tothisdayduetoitsspecialstatusinarticle370of
theIndianconstitution.Someotherstateswhich
werecreatedafterindependencesuchasAssamand
MadhyaBharatalsoissuedstamps.
Meanwhile,manyrevenueissuesbothbeforeand
afterindependenceexistwithprovincialorstate
overprints.Overprintsareknownfromabout75

Inaddition,hundis,analternativemoneytransmissionsystemwidelyused
intheIndiansubcontinent,oftenbearapreprintedrevenuestamp.[5]

FrenchandPortugueseIndia
FrenchIndiahadseparaterevenuestampsuntil1954.Afteritbecamepart
ofIndia,Pondicherryissuedseveralrevenues.InitiallyFrenchIndiastamps
weresurchargedinIndiancurrency,andlaterseparatestampswereissued
inscribedeitherTimbreMobileorTimbreQuittance.LaterPondicherry
AusedIndian12Anna
overprintedIndianrevenueswiththenameofthestate,annastampswere
stampedpaperdated
usedbeforeandafterindependencedenominationslike2annas,whichwill
1938.
begraduallybecomepartofrevenue,laterdenominatioslike10rsand20rs
inlate70sprofussinglybuttheintroductionofthethesestampsin1978and
later,higherdenominationslike50rsand100rswerehavingthehighestcapabilityinrevenueandduties
laterandthiscontinuedtothe1980,PortugueseIndiaalsoissueditsownrevenues.In1954,Dadraand

NagarHaveliwasliberatedfromPortugueseIndiaanditissueda
singlerevenuestamp.AftertheliberationofGoain1961,
PortugueseIndianrevenueswereoverprintedwithnewvaluesin
IndiancurrencyforuseasCourtFeeorRevenuestamps.Later
variousIndianrevenueswereoverprintedGoa,Daman&Diu
foruseintheformerPortugueseterritories.Thiscontinueduntil
the1970s.
