General description
Description of the controller system (with all options)
IM-NT controller is comprehensive mains supervision controller for multiple generating sets operating in
parallel to the Mains. A modular construction allow upgrades to different levels of complexity in order to
provide the best solution for various customer applications.
NT Family controllers are equipped with a powerful graphic display showing icons, symbols and bar-graphs
for intuitive operation, which sets, together with high functionality, new standards in Gen-set controls.
The controller automatically connects the group of gen-sets to the Mains. It features mains failure detection
using integrated Mains protections, MCB and MGCB synchronizing, configuration level switches based on
Mains import or object consumption.
The key feature of the controller is its easy-to-use operation and installation. Predefined configurations for
typical applications are available as well as user-defined configurations for special applications.
Hint:
In versions below 2.6 the IM-NT controller does not accept an external bus supply (bus supply which is not
controlled by a ComAp controller).
Gensets have to be in AUTO mode to ensure proper MGCB function.

Functions
OFF-MAN-AUT mode
OFF mode
InteliMains NT has no influence at gen-set group.
If mains voltage is within limits and no mains alarm is active, MCB is closed after AMF settings:MCB close
del if AMF settings:MCB opens on = MAINS FAIL. If AMF settings:MCB opens on = GEN RUNNING, MCB
stays closed all the time, regardless of the mains condition.
MCB application - if the controller is switched to OFF mode while the gen-sets are running and there is
voltage on the bus, MCB is not closed before bus voltage disappears.
MGCB application if the controller is switched to OFF mode while the gen-sets are running and there is
voltage on the bus, MGCB is opened and after AMF settings:FwRet break MCB is closed (if there is Mains
voltage).
Binary output Sys start/stop is not active.

MAN mode
It is possible to close/open breakers manually under supervision of IM-NT controller which doesnt allow to
close simultaneously breakers without synchronizing (e.g. MCB and MGCB).
If the Mains fails, controller opens MCB if AMF settings:MCB opens on = MAINS FAIL. After the Mains
returns, MCB stays opened. Otherwise MCB is controlled manually by pressing MCB ON/OFF button or
closing MCBButton binary input.
MGCB application if the Mains fails, group of gen-sets is started and there is voltage on the bus, MGCB
can be closed anytime by pressing MGCB ON/OFF button.
Pressing of Start/Stop buttons closes/opens binary output Sys start/stop, i.e. cause start/stop of the gen-set
group.

AUT mode
Controller performs automatically sequences after Mains failure, closing/opening MCB and MGCB, Peak
shaving function, closing of Sys start/stop binary output.
MCB is opened according to setpoint AMF settings:MCB opens on after Mains failure or after the gen-sets
are running.
MGCB is closed after the start of gen-set group as soon as an appropriate load reserve is achieved (Syst res
OK binary output closed).
Controller reacts on binary input Rem start/stop if this input is closed, controller activates binary output Sys
start/stop in order to start gen-set group. In MGCB application MGCB can be closed before the output
activation (see also setpoint ProcessControl:MGCBparalClose).

TEST mode
MCB application
Test on load automatic start of the gen-sets (activation of binary output Sys start/stop), load takeover and
opening of MCB; if the Mains fails during test, load is transferred to the gen-sets
MGCB application
Engine Start Only start of the gen/sets and their synchronization on generator bus; after pressing MGCB
ON/OFF button, it is synchronized and load is transferred to gen-sets; after pressing MCB ON/OFF button
MCB is opened and MGCB stays closed, gen-sets running in Island
Test on load MGCB is closed, gen-sets synchronized to the bus, load transferred to gen-sets and MCB
opened
Return to Mains is influenced by setpoint AMF settings:ReturnTo mains:
DISABLED after the Mains return, load remains on the gen-sets
ENABLED after the Mains return, synchronizes MCB, transfers load to the Mains, MGCB opens and gensets keep running unloaded

Running hours balancing

The gen-sets priorities are automatically swapped to balance engine running hours. Up to 32 controllers are
supported.
Activation: #PriorAutoSwap = RUN HOURS EQU
Important setpoints: RunHoursBase , #RunHrsMaxDiff

Different sized engines (Load demand) swap

Three running engines (priorities) are swapped based on load demand (one small engine runs on small
load and swaps to another one big engine that runs when load increases).
Activation: #PriorAutoSwap = LD DEMAND SWAP

13

Pwr management of splitted group

Important setpoints: Control group, GroupLinkLeft, GroupLinkRight
When a Bus-tie disconnects the gen-set group the Power management can operate separately on each of
them.

Load shedding
All LOAD SHED outputs are activated (closed) to trip the unessential load when gen-set group goes to
island:
a) Before MGCB closes after mains fail and gen-set group is instructed to start in AUT mode (MGCB
application only).
b) Before first GCB closes after mains fail and gen-set group is instructed to start in AUT mode (MCB
application only).
c) When MCB opens from parallel to mains operation in AUT mode (transit to island parallel operation)
d) Before MCB is opened in MAN mode by button (transit to island parallel operation).
The load shedding function is active in all controller modes except OFF. Load shedding works based on
mains import value or the total gen-set group active power (setpoint LdShedBased on).
Load shedding has three steps and each step is linked with its own Load shed x binary output. There is only
one load shed level and delay for all three steps as well as recon level and delay. Load shed can only move
from one step to the next, e.g. No LoadShed to LdShed S1 to LdShed S2 to LdShed S3 and vice versa.
If manual reconnection of the load is desired, the AutoLd recon setpoint needs to be disabled (AutoLd recon
= DISABLED) and the MAN load recon binary input needs to be configured.
Rising edge on this input resets the controller to a lower stage, but only if the load is under the Ld recon level
at that moment.

