TREKK: Communications Coordinator

0.5FTE
Anticipated salary range: $45,000 - $50,000 (pro-rata)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Communications Coordinator plans, develops, coordinates, and implements
both external and internal communications relating to the Translating Emergency
Knowledge for Kids (TREKK) Knowledge Mobilization Network and its members. This
includes partner and media relations, newsletters, website, and promotional print
materials. The Communications Coordinator will be based at the Childrens Hospital
Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM) and report directly to the TREKK Network
Manager, but will liaise closely with the CHRIM Communications Specialist and in
order to provide a unified and efficient communications strategy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may
be assigned.

Works with TREKK Management to develop/update the Networks


communications strategy and plans
Creates and executes communications strategies for specific events,
programs, and projects
Creates and develop high quality graphic design work such as posters,
booklets, brochures and video presentations for promotional and educational
purposes.
Creates press releases, facilitates interviews, organizes press conferences
and liaises with media on both a regular, ad hoc, and event specific basis
(liaising with the communications team at CHRIM, the Networks of Centres of
Excellence and other funders/partner organizations as needed)
Plan and write stories, and assist in the development of key messages
Create, monitor and update TREKK social media sites (website, Twitter,
Facebook, Youtube, etc) on a regular basis.
Develops story concepts, researches, writes and edits newsletters. Manages
production, printing and distribution.
Writes material for website and uses program software to complete edits and
enhancements to ensure website is kept current, engaging and accurate
Coordinates external inquiries related to TREKK material and events
Assists with multi-media production of presentations
Attends and photographs events as necessary
Develops relationships with TREKK members, child health researchers and
partner organizations

Education and/or Experience:

The successful job applicant will have completed a two year program
specializing in communications, public relations or marketing at a recognized
post-secondary institute. Note: An alternative level of education and
experience may be acceptable.
Minimum 2 years directly related experience, preferably in a not-for-profit,
research environment and/or health care setting
Experience in leading communication initiatives, acting with integrity and
trust
Media interview skills, including key message development.
Planning and executing a successful social media campaign.
Graphic design skills preferably with Adobe products (InDesign, Illustrator,
Photoshop) please provide an electronic portfolio of samples of your work
with your application.
Excellent telephone skills and etiquette.
Knowledge of public relations principles and practices.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
High standard of integrity, judgment and confidentiality.
Proficient knowledge of MS Office computer programs
Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment,
communicating clearly in a fast-paced environment essential.
Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with
staff at all levels within the organization.
Hours may include evenings and weekends
