PROJECT (GROUP Assessment [2~3 in a Group]) JAN 2016


You are an Offshore Design Engineer in a multi-national oil and gas engineering company. Your company
has secured a job from PETRONAS. The client wants you to design a fixed offshore jacket platform
facility for a gas field with the following details;
A. Topside area is 180ft (w) x 240ft (L) with minimum 3 decks
B. Space requirement
Dimension (in feet) & Area (in feet square) for ACCOMODATION UNIT
i. One utility room ~flexible dimension (Area: 420 ft2)
ii. One living room ~ flexible dimension (Area. 432 ft2)
iii. One dining area ~ flexible dimension (Area: 144 ft2)
iv. One dry kitchen ~ flexible dimension (Area: 432 ft2)
v. One wet kitchen ~ flexible dimension (Area: 144 ft2)
vi. Three toilets ~ flexible dimension (Area: each 64 ft2)
vii. Four bedrooms ~ flexible dimension (Area. each 144 ft2)
viii. Study room ~ flexible dimension (Area: 144 ft2)
ix.. Prayer room ~ flexible dimension (Area: 324 ft2)
xi. Four bedrooms ~ flexible dimension (Area. each 144 ft2)
xii. Fun area ~ flexible dimension (Area. 120 ft2)
ITEMS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE IN THE WORKING UNIT ARE.
- Crane, gas pipeline, heli-deck, flare boom, rescue boats, compressor units, conductors, risers,
separator, etc (conduct research to find-out the necessary facilities in a gas platform)
Additional information;
All single leaf doors to be 3'x7' and double leaf doors to be 6'x7'
Windows shall have flexible dimensions
Your task is;
1. Required to come out with set of drawings consisting; plan view, cross sectional view and front and
side elevation view of the platform. In your drawing you should include different layers for,
a. Structures (walls, partition, etc.)
b. Dimension, gridlines, etc.
c. Electrical appliances (Lamps and fans)
e. And on any other features that you wish to use
Use appropriate symbols that commonly used in standard drawings. Assume appropriate dimensions and
gridlines. Demonstrate hatch, isometric and 3D drawings. Creativity and appropriateness in
demonstration is appreciated. Include appropriate title block in the drawing to define company name,
drawing title, client etc. You may include any furniture in your drawings.
Submit before 25th April 2016 (Monday), 5pm to Mr Edward. The drawings should be plotted in A1
sized paper/s and submitted by-hand. Get the assistance of Mr Edward for the plotting. Submission is by
softcopy (email to Edward) and hardcopy (print copy submit by hand to Edward). All submission is before
the above timeline.
The Project marking criterion is based on;
Originality
Creativity
Technical details (like dimensions, arrow heads, standards, tidiness etc.)
Practicality
Within the Standard Drawing Requirements (title block, layers etc.)
WARNING: Any misconduct such as asking others (seniors/friends/professionals etc.) to assist/perform
the task of the project, copying others work etc. will lead to severe penalty.