Hint:
If no Load Shedding outputs are configured, there is no record to history and no scrren timer indication of the
activity of this function.

Binary Inputs - Control

Rem start/stop
If the input closes (AUT mode only), the controller activates the binary output Sys start/stop in order to start
the gen-set group (to enable the start setpoint ProcessControl:ParallelEnable should not be set to NO). In
MGCB application, the MGCB can be closed before the output activation (see setpoint description
ProcessControl:MGCBparalClose).

AccessLock int
If the input is closed, no setpoints can be adjusted from the controller front panel.
Hint:
For IS-NT, this input is controlling the display #1, which is supposed to be attached to or close to the main
module.
As the controller mode (OFF-MAN-AUT-TEST) is one of the setpoints, not even that can be changed.
The START, STOP, FAULT RESET and other control buttons are disabled as well.

AccessLock D#2
If the input is closed, no setpoints can be adjusted and no commands can be issued from IG/IS-Display #2.
Hint:
It is not possible to start and stop the gen-set, change controller mode or control breaker.

AccessLock ext
If the input is closed, no setpoints can be adjusted and no commands can be issued from any external
terminal = via direct/modem/internet connection to the controller.
Hint:
IM-NT MCB, MGCB, SW Version 2.6, ComAp May 2010,

IM-NT-MCB-MGCB-2.6.PDF

26

Use these inputs to lock out the selected terminals for setpoint changes and commands (statistic, password
and access code change). Such a terminal can only be used for monitoring.

Remote OFF
Active binary input forces the controller mode to OFF.
Hint:
Use this input to lock out the IM-NT control loops. The only active function (in MCB, MGCB applications) is
closing of the MCB if healthy mains voltage is sensed and there is no counter voltage on the gen-set side;
and vice versa, opening of the MCB if mains voltage fails (only if some other conditions are met).

Remote MAN
Active binary input forces the controller mode to MAN.

Remote AUT
Active binary input forces the controller mode to AUT.
Hint:
Use this input to switch the controller to automatic operation, e.g. using the external key switch.

Remote TEST
Active binary input forces the controller mode to TEST.
Hint:
Use this input for periodic gen-set group tests (in combination with Timer module). In this case the IM-NT
output Sys start/stop is activated, which on the other side should be connected to all gen-set controllers Sys
start/stop inputs to ensure their start for the test purposes.

Force block 1-3

Inputs for user-specific blocking of programmable protections. If the particular input is active, all the
protections with the corresponding Force block X block type are blocked.

Load res 2
Load res 3
Load res 4
If the input Load res X is closed, the setpoint set #LoadResStrt X + #LoadResStop X (#%LdResStrt X +
#%LdResStop X) will be selected. Higher index has higher priority when more these binary inputs are closed
together. When not configured or not active, setpoint set #LoadResStrt 1 + #LoadResStop 1(#%LdResStrt 1
+ #%LdResStop 1) is used.
Hint:
IM-NT uses these signals for display purposes only, i.e. for correct bargraph indication. Nevertheless, IM-NT
is a suitable controller to be the source of Load res X and MinRun power X signals for the rest of the system,
if a virtual periphery is used.
All controllers operating in Power management must have selected the same Load reserves.
It is possible to use Virtual periphery to share the signals between more controllers on the CAN bus. In this
case one controller is a server which physically has the signals connected and other controllers get these
signals via CAN bus.
Setpoint set selection depends on the #Pwr mgmt mode if set to ABS (kW or kVA), #LoadResStrt X type
setpoints are active, if set to REL (%), #%LdResStrt X type setpoints are active.

GroupLink
If this input is configured, the group linking function is active, i.e. this controller becomes the status server for
two groups of gen-sets and informs them about the BTB status.
If this input is closed, the controller reports BTB status as closed, if open, the controller reports open BTB
status.
Hint:
In MCB and MGCB application, this input is present from compatibility purposes only. It can report a BTB
status, however InteliMains will most likely not be the controller to control that breaker.
IM-NT MCB, MGCB, SW Version 2.6, ComAp May 2010,

IM-NT-MCB-MGCB-2.6.PDF

27

In BTB application, on the other hand, this is one of the most important logical inputs, which should be
connected to the feedback of the controlled BTB. Knowing the state of its BTB, the controller can report this
state to all other gen-set controllers on the CAN bus in order to merge / split the logical CAN groups. See
also setpoints ControlGroup, GroupLinkLeft, GroupLinkRight.

