VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE

Vernacular architecture is a category of architecture

based on local needs, construction, materials, and
reflecting local traditions. It can be contrasted against
polite architecture which is characterized by stylistic
elements of design intentionally incorporated for aesthetic
purposes. Vernacular architecture is passed down from
person to person, generation to generation, particularly
orally, but at any level of society, not just by common
people. It is also influenced by a great range of different
aspects of human behavior and environment, leading to
differing building forms for almost every different context,
even neighboring villages may have subtly different
approaches to the construction and use of their dwellings,
even if they at first appear the same.

THE FALL OF MODERN ARCHITECTURE STYLE

Modern architecture style is the international styles
which has an ideology form follows function. At that
time, the architects wanted to dismiss the ornaments and
in accordance with its functions. The ornaments are not
efficient because they needed to build fast after The World
War II. The materials were also exposed to reflect that the
character of the building is pure.
There were some starchitects of modern architecture
styles:
1. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe: His buildings were made
using modern materials like industrial steel and plate
glass to define interior spaces.

2. Frank Llyod Wright: He believed in designing

structures those were in harmony with humanity and
environment. He called it organic architecture.
3. Le Corbusier: He was influential in urban planning
and providing better living conditions for the
residents of crowded cities.
The modern architectures peak of failure was when
Pruitt-Igoe, St. Louis demolished 15 years after it was
built by it sponsors because of catastrophic failure.

CONSTRUCTION OF TRUSS

Concrete truss is embedded by steel bars and made

from the mixture of sand, cement, and gravel. The
maximum range between each truss is 4 meters. One
of the advantages is it costs cheaper than the wood
truss, while the disadvantages are long time
construction and it has less value of aesthetics.
Conventional Steel Truss is the most used truss in
buildings with weird roof like the meeting room, hall,
and factory. The span between each truss to the other
is 4 to 5 meters long. One of the advantages is it allows
larger shipments and reduces the time taken to build it.
One of the disadvantages of conventional steel truss is
that it needs more skilled labor.
Light Weight Steel Truss has many advantages like it
is environmentally friendly, it has no threat of termites,
it has light weight, it is easier to design, and it lasts
longer. But, it also has some disadvantages like it is
more expensive than wood truss, the workers have

higher risk of electrocution when installing it, and its

not fire resistant.
Wooden Truss has many advantages too, such as: it
gives a cooling effect to the room, it is easy to find, it
looks more beautiful and natural, and it is as powerful
as ironwood. The disadvantages of wooden truss are
certain timber usually eaten by termites, the price is
slightly more expensive than the other trusses, the
climate affects the strength of the woods, and the
woods in the forest will be reduced.
