Required Tools

Case Parts
Trim Piece
1. Start in the right rear corner. Use a screwdriver through the slot by the top of the
connector area to release the first catch for the trim piece.
2. The remaining trim catches across the top rear of the printer should be released by
sliding a finger underneath the trim piece from right to left.
3. Release the catch on the middle left side of the Trim Piece.
4. Release the catch on the middle right side of the Trim Piece.
5. Release the catch on the lower left side of the Trim Piece.
6. Release the catch on the lower right side of the Trim Piece.

Access Door (optional)

1. Raise the Access Door one quarter to halfway open.
2. Place right hand fingers in line with door pivot, near the center of the door.
3. Push up with the right hand while holding the left edge of the door down, bending
door and releasing left hinge.
4. Rotate the door fully open and disengage the right pivot post from the Top Case.

Top Case, Rear Cleanout, and Keypad Assembly

1. Remove the Rear Cleanout by pressing in on both tabs and pulling the Rear
Cleanout from the rear of the printer.
2. Remove two screws from the Top Case.
3. Release Top Case catches near the Output Tray, then partially lift the Top Case to
enable disconnecting the wiring to the Keypad. Once the Keypad has been
disconnected, finish removing the Top Case.
4. Push on two catches to release the Keypad from the Top Case.

Side & Rear Case Parts and Power Switch

Rotate and remove the Right Side Case.

Rotate and remove the Left Side Case.
Lift and remove the Rear Case.
Remove the Power Switch.

Tray Parts
Input, Output Tray
1. Rotate and remove the Output Tray.
2. Remove the Screw in the Input Tray.
3. Slide the Input Tray out toward the front of the printer.

Flip-Up Tray
Output Tray
1. Push in on the left wall of the tray assembly and pry it loose from the printer.
2. Remove the tray assembly screw.

Overall Input/Output Tray Removal

1. With the printer on its back, push in tab to release the Input Tray Assembly from the
printer.
2. Lift the Tray Assembly from the printer.

Width Adjuster Removal

1. Slide the Width Adjuster fully to the right.
2. Rotate the Width Adjuster to remove it.
Length Adjuster Removal

1. Slide the Input Tray out to its fully extended position (note: Length Adjuster must be
out in the Paper Surface of the Input Tray to fully extend the Input Tray).
2. Reach underneath the Input Tray Paper Surface to release the Length Adjuster Stop.
3. With the Stop released, slide the Length Adjuster to the rear of the Input Tray Paper
Surface and off the Input Tray.

Trim Piece Removal

1. Gently pull forward and rotate the Right Input Trim to remove.
2. Gently pull forward and rotate the Left Input Trim to remove.
3. Remove the Friction Enhancers from the left and right sides of the Input Tray.

Moving Input Tray Removal

1. With the Moving Input Tray in the raised position, pry the right side of the Fixed
Input Tray out to release the post on the Moving Input Tray.
2. Pry the left side of the Fixed Input Tray out to release the post on the Moving Input
Tray.
3. Remove the Moving Input Tray from the Fixed Input Tray.

Moving Input Tray Disassembly

1. With the assembly fully contracted, flex the Moving Input Tray
2. Lift the left edge of the Paper Surface of the Input Tray to release it from the Exterior
Moving section of the Input Tray.
3. While pressing in on the Length Adjuster Stop, slide the Exterior Moving section
approximately one quarter inch (7mm) apart from the Paper Surface of the Input
Tray.
4. Rotate the two surfaces to release from one another.

Main / Logic PCA

Disconnect the two Trailing Cables and Main Wiring Harness from the Main PCA.
Disconnect the Service Station Flex Cable from the Main PCA.
Remove two screws from the Main PCA.
Lift and remove the Main PCA.

Carriage Assembly
1. Remove the screw from the Side Bracket.
2. Rotate and remove the Side Bracket.
3. Rotate the rearmost Service Station Cluster Gear counterclockwise to release the
Carriage.
4. Then slide the Carriage approximately to the center of the Carriage Rod.
5. Push in on the Encoder Spring and disconnect the Encoder Strip.
6. Disconnect the Encoder Strip at its right end. Gently draw the Encoder Strip to the
left to remove the Encoder Strip from the Carriage Assembly. During this process,
the Encoder Strip probably will be contaminated by grease from the Carriage Rod.
Discard the Encoder Strip.
7. Remove the Rod Spring.