Emerg. Manual
The controller behaves like when switched to OFF mode if this input is closed. Controller opens binary
outputs or stays inactive:
Binary outputs Power management (Sys start/stop, SysReady, Sys res OK, Sys res 1 OK, Sys res
2 OK, Sys res 3 OK, Sys res 4 OK),
Binary outputs Breaker control (MCB close/open, MCB ON coil, MCB OFF coil, MCB UV coil,
MGCB ON coil, MGCB OFF coil, MGCB UV coil, BTB close/open, BTB ON coil, BTB OFF coil, BTB
UV coil)
Binary outputs Fixed protection outputs (Horn, Alarm, Alarm flashing, Horn flashing, Common
Wrn, Common MPR, Common Fls, Common MP, Common Al, Common Hst, CommonActLev 1,(2),
CommonAlLev1,(2)).
The output terminals that are configured with inversion are closed. Voltage, current and power
measurement is active all the time, regardless of the actual state of the mains. It is possible to
influence breaker under IM-NT supervision without Wrn MCB fail or Wrn MGCB fail.
After the binary input EMERG. MANUAL is open again, the controller recovers to the previous mode
and behaves according to the actual situation. Function is active in any controller mode and
activation of this input is written to history.
Hint:
The function is intended especially for Marine gen-sets which are supposed to be started manually
while the controller has no power supply. To recover successfully from this state, only the signals
MCB ON/OFF coil should be used for mains and breaker control, as the other outputs are continuous
active during Mains operation and it is not possible to switch them between more control sources.
The full name of this function is emergency manual.
Be aware that all outputs related to PLC functions remain functional!

FaultResButton
Binary input has the same function as Fault reset button on the controller front panel.

HornResButton
Binary input has the same function as Horn reset button on the controller front panel.

StartButton
Binary input has the same function as START button on the controller front panel. It is active in MAN mode
only.

StopButton
Binary input has the same function as STOP button on the controller front panel. It is active in MAN mode
only.
Hint:
Start and Stop buttons (or inputs) in MAN mode toggle the gen-set group start command signal (BO Sys
start/stop) that is output from IM-NT.
Setpoint Basic settings: Local Button can influence button functionality.

MCBButton
Binary input has the same function as MCB button on the controller front panel. It is active in MAN and
TEST modes only. In TEST mode in some special cases only (see description TEST mode).

MGCBButton MGCB application only

Binary input has the same function as MGCB button on the controller front panel. It is active in MAN and
TEST modes only. In TEST mode in some special cases only (see description TEST mode).
IM-NT MCB, MGCB, SW Version 2.6, ComAp May 2010,

IM-NT-MCB-MGCB-2.6.PDF

28

Hint:
All Binary inputs, which simulate controller front panel buttons, are edge (no level) sensitive, and they react
on the rising edge only.

ManualLdRecon
The rising edge on this input switches the controller to the lower Load Shedding stage when AutoLd recon =
DISABLED and the load is under Ld recon level.

Test on load
Affects the behavior in TEST mode. Before the activation of this function
1. adjust setpoint AMF settings: ReturnTo mains = DISABLED (MGCB application only)
2. adjust ProcessControl: MFStart enable = YES.
3. switch controller to Test on load mode (see drawing below)
Gen-set group starts and goes to load (in MGCB application, the MGCB is closed first; the gen-sets are
synchronized to the mains and close their GCBs) automatically when this input is closed even if Mains is OK.
Gen-set group stays running in parallel with mains during the soft load transfer from the mains to the gen-set
group until Import power = 0. When the load is bigger than the sum of Nominal power of all loaded gen-sets,
MCB stays closed, BO WrnTstOnLdFail is closed and warning message is issued (WrnTstOnLdFail).
MCB application:
When the controller is switched from Test on load mode (and Mains is OK), it synchronizes the MCB and
switches off the Sys start/stop output.
MGCB application:
When the controller is switched from Test on load mode (and Mains is OK), it synchronizes the MCB, stays
running in parallel for BreakerOverlap time (soft load transfer), opens MGCB and switches off the Sys
start/stop output.
During the load transfer from the gen-set group to the mains can the BreakerOverlap time be shortened due
to the influence of: Load ramp, MGCB open level, MGCB open del setpoints.

MCB disable
The input blocks the MCB closing, even if all other conditions for its closing are fulfilled. Valid in all modes.

MGCB disable MGCB application only

The input blocks the MGCB closing, even if all other conditions for its closing are fulfilled. Valid in all modes.

Force sync MCB application only

The controller will react on this input only if it is in AUT ctrl (FOLLOW).
If the input is closed, controller will start to synchronize to the voltages measured at mains and bus terminals
(or BusLeft and BusRight for BTB application), regardless of the actual state of breaker feedbacks.
Hint:
The synchronization will start only if it is allowed by actual setting of Synchro enable.

Alt brightness
Active binary input switches controller display backlight to the alternative setting. Alternative intensity of the
backlight can be set independently using controller panel buttons.

ExtValue1 up
ExtValue2 up
ExtValue3 up
ExtValue4 up
Active binary input causes increasing of the corresponding ExtValueX value. The rate of change is given by
the setpoint ExtValueX rate. If the ExtValueX reaches the ExtValueXHiLim, the further input request is
ignored.

ExtValue1 down
ExtValue2 down
ExtValue3 down
ExtValue4 down
Active binary input causes decreasing of the corresponding ExtValueX value. The rate of change is given by
the setpoint ExtValueX rate. If the ExtValueX reaches the ExtValueXLoLim, the further input request is
ignored.
Hint:
If at least one of the inputs (ExtValueX up / ExtValueX down) is configured for the particular ExtValueX, the
external set commands to the same value are ignored.

