The dust capacities amount to 54,9 g (Baldwin) and 51,8 g (Atlas Copco).
In conclusion the contaminant holding capacity of the Atlas Copco 1613 6105 00 and the
Baldwin B262 are nearly equal.
The higher the cumulative efficiency of an oil filter is, the longer the filter can perform.
And the longer the filter lasts, the more running hours the compressor can run without a
filter change.

The separation of smaller particles is explicitly worse at the Baldwin filter. For larger
particles (>30m) it converges to the Atlas Copco filter.
Higher separation efficiency results in cleaner oil because the filter media stops more and
smaller contaminants from passing through.
Atlas Copco offers Higher Separation Efficiency.

3 Differential pressure
In order to ensure an adequate lubrication, it is customary for the filter to be designed to
pass its full rated flow with no more than a specified differential pressure. The tests
specified in ISO 4548 measure the differential pressure across a complete filter assembly,
in a clean condition, over the whole range of oil flow rates. Tests are specified with oils at
two viscosities, one to assess the performance of a filter with cold oil and the other to
assess its performance with oil at a typical operating temperature.

Because of the design of the base plate and hole pattern, the Atlas Copco filter has a
significantly lower differential pressure at lower oil temperatures than the Baldwin filter.

Baldwin B262
Atlas Copco oil filters ensure adequate supply of oil at cold start conditions.

4 Bypass valve
The purpose of the by-pass valve of an oil filter is to maintain an adequate supply of oil to
the compressor element when the differential pressure across the filter element is high,
even if the oil is not filtered then. Such conditions may occur, for example, when the
compressor is started from cold or in the event of the filter element becoming clogged.
To limit the quantity of unfiltered oil passed to the compressor element, when there is no
excessive differential pressure across the filter, it is customary for the by-pass valve to be
designed not to open below a specified differential pressure.
The opening pressures of the bypass valve are 2,5 bar for the Atlas Copco filter and 2,0 to
3,0 bar for the Baldwin filter. This means that the bypass valve of the Baldwin filter opens
too early at lower differential pressures. Therefore oil filtration might be insufficient at
cold start conditions or when the filter surface becomes more and more clogged. Then a
permanent oil leakage can occur.
Atlas Copco oil filters ensure sufficient oil filtration and adequate supply of oil at all
operation conditions.

5 Mechanical construction
The two oil filters have nearly the same diameter, lengths and filter surfaces.
The filter medium of the Atlas Copco filter has a significantly higher stability of the bellow
than the Baldwin B262 (5,0 bar vs. 1,8 bar).
