The SCP demo version comes with three sample

supply chains. This document pertains to the
DEMO data set, however most of the concepts are
the same. To switch from one data set to the other,
select the desired data set from the Database
pulldown.

Bicycle Factory Data Set: A bicycle factory in

China supplies 3 distribution centers (DCs) in the
East, West, and Central regions of the U.S.
The goal of this data set is to show replenishment
plans for manufacturing and distribution facilities,
and how the system links the 2 levels of the supply
chain so that the factory can see the net
requirements from each DC.

Demo: The demo data set is described in detail in this document.

Medical: A data set mimicking medical supplies

that are distributed from 4 locations in South
Africa (Distribution Centers in Johannesburg,
Pretoria, Cape Town, and Durban). These
DCs/warehouses are supplied by a main warehouse
(called Main).
The goal of this demo is to show how the system
handles expiring inventory and the ability to
recommend transfers between locations.

SCP 30 Minute Demo The Main Screen and Functionality Overview

SCP (Supply Chain Planning) provides materials managers and planners with a tool to control
inventory. SCP is a time-phased Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP) tool. Quite simply,
it recommends what to make, how much to make, and when to make it in order to fulfill existing
customer orders and maintain, but not exceed, desirable inventory levels.
SCP includes Material Requirement Planning (MRP) as well, with multi-level bill of materials
support. It can plan raw material orders directly or explode the raw material demand from the
finished goods plan.
In addition, SCP includes an optional rough-cut capacity planning tool for addressing the
capacity constraints of a business. This graphical feature allows additional fine tuning of the
supply chain process by providing visibility over factory resource load vs. capacity (machines,
work cells, etc.), and the ability to reschedule and pre-build product to fit within capacity
constraints.
Optionally sharing the planned demand with the appropriate suppliers and customers for Vendor
Managed Inventory, etc. is easy with SCPs flexible functionality.
A disciplined use of SCP allows you to monitor and streamline inventory levels resulting in
lower inventory costs and a significant increase in customer service.

SCP 30 Minute Demo Demo Scenario

SCP can support a multitude of multi-level supply chain relationships, however for the purposes
of this demo the data set is set up to represent a business that has two stores which are supplied
by one Distribution Center.
SCP bisa mendukung relasi multi-level supply chain dalam jumlah besar. Namun untuk tujuan
dari demo dibawah ini: data set diatur untuk mewakili sebuah bisnis yang mempunyai dua toko

Store #1 is called JB_STORE1

Store #2 is called JB_STORE2
The DC is called JB_DC1

Demand is forecasted at the store level and planned orders are calculated for the stores. That
demand, from both stores, is then driven down to the DC as dependent demand.
Permintaan diperkirakan di tingkat toko dan pesanan yang direncanakan dihitung untuk toko.
permintaan itu, dari kedua toko, kemudian didorong ke Distribution Center sebagai tanggungan
permintaan.
Our demo will focus on item/part number AAA617. This item is found at both stores and is
supplied by the DC. AAA617 is made up of three raw materials: Rawmat1, Rawmat2, and
Rawmat3. At the DC level, the demand for AAA617 will be passed on to its raw materials as
dependent demand, showing you how much raw material to order and when to order it.
Demo/bagan ini akan fokus pada item / nomor bagian AAA617. Item ini ditemukan di kedua toko
dan dipasok oleh Distribution Center. AAA617 terdiri dari tiga bahan baku: Rawmat 1, Rawmat2,

SCP 30 Minute Demo Sectional Overview

SCP is one of the most user-friendly planning systems available. For general use, there are only
two sections or tabs of SCP a user will need to be concerned with on a daily basis. These tabs,
Planning and Reporting, will make up the core of this demo. We will also briefly review the
maintenance and data mapping features of SCP. Note that there are many additional features in
SCP for the advanced user that are described in the user manual.
Planning Tab

edit mode

This is the main console of the SCP

planning module. From here, a planner can
view and edit the details of a single record,
or switch to a summary view to quickly
locate any trouble spots at a glance. One of
the many advantages of SCP is that it is
completely interactive and any data changes
are immediately reflected throughout the
system.
Note that to edit any data, you must first
place SCP in edit mode by clicking on the
word Edit under the word Record.

