HIGHLIGHTS OF SRI LANKA - 06Nights/ 07Days

DAY 1

AIRPORT/ DAMBULLA
Touch down at the Bandaranaike International Airport to be warmly
greeted and welcomed by our airport representative.
Breakfast can be arranged depending on the flight details.
You would be driven to Dambulla.
Evening leisure at the hotel.
Optional- Do a Jeep safari at Minneriya National Park.
Overnight stayat the hotel in Dambulla.

Dambullais a big town, situated in the Matale District, Central Province of Sri Lanka,
situated 148 km north-east of Colombo and 72 km north of Kandy. Due to its
location at a major junction, it's the center of vegetable distribution in the country.
Major attractions of the area include the largest and best preserved cave temple complex of Sri Lanka, and the
RangiriDambulla International Stadium, famous for being built in just 167 days. The area also boasts the largest
rose quartz mountain range in South Asia, and the Iron wood forest, or Na UyanaAranya.
Minneriya National Parkis a national park in North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The area was designated as a
national park on 12 August 1997, having been originally declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1938. The reason for
declaring the area as protected is to protect the catchment of Minneriya tank and the wildlife of the surrounding
area. The tank is of historical importance, having been built by King Mahasen in third century AD. The park is a dry
season feeding ground for the elephant population dwelling in forests of Matale, Polonnaruwa, and Trincomalee
districts.Along with Kaudulla and Girithale, Minneriya forms one of the 70 Important Bird Areas (IBAs) of Sri
Lanka. The park is situated 182 kilometres (113 mi) from Colombo.

DAY 2

DAMBULLA/ SIGIRIYA/ KANDY


Have Breakfast and climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
Optional- Visit Dambulla Rock Cave Temple
Thereafter leave for Kandy.
En route visit a herbal and spice garden in Mathale.
Evening Commence a city tour of Kandy with the cultural dance
performance.
Overnight stay at the hotel inKandy.

Sigiriya Rock Fortress - King Kasyapa built his palace on the top of this rock and
decorated its sides with colorful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up
the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The
name of this place is derived from this structure Shgiri, the Lion Rock. The
capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used
as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of
the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning. It is the most visited historic site in Sri Lanka.
Dambulla cave templealso known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla is aWorld Heritage Site (1991) in Sri Lanka,
situated in the central part of the country. This site is situated 148 km east of Colombo and 72 km north of Kandy.
It is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding
plains.There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding area. Major attractions are spread over 5
caves, which contain statues and paintings. These paintings and statues are related to Lord Buddha and his life.
There total of 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of gods and goddesses.

Kandy is a major city in Sri Lanka, located in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. It is the second largest city in the
country after Colombo. It was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka. The city lies in the midst of
hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is both an
administrative and religious city and is also the capital of the Central Province. Kandy is the home of The
Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri DaladaMaligawa), one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist
world. It was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988.

KANDY / NUWARA ELIYA


Breakfast at the hotel.
Visit Royal Botanical Garden, Peradeniya.
Thereafter leave for Nuwara Eliya.
En route Visit a Tea Factory and a Tea Estate.
Overnight stay at the hotel inNuwara Eliya.

DAY 4

NUWARA ELIYA
Breakfast at the hotel
In the evening commence a city Tour of Nuwara EliyaIncluding Gregorys Lake/ Strawberry Farm/ Sita
Amman Temple.
Optional - Visit Hakgala Botanical Garden.
Overnight stay at the hotel inNuwara Eliya.

Nuwara Eliyais a city, in the hill country of the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The city name meaning is "city on the
plain (table land)" or "city of light". The city is the administrative capital of Nuwara Eliya District, with a
picturesque landscape and temperate climate. It is considered to be the most important location for Tea
production in Sri Lanka. The city is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka.
Due to its highland location, Nuwara Eliya has a subtropical highland climate (Kppen climate
classification Cfb) with a mean annual temperature of 16 C (61 F).In the winter months it is quite cold at night,
and there can even be frost. However, it rapidly warms up as the tropical sun climbs higher during the day

DAY 5

NUWARA ELIYA/ BENTOTA 270 km/ 7hrs


After Breakfast You would be driven to Bentota.
En route visit thePinnawala Elephant Orphanage.
Overnight stay at the hotel in Bentota.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanageis an orphanage, nursery and


captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants located at
Pinnawala village, 13 km (8.1 mi) northwest of Kegalle town in
Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala is notable for
having the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. In 2011,
there were 88 elephants, including 37 males and 51 females from
3 generations, living in Pinnawala.The orphanage was originally
founded in order to afford care and protection to many of the
orphaned unweaned wild elephants found wandering in and near
the forests of Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka
Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC).

DAY 6

BENTOTA/ COLOMBO

Have breakfast at the hotel.


Visit a Turtle Hatchery.
Do a boat ride in Madu River.
Thereafter you would be driven to Colombo.
Overnight stay at the hotel in Colombo.

Bentotais a town in Sri Lanka,located on the southern tip of the Galle District of the Southern Province, about 78
kilometres (4.35.0 mi) south of Beruwala on the A2 highway. Its population is estimated to be between 25,00050,000. The name comes from a mythical story which dates back to kings time saying a demon called Bem ruled
this river. Bentota is a tourist attraction, with a local airport (Bentota River Airport) and a handful of world-class
hotels. It is a destination for watersports. Bentota also delivers an ancient art of healing called Ayurveda. Bentota
is famous for its toddy production, an alcoholic beverage made out of coconut nectar.

Madu River - The estuary of the Madu Ganga river is


a complex coastal ecosystem of mangroves and
islands. It may be one of the last remaining tracts
of pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka.A boat trip
is a wonderful way of seeing some of the hundreds
of species of plants and animals monkeys eat fruit in the trees, a water monitor lizard glides slowly through the
water, and cormorants, egrets and kingfishers wait patiently on the banks, eyeing the water for prey.

Turtle Hatchery- The main aim of the project is to monitor local sea turtle activity and conserve the local nesting
sites. We aim to make the public more aware of how endangered these beautiful creatures are and just how
important it is to help protect them before it is too late.The hatchery program is designed to maximize the
number of hatchlings reaching the sea and surviving through the critical stages of their early life.
DAY 07

COLOMBO/ AIRPORT

fter breakfast leave for Colombo.


Commence a city Tour of Colombo & Shopping
Thereafter you would be driven to the airport for the connecting flight.

Colombo is the largest city and the commercial, industrial and cultural capital of Sri Lanka. It is located on the
west coast of the island and adjacent to Sri JayawardenepuraKotte suburb or the parliament capital of Sri Lanka.

Colombo is also the administrative capital of Western Province, Sri Lanka and the district capital of Colombo
District
Colombo is a busy and vibrant place with a mixture of modern life, colonial buildings with a population of about
752,993 in the city limits. It was the political capital of Sri
Lanka, before Sri JayawardenepuraKotte.
