VMware vCenter Server 4.

x Database Sizing Calculator for Microsoft SQL Server

This calculator estimates the size of the vCenter Server database after it runs for a certain time period. This estimate is calculated from the information that you
fdad enter about your VMware vSphere 4 deployment, such as the number of hosts and virtual machines.
In all cases, the estimate is based on the following assumptions:
The database is SQL Server, version 2005 or later.
The Statistics Collection Intervals are set to the default values.
The information that you provide to the calculator remains valid for the entire period. To see the upper limit of the database size, enter the expected
maximum values.
The fragmentation level of the database is around 50%. Defragmenting the database reduces its size.
The results assume a reasonable number of tasks and events, although the final value does not depend on this assumption.
The calculator presents results for each statistics collection level. If you alter the collection level, the size estimate will be somewhere between the values for
the initial and final collection levels. Changing the collection level temporarily for a limited period (a few days) should not affect the size estimate.
Instructions: Enter the data for your deployment in the highlighted yellow boxes.
The results for each statistics collection level are as follows:
The number of samples collected by vCenter Server every five minutes. This calculation shows the impact of setting a higher statistics
collection level.
The estimated size of the database after 1 year.
The higher and lower bounds on the estimation, assuming a 15% variance.
The amount of space that the temporary database requires during the calculation of rollup values, such as averages. You should allocate this additional
space with the primary vCenter Server database.
