Resumen.
La siguiente investigacin consta dela realizacin de balances
completos de materia y energa para una torre de destilacin de
3 componentes y 5 etapas. Este balance se realiza por medio de
las ecuaciones MESH para obtener las temperaturas de las
etapas y del condensado, as como la composicin dentro de la
columna, haciendo uso de Polymath 6.10 por medio del sistema
de Ecuaciones No Lineales y de Mathlab por medio de los
mtodos NLEQ y FSOLVER.
Introduccin
Hasta 1950, los clculos correspondientes a los problemas de rectificacin de
torres de destilacin, tenan que realizarse a mano. Aunque se dispona de
mtodos rigurosos, eran difciles de aplicar.
Para el diseo final del equipo de etapa mltiple se requiere una
determinacin rigurosa de la temperatura, la presin, los caudales y
composiciones de las corrientes y las velocidades de transferencia de calor
para cada etapa. Dada la elevada no linealidad de las ecuaciones que
describen el proceso, es necesario resolver el problema general por el uso de
procedimientos iterativos y los diversos mtodos difieren en la seleccin del
conjunto de variables independientes.
Los primeros intentos para la resolucin de este problema era por medio de
sistema de ecuaciones formado por los balances de materia, las relaciones
de equilibrio, los sumatorios de fracciones molares y los balances de entalpa
estos balances son conocidos como ecuaciones MESH.
Las ecuaciones MESH (M = balance de materia, E = equilibrio, S = sumatorio
de fracciones molares o msicas y H = balance de entalpa) se describen a
continuacin.

Metodologa
Se consider una columna de destilacin simple con 5 etapas para separar
Propano (1). n-Butano (2), y i-Butano (3). La corriente de alimentacin se
consider como Z1=0.10, Z2=0.70, Z3=0.20 respectivamente. La cantidad de
calor aportado al caldern es de 9183 BTU/h El destilado se extrae a una
velocidad de 0.36 lbmol/h y el producto del fondo de la columna a
0.64lbmol/h.
Primero se desarrollaron las ecuaciones MESH para el balance moles por
componente y el balance de entalpias.
En el apndice B del libro Fundamentals of Multicomponent Distillation
de Charles D. Holland se encuentran las constante de equilibrio para los
componentes y tambin para el clculo de la entalpia liquidas y de vapor.
Resultados
Los resultados obtenidos por los 2 programas con los mtodos diferentes
Ecuaciones No Lineales, NLEQ, FSolve fueron recopilados en la siguientes
tablas.

Conclusiones
Como podemos ver en las tablas de resultados los valores obtenidos por los
5 diferentes mtodos resultaron exactamente iguales, as que podemos
asegurar que cualquiera de estas tcnicas son lo suficientemente precisas
para reportar los datos obtenidos de las temperaturas y composiciones de
cada etapa.
