How to Empower Children in the World: Earth Leaders for Environmental Monitoring
()
About this ebook
This is a guide and manual is for implementing the program Earth Leaders for Environmental Monitoring. Children will be taught to make modules using sensors for environmental monitoring and share the information. All the children participating in this program are considered as Earth Leaders, that is because of the values that they create for the earth. The intention is to facilitate children and empower them to sense the earth. Through this program, the children will be aware of Environment, Climate change, weather, heat island, pollution, sustainability, water use efficiency, and water scheduling, crop per drop etc. They will also learn their subjects such as Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environment, Ecology, and Sociology. Based on the feasibility some of the modules explained in this book could be implemented in each of the villages. Most importantly through this program, as earth leaders children could get connected with larger society and contribute their learnings for the betterment of the earth. The integrity of the children is the highest. The data shared by them will have a larger value and would impact the pedagogy of learning. In the future, they would get involved in schools as makers spaces and would develop many other technologies including Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.

About the Author
Preface
The children are the future custodians of the earth. Children by monitoring their environment and sharing the trends, they are making the older generations be aware and sensitive about the kind of environment that we are living and leaving behind.
This program gives an opportunity to the children to participate in the mission of emissions reduction. The children’s integrity is at the highest.
As it was reported in press that most Indian cities do not have more than one continuous air quality monitoring system (19th Nov. 2018). It means we are least bothered to monitor the quality of air.
The Government is responsible for many things, by monitoring something one need to be more responsible for the consequences. May be this additional responsibility which makes system shy away from monitoring.

Introduction
Through the program Earth Leaders for Environmental Monitoring (ELEM)- children as the "Earth Leaders", will be empowered to know about their immediate environment. The children would be made aware of the environmental factors such as: Air pollution; carbon foot print; heat island effect; water use efficiency; soil moisture; and other factors related to environmental changes.
Through this program, indirectly, they will also contribute to the awareness on environmental challenges to the millions of people.
The purpose of the ELEM program is to:
To educate children on digital literacy and environmental monitoring.
To teach children on making sensor kits for monitoring ambient air pollution such as Particulate Matter (PM2.5 and PM10), Ozone, Carbon Monoxide, Sulphur Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide, temperature and relative humidity, Water levels or depth, water flows, soil moisture, etc.
To make children aware about their immediate environment and learn about adaptation and mitigation practices.
To share on the common web-portal for sharing weather and air quality information collected through this programme for awareness.
Why involve children?
The integrity of the children is highest as compared to the adults. There could be an error in the system, but they will not lie.
Rather children waiting for a day to mainstream their knowledge acquired as part of education system, they could start contributing to the society at an early age. Of course they are the future citizens and have all the right to know what is happening to their environment.
The implementation steps
Identification of the school and with mutual consent and implementation of the project.
One teacher in each school, preferably science teacher would be identified for coordination of this project.
