How to Correct ME 76/77 Without Replacing Any Parts For

DCP1000
Problem: The Software receives a false error from the hardware that the thermister has been disconnected,
which will give ME 76/77 on the display screen.
Solutions: A new version D flash ROM was created to help correct the communication between the
software and the thermister. By following the procedure below, this will correct ME 76/77
most of the time without replacing any parts.
Conclusion: If this procedure does not correct this condition, please contact Brother Tech Support M-F

Installing the Flash ROM
System Requirements
CPU: Pentium 75 or higher
Ram: 8 MB or greater (16 MB recommended)
OS: Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 2000

Setup
Make sure the equipments power cord is unplugged from the wall socket.
Make sure your computer is turned off.
Connect the IEEE 1284 parallel cable to the machine.
Connect the other end of the IEEE 1284 to the printer port of your computer.
Power on the computer.
Power on the machine while holding down the 5 key.
On the display screen it will have black boxes on every other LCD segment.
The machine is now ready to be flashed.
Installing the New Firmware into the Facsimile Machine

1. Go to Brothersupport.com and download the flash ROM file onto your hard drive for the product you are
working on.
2. A WinZip file will be downloaded onto your hard drive. Unzip the file and three files will be opened on to
your hard drive.

3. Double click on the file DCP1000 Flash ROM.bat folder.
4. A MSDOS Window will appear on your screen
5. The data will now automatically be sent to the machine.
6. The machine will have intermittent beeps and will make musical tones when finished.
7. The machine will go to date and time.
8. Press menu 0 2864 within 2 seconds, The LCD of the machine should say maintenance and the lights are
flashing. Note: (If this isnt the situation, then press the stop key and try again).
9. Press 01, parameter init is shown on the LCD display screen. Then the LCD display returns to the
maintenance mode screen.
10. To verify the customization code, press 74. DCP1000=0001, then press sort button. Then the LCD
display returns to the maintenance mode screen.
11. Press 11 to verify the new Rom version was loaded. A report is printed out. On the top right third line
down of the configuration list page you will see REV. followed by a numbers and at the end it has the VER.
Make sure the version matches the one you downloaded. Then the LCD display returns to the maintenance
mode screen.
12. Press 99 to exit out of maintenance mode.