Safety Stock
The safety stock quantity represents the amount of material required to cover variation in demand over the lead-time
period. Planned orders recommended by the planning grid will suggest orders to maintain inventory above the
safety stock quantity. Note that Safety time is similar to safety stock but is represented in units of time. For
example, if the forecast or customer schedule were 10 units over the next several periods, a Safety Time of 2 would
calculate to a safety stock of 20 units. In the grid the calculations use the greater of safety stock and safety time.
Order Mult (lot size)
Order multiple is the smallest quantity (in multiples) that may be produced or shipped to a DC. For example a press
may be able to print individual labels but for convenience the number of labels may always be produced so it fills
one box. One box may be 5,000 labels. 5,000 would therefore be the Order Multiple.
Ord Min
Minimum Order size is the minimum amount of material that must be produced or shipped. For example, because
of setup, the minimum order size may be 100,000 labels. If the order multiple was 5,000 then production runs
would be no less than 100,000 and thereafter would be in multiples of 5,000.
Formula
This is the formula used to forecast. Individual formulas can be chosen for specific products. The default formula is
the datasets formula defined in system settings. Please note: the ForecastPro forecasting engine is not included in
this demo version and therefore the ForecastPro formulas are not listed. The ForecastPro engine is however
included in all registered licenses of SCP 4.0.
Leadtime
Leadtime is the amount of time from when an order is placed until it is ready for use. The unit of measure of
leadtime is the same as the planning mode (leadtime is in days if planning in days in weeks if planning in weeks).
Safety Time
See Safety Stock above. The unit of measure of safety time is the same as the planning mode (safety time is in days
if planning in days in weeks if planning in weeks).

Order Time
Order time is the frequency in which the planning grid will suggest orders. For example, an order time of 2 would
recommend planned orders as frequently as every two periods. The unit of measure of order time is the same as the
planning mode (order time is in days if planning in days in weeks if planning in weeks).

Planning Grid
The planning grid displays date sensitive data broken down into the rows shown below. SCP can plan in weekly
mode and in a daily mode as reflected in this demo.

Forecast

The SCP generated forecast based on the selected formula and historical data for this
record. Please note: the ForecastPro forecasting engine is not included in this demo
version and therefore the ForecastPro formulas are not listed. The ForecastPro engine is
however included in all registered licenses of SCP 4.0.

Adjusted
Forecast

This number will override the SCP or system generated forecast. Typically, this data is
manually entered or imported from another forecasting source

Customer Orders

Open customer order quantities

Dependent Demand

Any demand for this item that has been consolidated to this location. A typical scenario
is demand at multiple DCs consolidated to a manufacturing plant location.

Gross Requirements

The final count of actual requirements after determining (the greater of forecast and
customer orders) + dependent demand

Scheduled Receipts

Pending replenishments for this item. These can be open work orders, open purchase
orders, transfers, in transit orders, etc This line does NOT include system generated
planned orders (see Planned Receipts below)

Planned Receipts

The expected availability of material as a result of a system generated planned order. The
availability date of the planned order will be the production date + leadtime

Projected Inventory

What the onhand balance will be for that time period

Planned Order

The system generated planned or replenishment order

Days Onhand

The number of days the projected inventory will last

If you click on any of the Dep Demand cells (to view the details of the dependent demand),
your SCP screen should look like the following snapshot.

Note how SCP has exploded the bill of materials for AAA617 and driven the demand to the raw
material record.
Also notice that the finished good material quantity is proportionally converted into a raw
material quantity (by multiplying it with the Qty per value).
The Planning tab has many additional features that simplify the planning process and put
information at the fingertips of the planner: the ability to select the sort order for your records, a
handy navigation tree, and on-demand graphs are just some of these features.

These are described in detail in the user manual and will not be reviewed in this demo.

Filter

Filter fields (Location,

Class, Planner, Supplier, ABC code)

SCP includes a standard set of reports that are crucial for proper inventory management. Every
report is filtered by five key fields so that the data for each report can be custom tailored for
different users.
Report settings are stored in Report Scenarios. This allows the system to be set up so that the
same report can be generated with different settings, without having to change the settings or
filters every time. For example, if we wanted to run the ABC analysis report for planner As
items and the ABC Analysis report for planner Bs items, we could build and save two scenarios
of report type ABC Analysis, but each with different Planner selections. We would name these
scenarios ABC Analysis A and ABC Analysis B and they would be available from the
Scenario pull-down at all times.
A Scenario filter is also available to help planners quickly find the existing reporting scenarios
they need.

SCP 30 Minute Demo Reporting Tab continued

ABC Analysis recommends how to categorize products from most important to least important based on
volumes.

The Shipments report lists the recommended replenishment or planned orders by supplier

SCP 30 Minute Demo Reporting Tab continued

The Onhand report lists all inventory balances and values by item.

The Stockout report lists all items where inventory is less than zero. This report is a good example of how
powerful and flexible the Exceptions report type can be. Here we have selected one exception to display, and that
is the Stockout exception. This basically provides a stockout report. However, see below how the exceptions
report type can be used to custom-tailor a multitude of different reports by selecting different combinations of
exceptions to display.

This Exceptions report lists records with raw material shortages, late customer orders, and the expedite
scheduled receipt warning.

The Manufacturing Release report prints out a release schedule grouped by customizable attributes (such as
color, adhesive, backing, width, length, etc..). This report is useful for releasing orders to the manufacturing floor in
a sequence that will minimize setup times and meet minimum attribute lot quantities.

The Safety Stock Analysis report can recommend optimum safety stock levels based on the old M.A.D. (Mean
Absolute Deviation) method or the more accurate Precise method.