Carriage Assembly, continued

Loosen or remove the Screw fixing the Belt Tensioning Assembly in place.
Push the Belt Tensioning Assembly to the left and lift off the Carriage Belt.
Remove the Carriage Belt from the Carriage Motor Pulley.
Unthread the Trailing Cables from the Backbone Assembly.
Slide the Trailing Cable Clamp to the right and remove it from the Backbone
Assembly.
6. Remove one black and two silver Screws from the Carriage Rod.
7. Carefully lift and remove the Carriage Rod/Carriage Assembly.

Order Optional Disassembly

After this point, order of disassembly may become optional. For example, the Service
Station may be removed without further disassembly of the main Chassis.
Backbone Assembly

Rotate and remove the two Rod Clips.

Disconnect the Wiring Harness from the Carriage Motor.
Disconnect the Wiring Harness from the Encoder PCA.
Remove two screws holding the Backbone Assembly to the Chassis.
Lift and bring forward to remove Backbone Assembly from the Printer.

Carriage Motor

Remove two screws holding the Carriage Motor to the Backbone.
Remove the Carriage Motor.
If desired, remove the Encoder Spring.

Service Station Removal

1. Find black locating post from the Spittoon on the underside of the printer. Push up
to loosen the Service Station.
2. Rotate and remove the Service Station to the side of the printer.

Gear Guard Removal

The Gear Guard has two rather fragile snaps.
1. Loosen the top snap from the left side of the printer. May need to use screwdriver.
2. Use a Torx or blunt screwdriver to loosen the lower snap from the front of the
printer. It is difficult to see during this maneuver, and the operator will need to fit
the screwdriver past the Lifter Spring and the Carriage and Paper path Motors.
3. Carefully remove the Gear Guard from the rear of the printer.

Lifter Spring Removal

The Lifter Spring may be removed at this time, if desired. Use needle-nosed pliers to lift
the top loop of the spring from the chassis.

Pick Assembly Removal

1. From the rear of the printer, find the two polar bearings attaching the Pick Assembly
to the Chassis. Release them and rotate them toward the rear of the printer.
2. Gently lift the Pick Assembly out of the printer.

Wiring Harness

Remove the screw holding the Duplexer Interconnect PCB to the Chassis.
Remove Thru-Hole Cable Ties by compressing with needle-nosed pliers.
Disconnect the Wiring Harness from the Paper path Motor
Disconnect the Wiring Harness from the Paper path Encoder Board.
Remove the Wiring Harness from the Chassis.

Upper Paper Guide Removal

Caution: The Upper Paper Guide Assembly is fragile and easily damaged.
1. From the rear, push the Upper Paper Guide Spring forward to release it from the
Upper Paper Guide Hanger.
2. Move the Upper Paper Guide Spring back off the Upper Paper Guide and remove
it from the printer.
Repeat for the remaining three spring locations.

Upper Paper Guide Removal, continued

1. Gently push back on the four spring-holding features and the OOPS Flag.
2. Rotate the Upper Paper Guide.
3. Slide the Upper Paper Guide out the rear of the printer.

Platen Removal
Starwheel Structure Removal, Platen Cap Removal
1. Remove two screws.
2. Lift and remove the Starwheel Structure.
3. Gently use flat-blade screwdriver to release the Platen Cap rear snaps.
4. Rotate and remove the Platen Cap toward the rear of the printer.

Platen
1. Loosen the snap on the right side of the Platen, moving the Platen slightly to the left.
2. Lift and remove the Platen.
3. As needed, the ink absorption system may be disassembled:
a. Remove the gray Platen Baffle, which may have adhesive to hold it to
the Platen
b. Remove the Platen Absorber
c. Remove the Platen Bias

Feed Roller Assembly Removal

Using needle nose pliers, remove the Caber Pin.

Remove the Shifter Spring.
Release and rotate the Paper Motor Bracket Bearing.
Release and rotate two Polar Bearings.
Lift and remove the Feed Roller Assembly.

Output Roller Assembly Removal

1. Rotate the left tab forward until it releases.
2. Rotate the right tab forward until it releases.
3. Lift out the Output Roller Assembly.

Lower Paper Guide Assembly Removal

1. From the rear of the printer, use a flat-bladed screwdriver to release two tabs
anchoring the Lower Paper Guide.
2. Rotate the Lower Paper Guide Assembly toward the front of the printer to release its
forward tabs.
3. Lift and remove the Lower Paper Guide Assembly.
4. Lift and Remove the Kicker.

Paper Motor Bracket Assembly Removal

1. Remove Screw.
2. Slide the Assembly forward so the tab clears the rear fold of the Chassis, then lift
and remove the Paper Motor Bracket Assembly.
