Hartford, CT – State Healthcare Advocate Kevin Lembo announced today that he will establish a
candidate committee to pursue the office of State Comptroller.

“Since December, I have spent almost every evening and weekend traveling the state and talking
with voters about the need for greater efficiency and accountability in our state government –
offering concrete ideas about the changes needed to make Connecticut a stronger state,” Lembo
said, “With your support, I will work tirelessly with our new Governor to put us on-track to
recovery and long-term prosperity.”

Before becoming the Healthcare Advocate, Lembo served as an Assistant State Comptroller for
over 6 years where he worked on the state budget, health care policy, and the state employee &
retiree benefit plan. “There is no learning curve for me as State Comptroller, no on-the-job
training that we cannot afford. I am ready to begin work on day one to tackle the complex issues
that face our State, and restore confidence in our government’s ability to get the job done.”

Lembo is a Toll Fellow of the Council of State Governments, and holds a Master of Public
Administration degree from California State University. He is a nationally recognized health
care policy expert and tested public administrator. From his proposals for coordinated health
care purchasing, to an innovative “Nursing Home without Walls” program, Kevin has
demonstrated the right skills and experience to be our next Comptroller.

Lembo, a Guilford resident, formed a statewide exploratory committee for Lieutenant Governor
last year. Since the start of his campaign, Lembo said he would step aside if Wyman made a
move to run for Lieutenant Governor. With the news that she is joining the campaign of
Democrat Dan Malloy, Lembo said it makes sense to pursue the Democratic nomination for
Comptroller.

“Nancy Wyman has been my friend, mentor and colleague for more than a decade. There is no
one more prepared to be our next Lieutenant Governor. It’s an honor to support her.” Lembo
said, “I am also proud to launch my candidacy for the office in which she has so ably served for
the past 16 years.”

The Comptroller is Connecticut’s fiscal watchdog. The Comptroller is also the state’s
bookkeeper, payroll officer and independent fiscal analyst. More than $1billion in health care
spending and administration is controlled by the office.
