PROJECT –Lufthansa Cargo E-booking Release 3 (From Dec' 00- May)

Client: Lufthansa Airlines, Germany

2
Environment: H/W: PC O/S: Windows NT, Unix. Language: C++. Technology: CORBA,
XMLTools: Araxis Merge, Rough wave, Xerces DOM

Lufthansa AG is one of the leading commercial passenger airlines in Europe and a provider of
logistics services in the global airfreight market. ‘EBooking’ project is an enterprise wide initiative of
Lufthansa Cargo to develop 'Automated Order Acceptance System for Airfreight in order to answer
the bulk of booking requests without human intervention. The Enterprise Wide Architecture is based
on multi-tiered heterogeneous systems, with browser/web based front-end applications and a middle-
ware technology to communicate and interface with the existing legacy back-end applications. The
implementation uses the OO Analysis/Design, industry standard protocols and CORBA. ‘eBooking’
uses MOSAIK, a Unisys mainframe system based cargo application, as its back-end along with
ORACLE database and other enterprise applications to support the cargo functional processes. The
Booking Engine interfaces and integrates with these existing systems and applications through the
WLE, eLink and TUXEDO services to provide the automated booking process over different
channels. WLS is used as web server.

Release3 is a further enhancement of the booking engine, which incorporates pricing in its
functionality and logically derives at the best routes. This involves developing and integrating the
pricing functionality to the booking engine.

Role: Team member, involved in developing a module called Stubs Servers and Simulators and also
in performing component testing. The job included development of the server for the all the modules
in the project. During development, used C++ language and technologies like CORBA and XML.
CORBA was used as the middleware and compiling was done in Unix. Now presently working in a
team of developers responsible for packing and unpacking data for the external interfaces.
