WHAT MAKES US SEE?

LIGHT

Light is a form of energy that is released by the sun,

our lamps, bulbs, phone screens,TV monitors, etc.
Light is a type of electromagnetic radiation.
Electromagnetic radiation is the energy released by all
matter in the form of electromagnetic waves.
Electromagnetic waves are waves formed between
the mutual induction of electric fields and magnetic
fields.

ELECTRICITY
Electricity is the presence and motion of charged particles.
Static electricity is the build up of electric charges on an object.
Electric current is the flow of charged particles around an closed path an
electric circuit.
Current electricity - the continuous flow of electric charge.
Direct current (DC) current in which the electric charges move in one
direction.
Alternating current (AC) current in which the electric charges flow in
one direction, then in the reverse direction, over and over again.

HOW DOES ELECTRICITY GENERATE

MAGNETISM?
By electromagnetic induction the
presence of an electric field generates a
magnetic field

MAKING AN ELECTROMAGNET

HOW DOES MAGNETISM GENERATE

ELECTRICITY?
By electromagnetic induction a changing
magnetic field creates an electric field and if there is
a close circuit, current electricity is generated.

The change can be achieved by changing the

direction of the magnetic field i.e. moving the
magnet or moving the coil.

ELECTRIC GENERATOR

WHAT IS A MOTOR THEN?

Generator mechanical
energy (moving of the
magnet or the coil) to
electrical energy.
Motor - the opposite of a
generator;
converts
electrical
energy
to
mechanical energy.
