(Rogerian Argument Detailed Outline)

Animal Testing
I. Introduction (Rogerian Step One)
-

General Introduction (how would you introduce this topic in an actual paper?)
Humans are the ones who control the world; they have the last word in everything. Humans run the world
and kind of take control of other species.

Basic Context (give explanation as issue, basic definition or simple history)

Animal testing is the act of examining products or theories on animals. As an example, in the 1960s Thomas
E. Starzl experienced the organ transplant pioneer on dogs before humans.

Perspectives (give opposition perspective, then give your own; label each and be certain to give
full position)
Animal testing is way too beneficial in gathering data and protecting humans. So stopping it will be
wrong decision.
Animal testing is horrible; it violates the right of the animals, and causes them to suffer, thus it
should be stopped and reduced.

- Thesis Statement (detailed and clearly focused, presenting your position, and phrase it is a claim)
Even though some believe that animal testing is necessary and beneficial, it is proven to violate the animal
rights. Examining products on animals must be banned or at least reduced, because it violates the animals
right, alternatives are available, and it is proven to that it is not as effective as it was thought.
II. Opposition Perspective (Rogerian Step Two)
-

Restate Opposing Perspective

Some believe that animal testing is so beneficial and should not be stopped or banned. Examining
on animals gives a reliable data.

Details (including history, what they believe and why)

Numbers of animal testing has increased since the 1960s after Thomas E.Starzl experiment. It is
claimed the increment was due to the benefits from it. They believe stopping it is too much, and
other alternatives are way too expensive.

- Accepted Context (under what conditions would this perspective be correct or considered acceptable)
The perspective would be correct if animals are not suffering and have the choice to sacrifice
themselves or not. Also if no other alternatives are available, and if the alternatives can not surpass the
animal testing method.

III. Writer's Perspective (Rogerian Step Three)

-

Restate Writer's Perspective and Position

Animal testing is not as beneficial it is claimed to be, and it violate the animal rights. Examining on
animals is horrible and should be stopped.

Re-emphasize Claim
It is claimed that animal examination is the best method to gather data and test a product.
Moreover, it saves money

Details (including history, what you believe and why)

I have been raised to treat animals in good way, feed them and never interrupt or harm them. I
believe such examinations that cause a living creature to suffer mentally or physically is cruel while
there are alternatives. I truly believe it should be banned.

Accepted Context (under what conditions would this view be best received or most accepted)
It would be better received after more evidence is proven that animal testing is not so accurate.
Also, after alternatives have been developed and are proven to be the best choice on the long run.

Refutation of Opposition (what could you state to refute the opposition's perspective?)
Alternatives such as the engineering tissue sample, is way a better choice on the long run, even financially.
Moreover the engineering tissue sample would easily surpass the 25 percent of failure of animal testing.

IV. Common Ground (Rogerian Step Four & Proposal)

-

Proposed Solution/Resolution as Common Ground (careful with phrasing, please)

An alternative solution is developing the engineering tissue sample. The engineering tissue is much
better; it has no harm on animals or any living creature.

Context (what needs to happen for this occur; why does your common ground work, and even
how is it common ground?)
A first step is to reduce the usage of the animal testing. Also focus on studies and develop the
technology.

Implementation (how will it be carried out)

After development the technology will be tested. If it was not as accurate it will be back to
development process.

- Resources (what will be needed)

A sponsor with an enormous amount of money is needed to sponsor the studies required to
develop the method. Specialists in medical studies are needed.

V. Alternatives
(Are there other viable options as to resolution, beyond the common ground perspective or solution you
gave in IV above, and if so, what are they?)
VI. Concluding Statements
-

Predictions
In the near future animal testing will be stopped. Engineering tissue samples will be widely used.
People will notice the horrible act of testing on animals and it consequences

- Other Concerns (possibly to wrap up loose ends or ideas) or Rhetorical Questions

Other methods could be developed, rather than the engineering tissue. Is it possible to come up with a method 100
percent guaranteed?