ExtValue1reset
ExtValue2reset
ExtValue3reset
ExtValue4reset
Active binary input causes ExtValueX to be reset and held at its default value, given by the setpoint
ExtValueXdeflt.
Hint:
These inputs, if configured, do not block the external set commands (in contrast to ExtValueX up / ExtValueX
down inputs). However, if the reset input is activated, the corresponding ExtValueX is reset to its default
(ExtValueXdeflt) value. This default value is kept in ExtValueX until the reset input is deactivated, and the
external set commands received meanwhile are ignored.

PulseCounter 1
PulseCounter 2
PulseCounter 3
PulseCounter 4
The inputs are linked with corresponding counters, which integrate the pulses sensed at these inputs. Each
rising edge of the signal at input increases the internal counter value.
Hint:
Pulse width (both high/low levels) must be at least 100 ms in order to be correctly sensed!
Conversion ratio can be selected using the setpoints ConvCoefPulseX. The converted values are visible in
statistics values PulseCounter X. These values can be reset using Statistics window in InteliMonitor.

IssueActCallC1
IssueActCallC2
IssueActCallC3
Rising edge on these binary inputs forces an active call to be issued via the corresponding channel.
Hint:
Can be used to send e.g. an SMS in the case of a special event, not covered with standard Active Calls.

Binary inputs Status information

MCB feedback
Mains Circuit Breaker positive feedback input (closed if MCB is closed). This is a primary source for the
controller about the status of the MCB.
Hint:
The controller decides based on this signal whether the gen-set group is running in mains parallel or in island
parallel operation. Obviously, in MGCB application this depends on the status of MGCB as well.

MCB fdb neg

Mains Circuit Breaker negative feedback input (closed if MCB is open). Additional signal, can be used if both
positive and negative feedback signals are available from the breaker.
Hint:
If both feedbacks are used and there is a mismatch between these signals, longer than 500 ms, a MCB fail
alarm is activated.

MGCB feedback MGCB application only

Master Generator Circuit Breaker positive feedback input (closed if MGCB is closed). This is a primary
source for the controller about the status of the MGCB.

MGCB fdb neg MGCB application only

Generator Circuit Breaker negative feedback input (closed if GCB is open). Additional signal, can be used if
both positive and negative feedback signals are available from the breaker.
Hint:
If both feedbacks are used and there is a mismatch between these signals, longer than 500 ms, a MGCB fail
alarm is activated.

ForceValueIn 1-16
If the particular input is active, the Force value function on that corresponding channel gets active, forcing an
alternative value to the selected setpoint.
Hint:
If ForceValue input is active then forced setpoint is marked with F on the controler screen and in
InteliMonitor is presented with violet color.

Timer block 1-16

Blocking inputs for particular timer module channels. The input can lock out its assigned channel if this
input is active, the channel wont activate its output (Timer active X) to e.g. start the engine.

CtrlHBeat sens
BI "CtrlHBeat sens" should be assigned to the output "CtrlHeartBeat" from the other controller. If input signal
does not correspond to right form (log 1 / log 0 - 500 ms / 500 ms; +/- 100 ms), BO: "CtrlHBeat FD" (Fail
Detect) is activated. This BO can be used for primary controller blocking (switching to Emerg. manual,
disconnecting BO, ...) and mainly for disconnecting of BI "Emerg. manual" of this (backup) controller. What
means that the backup controller assumes engine control.

Time stamp act

Binary input activates time stamp writing to history depending on Date/Time:Time stamp act and Time stamp
per setpoints.

Binary outputs Breaker control

MCB close/open
The output controls the mains circuit breaker. It is intended for contactors provides a continual active signal
if MCB should be closed.
Hint:
Use binary output inversion (in GenConfig during configuration) to achieve that closed output = breaker
opened. External relay logic can assure closed MCB in the case of controllers power supply loss.

MCB ON coil
The pulse output for MCB closing. If MCB synchronizing is enabled, the pulse length is 2s, if not, pulse
length is 5s.
Hint:
ON coil can only be closed if UV coil is already active for at least 1s.

MCB OFF coil

The pulse output for MCB opening. If MCB synchronizing is enabled, the pulse length is 2s, if not, pulse
length is 5s.

MCB UV coil
MCB undervoltage coil. Output is closed if mains values are within limits and MCB is ready to be closed. It is
opened if MCB should be open, and then closed again if mains electric values are in limits. If MCB
synchronizing is enabled, the opening pulse length is 2s, if not, pulse length is 5s.

MCB status
Intended for the indication of the MCB status. The information is based on MCB feedback and MCB fdb neg
signals except of situation of feedbacks mismatch.
Can be used for external indication of breaker status according to controllers information.

GCB disable MCB application only

This output can be used for MCB x GCBs interlock in the case of an MCB controlled from the 230 V. The
typical sequence after the mains fail, when GCB disable output is important, is shown below:
Mains fails, MCB cannot be opened as there is no voltage to open it (setpoint MCB opens on = GEN
RUNNING).
Output GCB disable is connected to inputs GCB disable in gen-set controllers to block their closing to a dead
bus with MCB still closed; virtual periphery can be used to distribute the GCB disable signal.
Output GCB disable gets active together with the Sys start/stop output (command from IM-NT to start the
gen-set group after the mains fail).
As soon as the gen-sets start, their voltage can be used to open the MCB; the GCB disable signal
deactivates (with a delay FwRet break after the MCB has been opened), enabling the GCB closing in genset controllers.

