One Malaysia carries a meaning from the aspect of the government’s


commitment that each ethnic group should receive assistance and
protection from the government so that the country emerges as one
that practises the principle of social justice

2. Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak , Prime Minister 3rd April 2009 unveiled a
new concept- One Malaysia - as a guiding principle to build a united
and progressive Malaysian nation in 21st century. The two paramount
cardinal principles underlie in One Malaysia concept is to inculcate the
sprit and values of togetherness and a sense of belonging among
Malaysians, regardless of race ,religion and creed.

3. Just what exactly is the meaning and definition of the “1 Malaysia”


concept that our dearly beloved Prime Minister has been promoting
since his elevation to office? According to his answer in Parliament to
14 MPs from across party lines, it’s not a new concept. In fact, he
states that it’s the goal of national unity envisioned by past prime
ministers of this nation with a different approach and method according
to the current condition of the world. The Prime Minister also states, on
record, that the 1 Malaysia concept is the guideline on how to achieve
“bangsa Malaysia”, which translates into English as a “Malaysian race”

4. According to DAP’s website, one of its objectives is to establish a social


democratic government based on “a Malaysian Malaysia concept by
forging Malaysian race with universal moral values”.

5. Our Prime Minister also states that the primary aspect of the One
Malaysia concept has three core elements. These are:
• Mutual acceptance amongst the races and peoples of Malaysia
• Nationalism based on principles of the Federal Constitution and the
Rukunegara
• Social justice
“One Malaysia, People First, Performance Now” is quite an all-encompassing
concept.

8. a specially choreographed group workout called the ‘Malaysian cultural workout’. The workout,
which lasted for 30 minutes, was a combination of traditional dances from all major ethnic groups in
the country. The crowd, largely made up of civil servants, was also entertained by six songs on 1
Malaysia, one of which will be chosen by the ministry to be the official theme for 1 Malaysia.

9. The 1 Malaysia theme song is expected to be played regularly on all government television and
radio stations.

10. Najib has said that 1 Malaysia does not deviate from the Federal Constitution, which provides for
the special position of Malays and other bumiputeras, without providing details of how his
administration plans to address race relations.
