Inconel 718 can be easily machined by considering its high strength and
hardening characteristics while selecting and using the tools, process rate
and coolant. The machining process in the age hardening makes the alloy
better. The use of annealed wire offers supreme machining and prolongs
apparatus performance.
The high strength of Inconel alloy 718 makes it extremely resistant to
deformation as compare to other materials during the heat treatment. The
heat processing is performed at temperatures from 1650oF to 2050oF. In
the final processing, alloy 718 is treated symmetrically by gradually
decreasing temperature and light at the temperature limit among 1650oF
1750oF. This technique is significant to offer the ductility in the stress
cracking procedures on annealing and aging the alloy. While heating the
alloy 718 wire for hot processing, it is heated at temperature limit for a
small duration to ensure its symmetry.
The use of high pressure cooling and lubrication fluid to the tool-chip
interface reduces cutting force considering the mechanical influence of
high pressure coolant. Use of high pressure cooling increases and offers
required chip breakability that improves the quality of the machined layer
of metal specimen. The wear of cutting tool significantly decreases by
applying large pressure coolant to the tool-chip interface. It can be
featured to the fact that high pressure coolant provides better lubrication
and quenching rather the conventional cooling material.
The high-pressure coolant also increases the life of cutting tool and
reduces the cutting forces to offer greater productivity.