MGCBclose/open MGCB application only

The output controls the master generator circuit breaker. It is intended for contactors provides a continual
active signal if MGCB should be closed.

MGCB ON coil MGCB application only

The pulse output for MGCB closing. If MGCB synchronizing is enabled, the pulse length is 2s, if not, pulse
length is 5s.
Hint:
ON coil can only be closed if UV coil is already active for at least 1s.

MGCB OFF coil MGCB application only

The pulse output for MGCB opening. If MGCB synchronizing is enabled, the pulse length is 2s, if not, pulse
length is 5s.

MGCB UV coil MGCB application only

MGCB undervoltage coil. Output is closed if bus values are within limits (i.e. at least one GCB has been
closed) and MGCB is ready to be closed. It is opened if MGCB should be open, and then closed again if bus
electric values are in limits. If MGCB synchronizing is enabled, the opening pulse length is 2s, if not, pulse
length is 5s.

MGCB status MGCB application only

Intended for the indication of the MGCB status. The information is based on MGCB feedback and MGCB fdb
neg signals except of situation of feedbacks mismatch.

Binary outputs Power management

Sys start/stop
The output serves for easy interfacing with IG/IS-NT controllers. It can be directly connected to their Sys
start/stop inputs which serve to control a group of gen-sets.
The signal can get active:
a) If binary input Rem start/stop gets active (AUT mode only).
b) If AMF condition is sensed in IM-NT and the gen-set group should be started as stand-by power
source (AUT mode only).
c) If PeakShaving function senses that it is suitable to start the gen-set group in order to lower the
mains import (AUT mode only).
d) If Start button is pressed on IM-NT front panel or remotely (MAN mode only). The signal can be
deactivated by pressing the Stop button. If the controller is switched from AUT to MAN mode, the
internal status of the flip-flop circuit created by Start-Stop buttons is set to follow the previous state in
AUT mode. E.g. if the gen-set group has run in an AMF situation in AUT mode, switching to MAN will
not stop it (= Sys start/stop output stays active).
The signal can get inactive:
a) If binary inpu Rem start/stop gets inactive (AUT mode only)
b) If mains is recovered and after MCB is clossed (synchro enable). If Synchro enable = none than Sys
start/stop signal gets inactive after mains is recovered.
c) If required power is under PeakLevelStop during PeakAutS/S del Sys start/stop gets inactive.
d) If STOP button is pressed on IM-NT front panel or remotely (MAN mode only). Sys start/stop button
stayed in the previous state despite of mode changing.
Hint:
For MGCB application - in a) and c) cases, before the output Sys start/stop is activated, the MGCB close
command is issued. This makes it easier to bring the gen-sets to the mains-parallel operation.
If MGCB should stay open until all required gen-sets are synchronized on the generator bus (without load),
adjust the setpoint MGCBparalClose to NO.

SystReady
The output is closed when the system is able to reach (not reached !) requested power reserve.

Setpoints
Password protection
Any setpoint can be password protected - 7 levels of password is available. The password is a four-digit
number. Only setpoints associated with the entered password level can be modified.
Even though one level may have been set from the front panel, the affected setpoints are not
accessible from InteliMonitor (direct or Modem) until this level is set in IMON.
Setpoints opened from front panel are automatically closed 15 minutes after the last key has been
pressed or when wrong value of password is set.
Any password can be changed once that level password or higher has been entered. The controller
programming (configuration) requires the highest - password 7 level.

ProcessControl
#SysBaseLoad

[ kW ]

From this value, the requested gen-set load is calculated, according to the number of gen-sets running (to
split the load among them based on their nominal power). The complete system produces the power equal to
this value. Active only when SysLdCtrl PtM = BASELOAD.
Step:
1 kW
Range:
0 65000 kW
Hint:
Setpoints starting with # are shared among all the controllers on the CAN2 bus, so changing the value in
one controller causes its change in all controllers. These setpoints are mainly present in IM-NT from
compatibility purposes only and have no meaning. Others have different meaning than in IG/IS-NT
controllers.
If you set this setpoint to a higher value than the system is able to produce, the total produced power is
limited with the sum of Nomin power setpoints of all gen-sets in the system.
The same holds for the lower limit - the gen-set power is limited to Generator protect: Min power PtM, and
IM-NT cannot force the gen-set to go under this limit, even if set in #SysBaseLoad setpoint.

#SysPwrFactor

[ ]

Requested gen-set power factor when #SysPFCtrl PtM = BASEPF. Values 0,60 0,99 correspond to lagging
(inductive, L) PF, 1,01 1,20 correspond to leading (capacitive, C) PF.
Step:
0,01
Range:
0,60 - 1,20
Hint:
Active PF control loop in IG/IS-NT controllers only, not in IM-NT.

#SysLdCtrl PtM
BASELOAD

LDSHARING

[ BASELOAD / LDSHARING ]

The gen-set is a part of the System delivered power control (#SysBaseLoad) and produces
a certain part of it, according to the actual number of running gen-sets and self Nomin
power. This option is only active in parallel with mains, in island parallel operation the mode
is always internally set to LDSHARING.
The gen-set load is shared with other gen-sets according to the actual load. For IM-NT, this
means it is able to influence

Hint:
BASE LOAD mode means that IM-NT speed/power control loops are switched off and only the control loops
in IG/IS-NT controllers are active.

