1 MANAGEMENT OVERVIEW
Having examined the data sheets applicable to the oil in water analyzers, Advanced Sensors
propose the use of its EX-100 / 1000 model. This unit is a side stream analyzer that uses
fluorescence measurement for the oil in water ppm.
Where provision of the units in the format of in-line probes is deemed essential, then this can
be accommodated using the in-line probe version of our analyzers.
Advanced Sensors has chosen this solution as fluorescence is the best measurement
technique for Oil in Water PPM calculation.
1.1
The Side Stream analyzers (EX-100/1000) are very suited to end of process monitoring that is,
measurement of produced water immediately prior to discharge or re-injection. The side stream
analyzers take a feed from a main source and provide a continuous ppm value (using
fluorescence). The output of the analyzer can be back in to the process or to a drain.
EX-100 / 1000 has the following benefits:
1) There is NO regular maintenance required and
2) In addition to the continuous on-line readings, samples can be taken periodically by closing the
valve, homogenising the sample (using the ultrasonics) and taking a highly accurate uniform
reading. This is an automatic process configured to meet the customers requirements.

Laser induced fluorescence is the most accurate way to provide on-line oil in water PPM
measurement, as it uses a set narrow excitation wavelength which is highly effective in providing
strong fluorescence.
The digital camera and optics used for the microscopy technique are also housed behind the
sapphire window, ensuring that they remain clean and provide accurate results.
Pressure Tolerant
The EX100 / EX1000 are designed to be flow and pressure tolerant.
The large pipe work on the EX100 and EX1000 is not susceptible to slugging or clogging and the
measure chamber is automatically cleaned ultrasonically.

Data Logging
The operating system is built on the globally recognized Windows operating system, offering a
familiar environment for fast and easy access. The EX100/1000 captures and stores all
measurement every second and can store greater than 10 years of logs. They are stored daily as
Microsoft Excels files. The data logs contain configuration information, measurement of oil
content and temperature.
Easy Installation
The side-stream EX100/1000 has been designed for ease of installation. The unit is delivered
complete, mounted on a stand (316L stainless) fitted with a flow valve and ready to go.
Take any of the analyzers out of their delivery container, wire the mains power, plumb and turn
on, the analyzers will measure immediately. The EX100/1000 are EX d rated and do not require
purged air.
challenge, use a manual interface that will ask the operator to select the oil type that you wish to
measure, this is nearly an impossible task, as they cannot supply the tools to identify which oil is
currently present in the water.
The EX1000 has an inbuilt spectrometer that takes the optical fingerprint of the oil. Should the oil
type change, the analyzer will automatically detect the change and select the appropriate
calibration file to provide consistently accurate measurement. This feature is unique to Advanced
Sensors analyzers.
The Spectrometer logs can be examined should an anomaly occur. By examining the spectra
logs before, during and after an anomaly, the nature and cause of the anomaly can be
determined.
The online spectrometer can also be used to detect changes in produced water composition,
which is useful in selecting process chemical and optimizing the chemical dosage.
