Though function is the foundation

of the design, the form and
the structure are the direct
performances to the audience.
In this space reformation project,
the original cube-like factory is
replaced by a combination of
a curved roof, an organized
curtainwall and an organic floor
plan. With an accessible roof, the
light as well as the environment
play a more important role to
the building. The main idea
of the project is to bring more
environmental elements into
the interior space as well as
apply more dynamic features
to the building. Sustainability is
another interesting part of the
final design: green roof and the
accessibility to the rooftop add
to the interaction between the
building and its users.

The depth of the space defined

by light and shadows expresses
the form of the structure. In this
knot architecture, different
possibilities of spatial structure
are explored by creating a
subterranean space from a simple
wireframe to a cube combination
. As a design fundamental class,
it gives students the first feeling
of the space and the division.
The chambers in the final model
are originally transformed from a
simple wireframe that conveys the
concept of Knot. Specifically,
the mass model made from
my wireframe creates a sense
of symmetry and balance and
defines the edge of the whole
model with the turns on every
imaginary surface. In this way,
the structure is not only a support
to the form, but also a part of the
form itself.

The Cancer Survivor Park is

considered as the only public
park in downtown Minneapolis,
which in fact attracts no one to
come. The nearest residential
area is only two blocks away and
it is in the heart of downtown
Minneapolis, so the reason why
it does not work is not external.
Affiliated to the Maquette Plaza, it
is always considered to be part of
the commercial building and the
statues on the ground make it more
like a sculpture garden instead
of a recreational park. In order to
activate the area, a gravel path as
well as the picnic stuff are placed
on the lawn to invite visitors to walk
onto the park. Transformed from
a vacant parking lot, a new green
space will be created just in front of
the park to response to the original
one.

Circulation Around the park

The objective of the project is to

create a single residential house
for three architecture students
within a 9mx9mx9m cube. This
cube transformation practice
provides an opportunity for
students to experiment new types
of structure and forms. In this case,
connected by the Belt Corridor,
the space is divided into multiple
functional areas, which creates
a organic and dynamic interior
environment. The Belt Corridor
is the base of the whole design
because it defines the way
that core functional spaces are
divided. Instead of just being a
part of vertical circulation, it also
works as a buffer zone in such
a condensed house. Actually
it can be considered as an
independent public space rather
than a secondary support and
connection inside the house.

Architecture has always been

considered as the combination
of
art
and
engineering.
Furthermore,
the
visual
performance and the graphic
design of the architectural
design used to be an important
part in the design process,
before computer programs are
introduced to designers. Hand
drawing and painting are the
most popular method used to
express architects impression
of architecture, design and
everything.
The
application
of water is even more broad
because it portrays the continuity
of the paintings and can be
easily manufactured to express
different emotion. In this section,
three samples of watercolor
paitings will be manufactured
and displayed to convey
different feelings: it can be either
happiness or sorrow, cold or
warm, positive or negative.