#SysPFCtrl PtM
BASEPF

[ BASEPF / VSHARING ]

The gen-set power factor is controlled to a preadjusted level Process control:

#SysPwrFactor. This option is only active in parallel with mains, in island parallel operation
the mode is always internally set to VSHARING.
The power factor is equalized with other gen-sets according to the actual reactive load.

VSHARING
Hint:
BASE PF mode means that IM-NT voltage/power factor control loops are switched off and only the control
loops in IG/IS-NT controllers are active.

Import load

[ kW ]

Requested power from / to mains when MLoad ctrl PtM = IMP/EXP or when Export limitation function is
active i.e. Export limit = ENABLED.
Step:
1 kW
Range:
-32000kW to +32000 kW

Import PF

Requested power factor on the mains side when MPF ctrl PtM = IMP/EXP. Value bigger than 1.00 means
capacitive PF (leading) load character.
Step:

Range:
0.60 to 1.20

MLoad ctrl PtM

[ SYSBLD->LS / ANEXSYSBLD->LS / IMP/EXP / ANEXT

IMP/EXP / T BY PWR ]
(FV)

MLoad ctrl PtM selects control mode for parallel to mains operation. Any of modes listed below requires the
setpoint #SysLdCtrl PtM = LDSHARING.
SYSBLD->LS:
Gen-set group is loaded at preadjusted level given by ProcessControl:
#SysBaseLoad, but controlled via IM-NT power control loop and subsequently Load
Sharing line. This enables the Export limit function to be used in IM-NT.
ANEXSYSBLD->LS: Gen-set group is loaded according to the requested value given by an external device
via Analog input MLC:AnExSysBld (configured in IM-NT). This enables IM-NT to
control the gen-sets via the Load Sharing line. Optionally, Export limit function can be
used.
IMP/EXP:
Gen-set group is loaded according to imported/exported power from/to mains to
achieve ProcessControl: Import load. However, in some cases the requested value
would bring the gen-sets to overload or reverse power, so their requested power
would be limited and consequently Import load not matched.
ANEXT IMP/EXP:
Gen-set group is loaded according to imported/exported power from/to mains to
achieve the requested value given by an external device via Analog input
MLC:AnExI/E. However, in some cases the requested value would bring the gen-sets
to overload or reverse power, so their requested power would be limited and
consequently the value given by the analog input not matched.
T BY PWR:
Gen-set group power is changed to keep required temperature, measured via an
analog input (configured in IM-NT). Optionally, Export limit function can be used.

Soft Unload

[ STANDARD / AuxCTGen / AuxCTLoad ]

This setpoint defines the way of evaluation of unloaded state for MGCB opening. It is useful especially for
multimains systems where a group of gensets supplies more loads:
STANDARD: The MGCB is opened at the moment when TotRunPact value is lower than MGCB open lev
or after MGCB open del elapsed. In multimains systems this can lead to the situation when
loads are supplied from one Mains incomer while the gensets are unloaded and at the
moment when corresponding MGCB is opened the gensets receive jump load from other
loads. To avoid this situation there are two other modes of operation.
AuxCTGen:
Auxiliary current measurement (AUX CURRENT terminal) can be used to measure actual
current through MGCB to enable to regulate the incoming power from the Mains and from
the gensets in the way that gensets stop supplying respective load but continue supplying
other load in the system. The CT is expected to be placed between MGCB and bus. The
MGCB is opened when the power over MGCB counted from this auxiliary current and
voltage is lower than MGCB open lev or after MGCB open del elapsed.

IM-NT MCB, MGCB, SW Version 2.6, ComAp May 2010,

IM-NT-MCB-MGCB-2.6.PDF

46

AuxCTLoad:

Auxiliary current measurement (AUX CURRENT terminal) can be used to measure actual
current to the load to enable to regulate the incoming power from the Mains and from the
gensets in the way that gensets stop supplying respective load but continue supplying other
load in the system. The CT is expected to be placed on load connection. The MGCB is
opened when the power to the load counted from this auxiliary current and voltage is lower
than Mains import power plus MGCB open lev or after MGCB open del elapsed.

MPF ctrl PtM

[ IMP/EXP / ANEXT IMP/EXP ]

(FV)

MPF ctrl PtM selects control mode of power factor for parallel to mains operation. Any of modes listed below
requires the setpoint #SysPFCtrl PtM = VSHARING.
IMP/EXP:
Gen-set group power factor is controlled according to imported/exported power factor
at the mains side to achieve ProcessControl: Import PF. However, in some cases
the requested value would bring the gen-sets out of the range 0.6L 0.8C, so their
requested power factor would be limited and consequently Import PF not matched.
ANEXT IMP/EXP:
Gen-set group power factor is controlled according to imported/exported power factor
at the mains side to achieve the requested value given by an external device via
Analog input MPF:AnExI/E. However, in some cases the requested value would bring
the gen-sets out of the range 0.6L 0.8C, so their requested power factor would be
limited and consequently the value given by the analog input not matched.

