
and 6 Plus units sold the previous year.

History[edit]
Before the official unveiling, images of the iPhone 6S were leaked online.
Although unofficial, the leaks confirmed several of the phone's features. Some of
these leaked features included the iPhone 6S model that has
16 gigabyte storage, a new near-field communication processor, and fewer chips
compared to the older models of the iPhone.[14]
The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus were officially unveiled on September 9,
2015 during a press event named "Hey Siri, give us a hint."[15] at the Bill Graham
Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.[12][16] Preorders for the iPhone 6S and the
iPhone 6S Plus started on September 12, 2015. Both devices became available
in stores on September 25, 2015, starting at $199 and $299 on a two-year
contract, $649 and $749 off-contract.[17]
During the release weekend, 13 million iPhone 6S and 6S Plus models were sold
that set a new first-weekend sales record.[13]

In the past with S-Model iPhones people commonly assume that due to the lack
of design changes there is not many or even any changes, but with the iPhone
6s, Apple made the slogan "The Only Thing That's Changed Is Everything" as an
attempt to combat this misconception.
The iPhone 7 won't be released until the fall of 2016, so it's still several months off. Apple's
current flagship devices are the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus, released to the public in
September of 2015. Though we have months to go until the iPhone 7 launches, rumors have
already been trickling out, giving us some details on what we might see when the device is
released.
Apple has used an alternating "S" naming formula to mark years where the iPhone does not
receive a major redesign since the debut of the iPhone 3GS in 2009.
