Acquire top notch networking techniques, Learn to negotiate job offers and Customize an action plan.

Panelists include representatives from the following organizations: Target, Southern Wine & Spirits,
Teach for America, USC Employee Recruitment Services and more. Lunch will be provided compliments

PAID INTERNSHIPS
 Los Angeles County Arts Commission – Summer Internship Program ($3500 stipend)
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors established the Arts Internship Program (which
provides internships for nonprofit performing, presenting, literary, and municipal arts organizations)
as a companion program to the Getty Multicultural Internship Program (which provides internships to
museums and visual arts organizations). The purpose of the County's program is to provide
undergraduate students with meaningful on-the-job training and experience in working in nonprofit
arts organizations, while assisting arts organizations to develop future arts leaders. This program is a
10 week paid summer internship (40 hours/week) for 125 full-time undergraduate college students.
Students are paid $350/week to work with a nonprofit arts organization within Los Angeles County.
Nonprofits include various performing, presenting, and literary arts organizations, and local agencies.
Interns also participate in several educational events. Undergraduates and graduating seniors may
apply. Students must have completed at least one semester of college by June 2010, and be currently
enrolled (full-time) in a community college or a four year university. Graduating seniors are eligible
only if they are to complete their undergraduate degree by September 1st, 2010. Students must
either reside in Los Angeles County or attend school in Los Angeles County. Candidates are
welcome from all areas of undergraduate study and are not required to have demonstrated a previous
commitment to the arts. A number of the 125 internship postings are currently posted on connectSC.

 Southern California Earthquake Center – Web Design & Database Assistant ($10-14/hr)
The Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) at USC is seeking a USC student to assist in the
development and maintenance of our various web services and databases. Salary will be based on
skills and experience. UNDERGRADUATE students are preferred, though graduate students will be
considered. Students with work-study financial aid are encouraged to apply. During the school year
we can offer 10 to 20 hours of work each week, and full-time summer work is possible. The ideal
student will be reliable, have good writing skills, and have many of the following computing skills
and experience. Items in bold are more important skills than the others. Fast learners are encouraged
to apply! Markup Languages: HTML, XML. Scripting Languages: PHP, JavaScript. Style Sheets:
CSS, XSLT. Databases: FileMaker, MySQL. Software: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator & Acrobat (or
equivalents). Operating Systems: Unix, Mac. Other: Java servlets. Availability of 10-40 hours per
week, Monday-Friday 9am-6pm. Responses that do not provide the following information will not be

 Sony Pictures Imageworks – Systems Group Intern


Sony Pictures Imageworks, Inc. is an Academy Award winning studio dedicated to the art of visual
effects production and character animation. The company's achievements have been recognized by
the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with Oscars for its work on Spider-Man 2 and The
ChubbChubbs! Other recent Oscar nominated projects include Surf's Up! Projects recently completed
are Watchmen, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, G Force, Cats and Dogs 2 and Alice in
Wonderland. Currently in production are Aardman’s Arthur Christmas, The Smurfs Movie, Green
Lantern and Hotel Transylvania. Sony Pictures Imageworks has immediate openings for Interns to
work in the (Computer/Technology) Systems Group. Duties and responsibilities include but will not
be limited to moving/relocating systems and peripherals. Organize in-house inventory of
parts/computers/peripherals; Scrubbing disks; Monitor distributions and calibrations. Review
outstanding HelpDesk tickets and following up on them. Help update documentation for Systems’
inhouse “wikipedia” pages for various processes and procedures. Depend on skill set/background
could be used for some Level 1 troubleshooting and/or configuration of systems. Education Focus:
electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science. Internships or work experience is a
plus. Duration: 1 or 2 semesters. This is paid internship, up to a maximum of 30 hours/week. If you

UNPAID INTERNSHIPS
 Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation – Spanish Language Media Intern
The Spanish-Language Media Intern will assist in building and sustaining relationships with media
and allied organizations. The intern will also be heavily involved in monitoring and responding to
print and broadcast media as it pertains to GLAAD's mission. Additionally, the Intern will help foster
GLAAD’s role as a community resource nationwide. The Spanish Language Media Intern will work
with the SLM Director to write content for glaad.org as well as blog content in both English and
Spanish. The intern will assist in writing and editing materials in English and Spanish that support the
Spanish Language GLAAD Media Awards including press materials and media advisories. The intern
will assist in monitoring and archiving Spanish Language Media. The intern will assist with PR
outreach related to work with media such as pitching stories to press. Journalism, Communications,
Spanish or Public Relations majors a plus. Candidate must be fluent in both English and Spanish.
Fluent oral, verbal, reading and writing Spanish-language skills are a must. For the full job

