Bydefault,IntelHD4000integratedgraphicsarenotsupportedbyMacOSX.Youcannotchangethescreenresolutionon
aHackintoshthatusesHD4000,andthere'snographicsacceleration.However,intherecentMacbookProsoftware
update,AppleincludedgraphicsdriversthataddedsupportforIntelHD4000.Thoughnobodywasinitiallyabletogetthese
driverstoworkwithHackintoshes,thishasfinallychanged.
NOTE:ChimeranowofficiallysupportsHD4000,makingthismethodoutdated.Checkouttheupdatedversionof
ourguideinstead.

Requirements
ThefollowingmethodworksforMacOSXLion10.7.5andOSXMountainLion10.8.
Ifyou'reusinganolderversionofLion,youcaninstalltonymacx86'sBridgeHelper
5.0togetthesameresult.MacOSXSnowLeopardisn'tsupported,sincetheIvy
Bridgeprocessorsdon'tworkwithit.

IntelHD4000graphicsareincludedinafewofIntel'snewest3ndgeneration
processors,whichareknownas"IvyBridge"processors.

ManyIvyBridgeprocessorsonlyuselowerendHD2500graphics,whichdon'twork
withthemethodinthisguide.IfyouwanttofindoutwhetheryourIntelprocessorusesHD2500or4000,youcanGoogle
themodelofyourprocessor.Forexample,ifIsearch"i53570K"onGoogle,thefirstresultisIntel'sofficialpageforthe
IntelCorei53570K.Accordingtothe"GraphicsSpecifications"sectionofthatpage,thei53570Kprocessoruses"Intel
HDGraphics4000",whichwillwork.

Hackintoshreliesonabootloader(suchasChameleonorChimera)toinjectthedeviceIDofitsgraphicscardintoMacOS
X,inordertoenablegraphicssupport.Otherwise,MacOSXhasnoideawhatgraphicscardtheHackintoshusing.
However,thecurrentversionsofChameleonandChimeradon'tincludethedeviceIDsforIntelHD4000yet.Forthis
tutorial,downloadandinstallapatchedversioninsteaddownloadlinksbelow.

AsMr.Wongexplainsonhisblog,thereare11deviceIDs(knownasAAPL,igplatformiddeviceproperties)thatMacOSX
usestoidentifyagraphicscardasIntelHD4000.InordertoenablegraphicsupportforHD4000,youneedtohave
ChimeraorChameleoninjectoneofthesedeviceIDsintoMacOSX.BelowisachartofallavailabledeviceIDs.

EachdeviceIDhelpsMacOSXrecognizeyourHD4000graphicsinaslightlydifferentway.Thenumberof"Ports"isthe
numberofinputports(suchasDVI,HDMI,etc.)thatwillworkwitheachdeviceID.Youprobablywanttochoosea
configurationthatworkswithatleast3ports.The"Memory"columnrepresentshowmuchinternalgraphicsmemoryyou
shouldsetinyourBIOS,forthatparticulardeviceID(moredetailsaboutthatinStep3).

The"0"standsfor01660000,thefirstdeviceID.IfyouwanttousedeviceID01660001instead,replace"0"with"1".And
soon.

3.AdjustyourBIOS
YouneedtochangetheamountofinternalgraphicsmemoryusedbyMacOSXtowhateverthedeviceIDspecifies.You
candothisinyourcomputer'sBIOS(whichisessentiallythesettingspageforyourmotherboard).Bootyourcomputer,and
entertheBIOS.ToentertheBIOSonaGigabytemotherboard,youhavetopressthedeletekeywhenitboots(beforethe
operatingsystemstarts).DifferentmanufacturerssetdifferentkeysforopeningtheBIOS.
ThespecificnamefortheBIOSsettingthatdeterminesinternalgraphicsmemorysizedependsonthebrandofyour
motherboard.OnGigabytemotherboards,thissettingisliterallycalled"InternalGraphicsMemorySize".

Besuretoadjustthesettingfor"InternalGraphicsMemorySize",not"DVMTTotalMemorySize"(asMacOSXignores
thissetting).
Saythatyou'reusingdeviceID01660000.AccordingtochartinStep3,thatdeviceIDrequires96MBofmemory.Inthat
case,set"InternalGraphicsMemorySize"to96MBinyourBIOS.ThenpressF10tosaveyourchangesandleavethe
BIOS.

4.Testitout
RebootyourHackintosh.Onceyou'vebootedinMacOSX,checkwhetheryoucanchangethescreenresolution,etc.If
not,thenyou'llhavetotryadifferentdeviceID.RepeatStep2and3.Hopefully,you'lleventuallyfindadeviceIDthat
worksforyourHackintosh.
