Some words change their stress depending if they are being

used as a verb or a noun. Nouns often have the stress on the

first syllable and verbs on the last.

Listen to me reading the following sentences. Underline the

stress on the words in bold.

1. Arrow Pharm exports to places as far away as India.

2. One of Arrow Pharm’s main exports is generic antibiotics.
3. We are stopping for two hours as a protest.
4. Thousands of people came to protest outside of City Gate in
Valletta against animal testing.
5. There’s been an increase in demand for generic products.
6. Sales for this quarter have increased substantially.
How do you say these words when they are referring to the
verb and the noun. Is the stress at the beginning or the end?
