Rahu The immortal One, the very cause of our birth.

Whenever in vedic astrology we hear of rahu and ketu , we are
frightened and our heart and mind is filled with fear . Before going
into the facts relating to vedic astrology lets have an introduction
about rahu ketu in mythology and astronomy.
Rahu in Hindu Mythology :Rahu is the severed head of an asura called Svarbhnu, that
swallows the sun causing eclipses. He is depicted as a serpent with
no body , riding a chariot drawn by eight black horses. Rahu is one
of the navagraha (nine planets) in Vedic astrology and is paired with
Ketu.
According to legend, during the Samudra manthan, the asura
Svarbhnu drank some of the amrita. The Sun and the Moon
realized it and alerted Mohini, the female avatar of Vishnu. Mohini
cut off Svarbhnu's head before the nectar could pass his throat.
The head, however, remained immortal due to the effect of amrita
and became Rahu.
It is believed that this immortal head from time to time, swallows
the Sun, causing eclipses. Then, the sun passes through the opening
at the neck, ending the eclipse. The body also turned into ketu due
to a boon, and it in turn, swallows the Moon on timely basis to cause
a lunar eclipse.
Rahu Ketu in Astronomy :Rahu and Ketu denote the points of intersection of the paths of the
Sun and the Moon as they move on the celestial sphere. Rahu and
Ketu are respectively called the north and the south lunar nodes.
The fact that eclipses occur when the Sun and the Moon are at one
of these points gives rise to the myth of the swallowing of the Sun
and the Moon by the demon snake.
Rahu Ketu in Vedic Astrology :Do you know that Rahu is the very cause of our birth ? Yes its true
that Rahu, a karmic planet is the cause of our birth because it show
the necessity and urge to work on a specific area of life where there
had been ignorance or paucity in the past life. To balance the
apparent dissatisfaction of past life one has to go that extra mile to

provide a satisfactory settlement in the present lifetime. When rahu

is afflicted this "extra mile" is lengthened .
On the other hand Ketu is the exit point from this birth . It indicates
the area / areas where unnecessary over-indulgence / mastered in
the past life . To balance the over-satisfaction / Mastery in the past
life there has to be some kind of dissatisfaction in that specific area
in this current life.
So when you complete the lesson learnt from Rahu in this current
life , ketu will store and absorb that lesson and makes you exit from
this life.
This process goes on and on till you had learned all the lessons and
you are finally exited from the process of birth and rebirth.
Rahu is a tamas asura . Various names are assigned to Rahu like the
chief advisor of the demons, the minister of the demons, everangry, the tormentor, bitter enemy of the luminaries, lord of
illusions, the one who frightens the Sun, the one who makes the
Moon lusterless, the peace breaker, the immortal, bestower of
prosperity and wealth, and ultimate knowledge.
Rahu is associated with the world of material manifestation and
worldly desire, as well as random, uncontrolled growth without
wisdom or understanding.
When afflicted in birth chart this dissatisfaction is imposed
forcefully on the soul . Rahu does his best to plunge any area of life
he controls into chaos, mystery, and cruelty. Rahu is a legendary
master of deception who signifies cheaters, pleasure seekers,
operators in foreign lands, drug dealers, poison dealers, insincere
and immoral acts. Rahu is the symbol of an irreligious person, an
outcast, harsh speech, falsehoods, uncleanliness, body ulcers,
bones, and transmigration. Sudden changes in luck and fame are
also linked to Rahu. Rahu is considered instrumental in
strengthening one's power and converting, even an enemy into a
friend. Rahu has illusory nature.
Different systems of astrology assign Rahu different signs regarding
rulership, exaltation, and debilitation , but Rahu and Ketu are

neither exalted nor debilitated by their mere presence in a sign but

they are identically conditioned as per their hosts or dispositors.
Goddess Durga / Mansa Devi is the deity of Rahu .
In numerology rahu is represented by number 4.
Rahu is lord of three nakshatras / lunar mansions : Ardra , Swati
and Shatabhisha.
Rahu is associated with smoky color, lead metal, and its gemstone is
honey-colored hessonite. Its element is air and its direction is
southwest. So all the West world is represented by Rahu.
Rahu Ketu both move anticlockwise in vedic chart BUT interestingly
they follow the clock of KAALA the clockwise movement we daily
follow.
The needle of clock moves from left to right , in the same way Rahu
Ketu moves from 1st house to 12th house , whereas other planets
move right to left in vedic horoscope.
Rahu and Ketu are always 180 Degree apart or 7 houses away from
each other.
As it has been said that rahu is the cause of our birth , rahu always
absorbs the energy of house , rashi and the planets it sits with and
discharges it with magnification .
On the other hand Ketu also absorbs the energy of house , rashi
and the planets it sits with but it do not discharges it but absorbs it
as this lesson ( The house , rashi , co sitting planets ) is already
learn in past life .
As rahu is our highest form of our desire so its like Mars as mars
represents our desires. You can see that its yantra is higher version
36 , that is of mars .

Although Rahu is said to akin Saturn , but its basic attribute that is
high desire is represented by mars. In lal Kitab Saturn plus Mars is
Rahu.
Rahu is friendly with Venus the guru of demons ,Saturn the hard
worker on this earth and Mercury the worldly intellect and enemy
of Sun our Atma , Moon our mind , Jupiter of pure Intellect and Mars
our Pure desire and courage.
In this kali yuga Rahu is almost auspicious in each and every house
in respect to material world whereas Ketu is almost in auspicious in
each and every house in respect to material world.
What Rahu will give only depends upon its dispositor , the rashi and
co sitting planets.
So friends please no to be afraid of Rahu in this materialistic and
Eworld . He is your best friend in this kaliyuga unless and until you
thought differently.

and be fearful of him.