I/E-Pm meas

[ NONE / CT INPUTS / ANALOG INPUT ]

Import / Export measurement selection when one of power I/E modes selected.
NONE:
No source for I/E active power measurement available. If selected (and setpoint
#SysLdCtrl PtM = LDSHARING), power control defaults to SysBaseLoad via LS.
IM-NT MCB, MGCB, SW Version 2.6, ComAp May 2010,

IM-NT-MCB-MGCB-2.6.PDF

47

CT INPUTS:
ANALOG INPUT:

I/E-Qm meas

Mains I/E active power (Pm) is measured and calculated from controllers current
terminals.
Mains I/E active power is measured by an external device and the controller measures
this value via analog input MLC:I/E-Pm. In the case of a sensor fail at that analog
input, this setpoint is internally re-adjusted to NONE position.

[ NONE / CT INPUTS / ANALOG INPUT ]

Import / Export measurement selection when one of PF I/E modes selected.

NONE:
No source for I/E reactive power measurement available. If selected (and setpoint
#SysPFCtrl PtM = VSHARING), power factor control in IM-NT is internally switched to
keep the gen-set group at #SysPwrFactor value. This is to suppress uncontrolled
drifting of the gen-set group in parallel to the mains operation.
CT INPUTS:
Mains I/E reactive power (Qm) is measured and calculated from controllers current
terminals.
ANALOG INPUT:
Mains I/E reactive power is measured by an external device and the controller
measures this value via analog input MPF:I/E-Qm. In the case of a sensor fail at that
analog input, this setpoint is internally re-adjusted to NONE position.
Hint:
Setpoints I/E-Pm meas and I/E-Qm meas are internally interlocked. That means if at least one of them is set
to CT INPUTS, both Pm and Qm are measured using controllers CT inputs, regardless of the setting of the
other setpoint.
In other words, either CT INPUTS option is active for both measurements, or these combinations are
allowed: NONE+NONE, ANALOG INPUT+NONE, NONE+ANALOG INPUT, ANALOG INPUT+ANALOG
INPUT.

No synchronizing is enabled.
REVERSE:
MCB synchronizing is enabled.

MFStart enable

[ NO / YES ]

(FV)

NO, YES:
Enables or disables automatic mains failure start command to gen-set group.
Hint:
The AMF function activates the common output signal Sys start/stop in IM-NT. The signal is intended to be
directly connected to Sys start/stop inputs of all gen-set controllers in the system, e.g. using
SHBIN/SHBOUT peripherals.

MGCBparalClose

[ NO / YES / MCB CLOSED] (FV)

MGCB application only

IM-NT MCB, MGCB, SW Version 2.6, ComAp May 2010,

IM-NT-MCB-MGCB-2.6.PDF

49

NO, YES:

Enables or disables automatic MGCB closing in the case that the Sys start/stop output is
activated.
In AUT mode, if the gen-set group is about to be started to mains-parallel operation, it is
suitable to close the MGCB first. The gen-sets then synchronize with the generator bus and
directly with the mains (both MCB and MGCB are closed). If this is not desired (from
whatever reason), the function can be blocked by adjusting this setpoint to NO. In that case,
the gen-sets are synchronized on the generator bus first (without load), and only after that
the MGCB synchronizing starts.

MCB CLOSED: Enables automatic MGCB closing after MCB is closed with 5s delay (In AUTO mode). If
Mains fail MGCB is opened after MCB is opened. When Synchronizing is enabled group of
gen-set is synchronized via MCB to the healthy mains. MGCB is closed only if 0V is on genset bus bar and GCBs are opened. Return without synchronization follows with MGCB
opening running group of gen-set are stopped and MCB is closed.
Hint:
IM-NT cannot influence behavior of another control unit that is in MAN mode. It is dangerous to close
GCB on gen-set in MAN mode while parallel operation is disabled. IM-NT react on this with opening
MGCB but it could take short time till it received feedback from GCB and MGCB breaker is
automatically opened.
Connecting of a genset with non-ComAp controller to a common bus
In version 2.5 it was not possible to close MGCB in case that all ComAp genset controllers were switched off
and there was another (hire) genset supplying voltage to the bus bar.
From version 2.6 the IM-NT closes MGCB based on voltage present on the bus (provided that load reserve
is fulfilled) and is not checking the presence of IGS-NTs. For proper functionality in parallel to Mains
operation it is then necessary that the MGCBparalClose setpoint is set to YES.

MinPwr PtM

[%]

(FV)

Specifies the minimal power that must be exported to the Mains in percentage of the sum of nominals of all
running engines (TotRunPnom value).
Step:
1%
Range:
0 100 %

AUT ctrl mode

[ NORMAL / COX (FOLLOW) ]

NORMAL:

The controller in AUT mode works with all delays specified in setpoints and provides
automatic state transfers according to the settings.
COX (FOLLOW):The controller in AUT mode follows the states specified externally (e.g. breaker feedback
active or not) and reacts only on input command Force sync. According to the actual
controller state, the respective power control loop is active. This IM-NT behaviour is similar
to the behaviour of IG/IS-NT COX application.
Hint:
This setpoint is in MCB application only.

Mains coupling
ENABLED:

DISABLED:

[ ENABLED / DISABLED]

(FV)

The process of connecting a healthy mains to a bus, energized by another mains, provided
by IM-NT controller is allowed. The bus is energized either using another IM-NT controller,
connected by CAN bus to the IM-NT in charge. During mains coupling, it is possible that one
or more gen-sets are connected to the bus in parallel-to-mains operation, which can not be
affected by the IM-NT in charge. During mains coupling, the control of gen-set controllers
from IM-NT in charge by means of digital load sharing and VAr-sharing line is not used, and
only passive check of voltage-matching conditions is provided. In case that the voltagematching conditions are fulfilled (phase, slip frequency, voltage match, dwell time), the MCB
or MGCB, if appropriate, is closed.
The controller blocks the MCB or MGCB closing in this situation.

