H. NEW FEATURES

A. IMPORTANT NOTICES
Note 1
The Installation Wizard will automatically detect which database server is installed. If you are
running a version of FireBird prior to v1.5, you have to uninstall it before installing the software.
The software will automatically run the FireBird v1.5 installer. During the installation you will be
presented with a page prompting you to "Select Additional Tasks". Ensure that you have the
following options selected before continuing:
Use Guardian Option
(Checked by default)
Run As Service
(Checked by default)

Start FireBird Automatically every time you boot up

(Checked by default)
Copy FireBird client library to <system> directory
(This option is unchecked by default, check it to ensure that IBConsole can connect to the new
server)
Generate client library as GDS32.DLL for legacy app. support
(Checked by default)
Install Control Panel Applet
(Checked by default)
Note 2:
If you are upgrading from a version of software older than v6.0, you will need to perform a data
pump to a new database. The Pump utility will assist you in this task. You can determine your
database encoding by looking at the ACCESS_TIME_PATTERN table in IBConsole. The
SITE_SLA column will indicate the encoding of the database e.g. UNICODE_FSS.

(***ONLY IF YOU HAVE AN OLD DATABASE, E.G. pre V6.0 ***)

In order to perform a Pump/Archive/Convert, you current database must be upgraded with the
latest scripts. The new databases distributed with this release will not allow duplicate Employee
Numbers or duplicate ID Numbers. If your database does contain duplicate values, you may
use the new utility "FindDuplicates" to identify these duplicates and either change them or delete
the tagholder completely.
You may install this utility as part of the Engine or Utils installation.
Note 3:
The Engine can be configured to exit automatically when uploading and polling are completed.
This can be done by using an additional command line parameter 'exit'. This command line
parameter has two forms:
exit
or
exit=nnn.
The first form will exit after 3 uploader passes and when there are no more transactions. The
second form works the same as the first form, except that nnn is the maximum time in minutes
that the engine is allowed to run, after which it must terminate. Extra shortcuts to run the Engine
with the Auto Exit parameter have been provided with this release. We provide a default shortcut
with a maximum time of 60 Minutes. You may change this value in the following file:
{Installed Directory}\Bin\EngineAutoExitTime.lax
Look for the parameter "exit=60" and change the 60 to a value in minutes.

This feature may be used with the Auto Start feature to completely
batch-schedule the Engine's operations using a scheduler eg. Windows
Scheduler.

B. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
You will require at least 400MB of free disk space on your system drive to install the software. You
should allow more free disk space on the disk where your database resides.
On Windows operating systems, you will have to be logged on with Administrator privileges
on the machine.

C. STARTING UP A SITE
The default user name and password for logging onto the system are:
User name: SYSDBA
Password: masterkey (case sensitive)
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

7.

After installation, run Ethernet Discovery Utility in order to discover all the IP
enabled Controllers and Terminals.
Export these devices.
Run the Engine and import the devices that were found in step 1.
Start an AUTOID of the hardware. This can be done by clicking the AUTOID
button on the Engine window.
Once the autoid has completed, it will automatically stop the Engine and the
START buttons will be enabled again.
Once the Controllers and Terminals have been detected by the Engine and been
given Logical Addresses, switch back to the Access Application and click on the
new host in the tree. Press F5 to refresh. Drag and drop terminals into
appropriate locations and zones.
Do a full upload by clicking on the Full Upload button on the Engine window after
some tags and tagholder access groups have been set up.

D. DATABASE CONFIGURATION
This section describes the manual editing of the Access and Engine properties files. Normally the
settings that need to be changed can be edited using the Properties Editor that is built into the
software.
The properties files store configuration information regarding Database, Serial Port and other
settings. A default file is provided which may be edited with a Text Editor such as Notepad or
Wordpad. Comment lines are preceded by a # character.
Database Settings:
Change the URL to specify where the database is located. If the Engine and the database are
installed on the same machine, set:
engine.database.Interbase.URL = jdbc:firebirdsql:localhost/C:/... path to database

access.database.Interbase.URL = jdbc:firebirdsql://localhost/C:/...path to database

If the database is on a separate machine, enter the name of the machine in place of localhost.
This name can be obtained from Windows Settings / Control Panel / Network. The Computer
Name is displayed on the Identification tab.

F. UPDATING AN EXISTING DATABASE

An utility has been included to update your database with support for certain new features. This
utility will be installed when you selected "Utilities" during the installation. A "Scripts" folder will be
copied into you installation folder.
Before you can use this utility, you must ensure that the database has been manually
upgraded to the following versions:
Standard
Card
Graphics

V5.02
V1.04
V1.01

The "Scripts folder contains a Scripts_Readme.wri file that describes the process of
upgrading to these versions.
The DBUpgrade utility may be run from your installation folder. The DBUpgrade utility will
determine your the status of your database and automatically apply all the necessary scripts to
your database. FireBird databases should be backed up and restored after the update.

G. KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THIS RELEASE

The following problems are known to exist within this release of the software.
Translations
(a) When a Panel or Frame or Dialog has been translated, it is necessary to shut-down the
application and restart it in order to see the newly translated text.
WebReports
The Zone Occupancy web reports will only show persons who have entered the zone in the last
24 hours. People who entered before the last 24 hours will not be shown.
Zone Occupancy reports only show transactions on terminals belonging to the Zone. So if they
are interleading Zones, and access into the Zone was through a terminal not belonging to the
Zone, then this access will not be reflected in the Zone Occupancy reports for that Zone. If Zone
Occupancy reports are important for a Zone, then all the terminals which allow access into/out
that Zone must belong to that Zone. This applies to the Common Zone Occupancy reports as
well.
The Hours Worked in APB Zones report requires that the APB Zones be strict APB Zones. It
computes hours only for access into strict APB Zones. Also, it assumes that the person can only
be in one Zone at a time (nested Zones should not be strict APB Zones).
Biometrics
Sagem biometric enrolment (including enrollment with matching capabilities) is now supported on
any version of Windows Vista/Windows 7. A reboot may be required on some machines to get all
the features to work correctly.
Engine
The "Relax APB Level 1/2 when Controllers go offline" feature is only applicable to AC controllers
that are communicated to via a host interface type device.
Web Enrollment
Normally, when when you add a Slim tag, click on save and then change the tag type to ASCII
without first closing the tag detail window, the ASCII tag will be saved as a second tag. Currently,
if you change the tag type from Slim to ASCII after first closing the tag details dialog, the ASCII
tag will replace the Slim tag instead of being created as a second tag.