The Perpetual

Inventory report gives a detailed look at the inventory balances in daily or weekly time periods.

The Performance report displays your

business performance today and what it is
anticipated to be should the SCP
recommendations be followed. This
report shows stockouts, current inventory
costs, current inventory turns, ending
inventory costs, ending inventory turns,
etc In addition, the report allows you to
view the results of changes to safety times
and order times (what-if scenarios)
without committing any live changes to
the system.

The Adjusted Forecast Tracking report is useful if SCP is used as a Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI)
system where a customer is providing a forecast for SCP to use. SCP tracks adjusted forecast values on a daily
basis. This report will show changes to the customers forecast from day to day in case significant variations exist in
the data.

Does Not Apply to Demo

You will find over a dozen very useful reports that come standard with SCP. Please note that
custom reports can also be integrated with the main SCP system on a client by client basis.

SCP includes an extremely flexible and user friendly data integration tool Data Mapping.
However, all systems must have a manual way to edit and review data. The Maintenance Tab
lists all the different editable tables in SCP and allows the user to search, filter, update, add, and
delete data.
In addition, the maintenance screens are also equipped with the ability to update multiple records
at one time through the use of SCPs Multi-Record Changes feature (only displayed when edit mode is on

SCP 30 Minute Demo Data Mapping Tab

By far, the most difficult and frustrating part of any system is the integration of external data
from legacy systems and other sources.
SCPs Data Mapping module is designed to make accomplishing this task as simple and easy as
possible through the use of intuitive powerful data integration maps.

Planning Data
sub-tab

Every necessary category of SCP data can be mapped. In addition, each map created can be
placed in a scenario group with other maps for one-click execution of multiple maps at once.
As an example, we will take a
look at the On-Hand & MTD
Sales map. Click on the
Planning Data sub-tab and
then Click on the On-Hand
& MTD Sales button.

Planning Data

SCP 30 Minute Demo Data Mapping Tab continued

This map retrieves onhand information from a text file called demo1\itemloc.txt.
This file is an ASCII delimited file and the delimiter is the TAB character (the fields in each
record are separated by the tab character).
We will be retrieving the first three fields and the largest field size is a maximum of 75
characters (the default value).
The first field in the text file is mapped to the Item field in SCP
The second field in the text file is mapped to the Location field in SCP
The third field in the text file is mapped to the OnHand field in SCP
The incoming data will Reset the SCP data (all the onhand values in SCP will be set to zero
before the updates from the text file are applied).
Only items and locations that already exist in SCP will be updated. Any new items or locations
in the text file will be ignored.

One handy feature is the ability to Load Sample Data which allows you to verify the
information and the mappings before committing to the import. Press Load Sample Data.

All the information from the text file is displayed, and it is now obvious which column gets
mapped to which field in SCP.
This was a very simple example of bringing in an ASCII file, but SCP data mapping is capable
of much more. These maps can retrieve data from Excel, XML, ODBC (SQL), custom
programs, and much more.

SCP 30 Minute Demo Constraint Planning

SCP includes an optional Constraint Planning module. Now that SCP has provided the
recommended replenishment plan, the constraint planning module will help you manage your
manufacturing capacity, raw material availability, and minimum run constraints by producing a
schedule that fits within these constraints.
To access the Constraint Planning module, click on Modules at the very top of the SCP screen
on the menu bar.

Select Constraint Control Center.

At a glance, you can easily see that the third days load for Mixer 01 exceeds its capacity.

25

SCP 30 Minute Demo Constraint Planning continued

The Constraint Planning module can smooth this schedule, pushing orders out to fit within
capacity or pre-building orders if capacity is available at an earlier date. All this is done in
keeping with the minimize inventory philosophy.

Right-click on Mixer -01 and then click Fill to Capacity. This produces the following
smoothed schedule.

26

SCP 30 Minute Demo Scheduling

SCP includes an optional Scheduling module.
To access the Scheduling module, click on Modules at the very top of the SCP screen on the
menu bar.

Select Scheduling.

The scheduling module allows you to schedule your shop floor graphically and by dragging and
dropping orders in the appropriate time slot. You can also move orders between machines. Clear
color coding shows when important attributes such as adhesives, widths, colors, etc are
changing so that setup times can be minimized. The system supports customized optimization
algorithms.

27

SCP 30 Minute Demo Scheduling continued

The scheduling modules attribute changeover matrix makes sure all setup times are captured.

SCP 30 Minute Demo Raw Material Availability

SCPs optional Raw Material Availability (RMA) module is a floating window that can be
activated during planning or scheduling, and interactively shows the status of raw material
balances as a result of creating planned orders or scheduling an order in a particular time slot.
RMA can also be installed as a stand-alone program to monitor legacy system raw material level
status vs. load.
RMA will not be covered in detail in this demo. However it is worth noting and can be an
invaluable tool in reducing lost scheduling time and late orders.

This concludes the demo. SCP is capable of handling much more but this should give you a
general idea of the basic capabilities of the system.