 World Poker Tour – Casino & Player Relations


Work with C&P Team to roll out new Satellite Partner Program: Reconnect with past satellite casinos
and educate them on new program; Assist team in executing agreements; Craft web materials to
support & inform potential partners about program; Manage reactive plan; Provide support for new
partners. Identify and profile gaming properties; Create "snapshots" of venues internationally and
domestically: Make recommendations based on event-type needs. Focus on non-WPT events: Track
numerous events taking place in the poker world; Provide recaps of events; Make recommendations
for WPT offerings based on player feedback. Communicate with players via social networking sites;
Work with Interactive for player email blasts; Update player contact information. Prepping
tournament materials; Managing incoming emails through site. Requirements: Social Media savvy,
MS Office friendly, PhotoShop knowledgeable. Please email resume,

 Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles – Prospect Research Intern


The Prospect Research Intern will help spearhead the Development Department’s efforts in
researching funding prospects, including researching and identifying plausible prospects within the
current donor database, creating profiles on these prospects and creating and implementing
procedures for tracking and organizing major donor prospects. Responsibilities and tasks include
planning and developing research program objectives and content. Developing and maintaining
systems, policies and procedures to facilitate proactive prospect identification, research, assessment
and tracking. Creating prospect profiles for major donors. Maintaining and updating detailed
biographical profiles and master files on all $10,000 plus donors. Communicating plausible prospects
to development organization. Organizing donor research component for historical campaign to raise
resources for major programmatic expansion. Identifying new fund opportunities through regular
reading of fundraising and general interest periodicals. Preparing reports and lists of prospects for
Development Officers. Other responsibilities as assigned. Excellent written and verbal
communication skills. Ability to think creatively and strategically in planning, executing and
evaluating programs and events, with a talent for motivating and managing volunteers. Knowledge of
fundraising and philanthropic principles. Respect for high standards and the maintenance of
confidential information. Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Access and
Word. Experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred. Knowledge of research sources such as Google,
Guidestar and Hoovers. Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Willingness to work in a team environment. Respect the confidentiality of all donors and donor

 Demand Media – New Media Intern
Do you lie awake at night wondering how you'll be able to use your journalism, communications or
English degree in a rapidly changing industry? Do you secretly wish you could turn your obsession
with Facebook into an actual career? Do you want to learn the ins and outs of online publishing, but
don't know where to start? You're in luck: Demand Media, one of the fastest-growing social media
companies in the industry, is seeking six interns to work out of our Santa Monica office for the
summer. Our internship program is highly structured, with an emphasis on education. Demand Media
interns walk away with a polished resume and working knowledge of HTML, Photoshop, Search
Engine Optimization, Google Analytics and social media strategies. Demand Media editors fetch their
own coffee. Work with editors to leverage social media tools and syndicate content across social
media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, digg, Yahoo! Shine and more. Choose timely articles
and write compelling headlines and copy for homepage and newsletters of Demand Media properties
like Trails.com, LIVESTRONG.COM and GolfLink.com. Attend weekly editorial meetings and
participate in brainstorming sessions. Learn Demand's proprietary publishing process from the editors
of Demand Studios, and work alongside editors to maintain and improve it. Complete a long-term
final project, determined by intern interest and company need. What you’ll get out of it: A thorough
knowledge of the fundamentals of online publishing. Private workshops with representatives from
SEO, marketing, community, product management, and more. Familiarity with programs that look
great on a resume, including Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Excel. A chance to collaborate with an
enthusiastic, close-knit editorial team, and contribute to the overall editorial process. Specialized
resume and cover letter workshop depending on your areas of interest and career goals. Demand
Media internships are extremely competitive. All applicants must be enrolled in college courses and
maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better. Applicants must be available 20-25 hours a week during regular
business hours for eight weeks. The internship is for college credit only, but there are plenty of perks,
including free parking, kitchens plentifully stocked with snacks and drinks, an office between Third
Street Promenade and the beach, and the opportunity to work at a company on the cutting edge of the

publishing experience and familiarity with social media are big pluses, but not requirements.
