3.0 BANDAR PUTERI 10

Figure 1. Bandar Puteri 10 Ceiling Light Trough Design

Bandar Puteri 10 was my first project that I received after my internship started. My task was to design a
3D ceiling solution for bedrooms in the ongoing project in Puchong using the Sketchup program. Later on,
the task went on into designing the ceiling of the living room and interior design of the rooms. Bandar
Puteri was considered an appetizer in the many projects that came afterwards.

4.0 ALAM IMPIAN CONDOMINIUM PROJECT PROPOSAL

Figure 2. Block Plan Schematic Design

The Alam Impian Condominium Schematic Design block plan was my first ever multistory residential
design with the help of my mentor, Ar. Ong and my senior colleagues. In this project, we started off the
project by doing a site analysis on the site in Alam Impian, Shah Alam. The project was further developed
by using the previous projects in the company as a reference and guide in space planning. The task given
to me was to design and produce plans for 3 different units with a maximum of 10 units per floor provided

that the safety and fire regulations were met beforehand. With the deadline of two weeks, we were able
to compose a block plan of the condominium with a 3D image and a presentation slide to be proposed to
the client by our principal. The project was tough at first due to our lack of exposure in high rise projects
but we somehow managed to complete the requirements given by the client.

Above are the three different options that I designed with the help of my mentor and senior colleagues.
The most valuable lesson that I learnt from this project was to be very sensitive to the spaces that are
related to the users in any ways. The orientation of the rooms were also a large factor on how they can
affect the value and properties of a unit. A very interesting feature implemented in this project was the
pocket gardens proposed on every 5 floors front and back of the condominium.

5.0 BANDAR UTAMA 11 BUNGALOW
This project required me to draft a plan with some furniture replacements and positioning. Later on, I
was tasked to design a simple balcony garden at the Master Bedroom for a married couple planning for
their future when they enter their seniority age. The previous drawing was done by the previous intern
which then came back with comments by the client for further improvements in the interior layout. This
project was successfully emailed back to the client to be reviewed in their next meeting with my mentor.
Below are the floor plans and 3D view that I redrafted from the previous interns REVIT file.

6.0 Tamil Methodist Women Centre, KL
This project is an existing Methodist Centre in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. The brief of this project was to
renovate and refurbish the old building into a new kindergarten mix women accommodation facility for
future church meetings or events. The task given to me was to draft the existing building from the old plan
given as the old floor plan was drafted since the 1950s. After drafting the old drawing, I was given the next
task to include the renovation plan sketched by my mentor. The software used to for the drawings was
REVIT.

I was also tasked to produce 2 optional 3D interior perspective for the client to review. The software
used was Sketchup. Since this building is mostly dedicated to female users, the theme would be based
on a more feminine color scheme.

7.0 RUMAH UNIVERSITI, UNIVERSITI MALAYA
This project is a renovation project on the existing Student Hostel unit in Universiti Malaya. My task was
to produce an enlarged scale of 1:40 construction drawing for the ongoing renovation project. The
construction drawing was later followed up by my colleagues for further changes.

8.0 METHODIST CHURCH L BUILDING
2 weeks after I completed the renovation plan for the main building of the Methodist Church Centre, I
was given the second task to proceed with the building connecting to the main building through a
walkway. We went to the site to do some site measurement and electrical layout drafting. To my surprise,
the buildings were unexpectedly old since it was built since 1957. We were given the original floor plans
which were literally breaking apart due to the crispiness it became after many years. We managed to
make copies of the original and I was tasked to reproduce the plans of the L building. The next task to
draw the renovations were given to me as the last task in the company.

Figure 16. Site Measurement

The building was old and apparently tearing apart on the partition walls and the toilets. Termites were
biting through the timber components as many holes were seen. However, all the electrical points and
equipment were still working fine.

9.0 Conclusion
This internship program has greatly increased my understanding on how a real company works in a daily
experience from meeting clients to dealing with authorities and on-site visits to office paper work. My
mentor, Ar. Ong has also helped me a lot in improving my sensitivity towards space in real time and
construction drawing ability from the tasks given to us. I would say that HB ONG Architect is a very
generous firm in sharing knowledge in many aspects of an architect. Therefore, I ended my Internship
Program on the 4th of March 2016.
