VOIP
VoIP is a voice over internet protocol is a technology for real-time
transmission of voice signals, using the Internet Protocol (IP) over the
public Internet or a private data network. VOIP is also called IP
telephony, the main advantage of VoIP over .public switched telephone
network (PSTN) is long distance calls are allowed in VOIP and
bypassing of toll charge is possible. And in VoIP communication on
existing IP networks is allowed without the addition of any additional
lines or bandwidth. In VOIP voice, signal activities are received which are
then encoded in digital form and divided into small parts of information in the form of
voice data network packets. Now, these encoded voice data network packets are decoded

and transmitted as voice signals. And thus, voice transmission between sender and
receiver happens. These packets can be now compressed and sent to save the bandwidth
during transmission. This process must be reversed at the receiver side to get the original
information. This process of encoding and decoding can be done by a number of
different voice- encoding algorithms are used (codecs), each codec
uses a different algorithm for sampling the analogue voice wave and
the sophistication of the compression.
MOS
Mean opinion score is a test which obtains the human user's view of the
quality of the network. This test has been used in the telephony network from decades. In
VoIP, it is observed that MOS decreases with the increase of the distance
between BS and SS. Each codec is provided with a specific MOS by a
panel of auditors paying attention to distinctly recorded samples. The range of MOS will
be between 1 to 5.
Where 1 corresponds to unacceptable and 5 corresponds to excellent.

SUMMARY
Mewara et al., (2015), this paper discusses the performance of three queuing techniques
(First In First Out Queuing, Priority Queuing, Weighted Fair Queuing) and their effects
with VOIP application in WIMAX. As noise plays a key role in voice communication, we
use different queuing techniques which helps to reduce the lag between the packets which
thereby reduces the noise. The performance of these queuing techniques differs from
number of nodes used in the network. For measuring the performance of different
queuing techniques they have investigated the jitter, MOS value, packet delay variation
and packet end to end delay for three different queuing schemes. It is found that if the
number of workstations is less than or equal to 15, the performance of all the queuing
techniques seemed to be the same. But when the number of work stations have been
increased to 30 it is found all constraints except jitter are found same for FIFO and PQ.
But the jitter value for PQ is better when compared with FIFO and WPQ. So PQ is found
suitable for Voip application.
Mohamed.A.Mohamed et al., (2012), analyzed Quality Of Service (QOS) between two
locations which are separated by long distances with Voip over WIMAX is performed
with help of selected parameters. And quality of Voip calls, given by R-score, with
respect to the delay and loss of packets is also dicussed. For this analysis they have
simulated 10 scenarios, in which 3 scenarios distance is varied, 4 scenarios modulation is
varied and in the remaining 4 scenarios power is varied.it is found that better QOS is
found for the minimum distance, QAM modulation schemes and maximum power. These
conclusions can be used for the improvement of QOS of VOIP over WIMAX.
