To learn a lile bit more about the DELL D5xx and D6xx baery range, here you nd a few
bits and pieces about its internals. Its a rst aempt with still many question unanswered.
Anyone who likes to comment or make a suggestion, drop a note at the contact section.
One of the questions to be answered by this aempt; Is the voltage to charge the baery
available - unconditionally - once the baery is plugged in? If so, theres a chance to charge
the baery unconditionally.
Reason for this aempt are widespread problems with the charging circuitry in a range of
DELL laptops, covered here:
AC Adapter ID chip failure (hp://www.laptop-junction.com/toast/content/dell-ac-poweradapter-id-chip-died) - DELL charging circuitry and the Maxim DS2501 memory chip
AC Adapter plug soldering (hp://www.laptop-junction.com/toast/content/dell-ac-poweradapter-power-plug) - Soldering inside a DELL DC plug
So lets have a look if theres a possibility to charge a DELL baery in a DELL Laptop when
the ID chip in the AC Adapter is dead.

5 seconds a=er the AC adapter is connected, the laptop switches 9 volts on V+. Why this is 9
volts and not 11 or higher is unknown. During 60 seconds +9 volts stays, the green charge
LED on the laptop switches on - but ashes then turning into the red ashing light
indicating the baery is failing. The DATA line has constant communication going during the
60 seconds - probably its a Maxim 1-wire communication signal . The ON/OFF line
switches ON/OFF as shown - its function remains unknown.
