PRE-PHASE

I would like to express our greatest appreciation to all the people who have help one
way or another in the report of Construction Survey in Engineering Surveying 3 subject.
First of all, I would like to thank our lecturer Sir Mohd Zahirudin Bin Mohammed
Naaim for the contribution either directly or indirectly to complete this report such as lecture
and practical on site even out of time earnestly. For sure without them I cant finish our report
base on instruments application and measurement completely. Actually, we are facing for
new experience that we were not imagined before.
A special thanks to the Geomatic lab assistant Mr Jamil because without him, I cant
get permission to takeout construction survey equipment to our survey site.
I confident this report will be a valuables resource for the upcoming students to
archive more knowledge about construction survey work. To all the group members,
congratulation and thank you for a job well done.

1.0 INTRODUCTION OF CONSTRUCTION SURVEY

Setting out is the process of transferring the distance from the plan which was already prepared
to the ground before the beginning of construction. The plan was designed and prepared to give a
correct position of setting-out on the ground. Setting out also means the provision of marks, levels,
profiles and other information which will enable other members of the construction team to carry
out their works, so that the result is a true interpretation of the contract documents in the terms of
position, size, shape and level. It involves marks and control for any form of new construction,
including excavation, filling, tunneling, building, bridging and marine works.
The surveyor must ensure that the structure is located in the correct position in accordance with
the plan. The structure must be corrected in all the dimensions both relatively and absolutely. It
must be of the correct size, positioned correctly and at the correct level. The important that we must
to know is the skill in a successful execution of setting out job. The skill required is in angular and
linear measurement, ability to solve ordinary or simple mathematic problems, ability to read and
understanding drawings and ability to provide independent checking for the jobs

Display and calculate coordinate data .

1.3 OBJECTIVE OF SETTING OUT BUILDING

To understand the concept of setting-out survey


To setup a simple setting out of point on the ground
Carry out accurate setting out.
Carry out all the necessary calculations to establish the setting-out points.
Work as a team in order to execute a large scale surveying work.
Produce and present an engineering report on an engineering survey work.

First at all, calculate assume coordinate like diagram 1.4.


Using 4 control point and 15 pegs total in site
Next step is key in all coordinate in total station
Open total station and press menu then select memory manager

Adjust Total Station until bearing is 0 degree and press distance

Shoot total station at prism, and measure distance until the distance is 0

INSERT COORDINATE IN TOTAL STATION


1) Open memory manager and take coordinate input

2) Select file and press enter

3) Select NEZ

4) Type point number and press enter

5) Insert northing, easting and height coordinate station and press enter

6) Then, repeat all step for another point

1.5 ANALYSIS

Using assume coordinate starting point 1000N, 1000E, calculate all control point.
At east of first point, add 2 metre, and then add 8 metre to get another control for east
coordinate (like diagram above)
At west of first point, let it be because northing is not changed.
So, another control point coordinate is 1000N,1010E
Repeat all step to get another control point and all pegs(1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15)

1.7 CONCLUSION OF THIS FIELDWORK


For conclusion, I found that setting out is important in civil engineering work. Setting out is
add on from construction survey because with this method, I can found any opened space by looking
at the construction plan. After the setting out is finish, I can determine the point and the area for the
purposed structure. After all the works finish, I can learn the setting out process and how to get the
bearing, distance, and coordinate as in objective and we can apply it in the future work
