Amidst globalization and technological changes,

how are we dealing with the cultural heritage? Did

we choose to flow with the changes and leave
behind us the past things in our life? These are the
questions that challenge us to answer. And after
watching the video of the International Conference
on Cultural Heritage Preservation, I believe that
some people have chosen to flow with globalization
and technological changes, and brought with them
their cultural heritage.

Roko Zarnic, one of the members of EU-CHIC

project, expressed the importance of scientific
results regarding knowledge on cultural heritage
monitoring, protection, diagnostics, and protection.
Without the proper knowledge, it would be hard to
go on with the next step such as the design and
planning. He also stated that the organization
needs to develop an integrated system to support
policies that are compatible. Which lead him and
his members to organize and make the EU-CHIC
project. The project provides information and
guidelines about the cultural heritage, and for
future development.

One of the relevant achievement of EU-CHIC

project is the information and knowledge shared
among the different experts. The project allows
researchers, managers, engineers, socialists, and
architects to share ideas on the cultural heritage. It
also generates a common policy to a country.
Conservation covers all the aspect of life. So, the
EU-CHIC project is a very useful system for Rand
Eppich in his line of work. He is an architect, and
his job requires him to work with the historical
background and record of a site and structure,
policies connected to the construction and much
more. With the use of the system, it is now easy to
find information from different experts of the world.

The project has three end users. The people who

work on cultural heritage conservation such as
architects, engineers and site managers, the
people who work for academic purposes are the
researchers and the government implements and
leads the work. Clearly, the project has helped
Europe in preserving their cultural heritage. The
experts in their area have used technology in a
good way to preserve the cultural heritage and to
provide sustainability in every structure.
Technology has made a way to provide easy access

to information, and the answer to the conservation

of cultural heritage is infinite with the use of
technology.

The EU-CHIC project is a simple project that was

made by different experts. They have worked on
finding the needs of a community, their identity.
Monica Jadzinska said that in the time of
globalization and technological changes, the
people need to support their own identity and
values. Also, their tourism sector benefits and
generates more than 300 billion Euros because of
the cultural heritage, and that is one of the reasons
why they give value to their cultural heritage.
Technology has played a big role in preserving the
cultural heritage of the different parts of the world.
Technology has been providing people with
countless of information on the internet like
scholarly published work. It can provide people
easy access to information. Technology can also
connect us with different experts in the world to
ask advice and to expand the range of knowledge
that we may have. Technology also gives plenty of
opportunities to work on things that are beyond our

strength. Cranes are the best example of the things

that work beyond our capabilities.

In the context of the Philippine National Cultural

Heritage Conservation and Preservation, I see no
reason why we cannot produce something that
would help in the conservation and preservation of
our cultural heritage. The problem in the
Philippines is the urge to attain the goals and to
implement the conservation of cultural heritage.
The National Cultural Heritage Act of the
Philippines has been preserving many cultural
artifacts, paintings, monuments and structures for
as long as I can remember. But there are still
heritage buildings that need assistance from the
government. Many heritage structures are being
demolished by the government while some are not
properly maintained and protected. The Heritage
Act is not implemented well because we don't
realize the importance of technology and the
people. It could also be the governments' fault
because they failed to make a more realistic and
achievable goal.

The government and institutions could use the help

of its community by giving awareness to the
current situation of the cultural heritage in the
Philippines. Even a student can formulate ways on
how to preserve and conserve if the student has
enough information about the project. Students
can also choose different fields of study such as a
psychological study of the environment, analysis of
the design of the structure based on aesthetics and
function and much more. They must be guided
respectively with a professional to strengthen their
ideas. Most importantly, the use of technology can
help them lessen the cost of the project and
prevent the risk of damage.

The approach to cultural heritage conservation

must be multidisciplinary so as to produce a better
output. Different sectors must give importance in
preserving heritage sites as it gives income to the
community and gives importance to social values.