Hint:
General rules:
In OFF mode, the mains coupling functionality is disabled.
IM-NT MCB, MGCB, SW Version 2.6, ComAp May 2010,

IM-NT-MCB-MGCB-2.6.PDF

50

Once the MCB or MGCB is closed using Mains coupling functionality and later the Process control:
Mains coupling is set to DISABLED, the breaker is not opened.
If the voltage on any side of the breaker gets out of protection limits during mains coupling, the
process is terminated automatically.
In case that at least one gen-set is connected to the generator bus, the limitations and rules of
interconnecting the generators and mains feeder are in effect as described in the manual on page 7,
regardless of whether the secondary mains is connected to the generator bus or not. This applies
e.g. to the setting of Process control: Island enable, ParallelEnable, Synchro enable, etc.
The controller can sense that a particular bus side is connected to the mains from the information provided
by other controllers at the same CAN bus.
In AUT mode, the process is fully automatic. In MAN mode, the controller will only react on the button
command if the transition based on this setpoint is allowed.

WatchedContr

[0-16]

The setpoint specifies which controller will be set as a master in redundant control operation. Control
unit follows all inputs and it is in the same state as the master unit. All binary outputs are opened,
CAN bus messages are not transmitted from slave unit and all other units know about this state.
Slave control unit does not work in power management (is removed from PWR management).
Setpoint is ignored till Emerg. Manual binary input is not activated.
Hint:
Activation of Emerg. Manual operation is possible only when Binary input Emerg. Manual is active
and WatchedContr is set to 0! Binary input Emerg. Man deactivation brings controller to the previous
operation mode (depends on actual state of feedbacks and inputs).
In the case when Binary input Emerg. Manual is activated and WatchedContr is differnet from 0 then
control units follows Master unit and receives all messages from the CAN bus.

54

RS485(1) conv.

[ DISABLED / ENABLED ]

If set to ENABLED, the communication RS232(1) port is redirected to the built-in RS485 converter. That
means the remote display RS485 line (for IG-Display connection) is blocked and the converter is used for
communication with superior system or ECU.
Available in all controllers except of IS-NT.
Hint:
Applicable only for DIRECT, MODBUS-DIRECT and ECU LINK modes.
This converter is not isolated!

CAN bus mode

[ 32C / 8C ]

ResetActAlarms

[ DISABLED / ENABLED ]

DISABLED:
If Fault reset is activated (from any source), only inactive (normally displayed) alarms are
reset. So only inactive alarms can be cleared from the Alarmlist.
ENABLED:
If Fault reset is activated (from any source), all currently present (including inverse displayed
= active) alarms are reset (asterisk in Alarmlist disappears for all present alarms). I.e. after an active (inverse
displayed) alarm later on becomes inactive (normally displayed), it is cleared automatically from the Alarmlist
if previously reset.
Hint:
ENABLED mode corresponds to the way that IG and IS controllers (classic line) handled the alarms.

Maximal Reaction time

Reaction time

The maximum input range of the controller current terminals is 11 Amps. Anything over this
value is displayed as measured limit, e.g. 15 Amps from CT is measured and displayed as 11
Amps.
Take special care when selecting CTs. All available 5 Amp CTs do not have a range up to 11
Amps.

VectorS prot
DISABLED:
PARALLEL ONLY:

[ DISABLED / PARALLEL ONLY / ENABLED ] (FV)

Vector shift protection is disabled.
Vector shift protection is enabled only if at least one gen-set is running in parallel
with mains (= MCB+GCB status active; MGCB status in addition for MGCB
application).
Vector shift protection is enabled if MCB status is active.

ENABLED:
Force value: Yes
Hint:
If ENABLED is selected, it is likely that Vector shift protection will trip the MCB before other mains
protections. It senses the fast changes in mains voltage angle position, which occur with every mains failure,
even if the gen-set is not running in parallel with mains.

VectorS CB sel

[ MCB / MGCB ] (FV)

MGCB application only

MCB:
MCB is tripped if Vector shift protection gets active. The loaded gen-set group
passes to the island-parallel operation.
MGCB:
MGCB is tripped if Vector shift protection gets active.
Force value: Yes
Hint:
If MGCB is selected and mains failure comes up, it is likely that MCB trips as well later on because of other
mains protections.
Use MGCB option in the case that the gen-set group is not able to handle the island load and would get
overloaded.

Hint:
To be sure of proper adjusting of VectorS limit, check Max VectorS value on the controller or PC software
screen. Max VectorS value is set to zero when transiting to parallel, and then accumulates the maximum
reached value (positive only) during parallel operation. Thus, during the normal operation, only the
background noise is accumulated (usually max 3), and the protection level should be set to approximately
twice the value of this noise.

Bus protect
Hint:
If bus voltage is measured at the same point by IM-NT and by IGS-NT controllers then it is recommended to
set bus protection setpoints to same values in IM-NT and gen-set controllers. Otherwise it might happen that
there is discordance between evaluation of healthy bus and it can lead to situation that gen-set controllers
realize the bus as healthy but IM-NT prevents reverse synchronizing keeping Sys start/stop to gen-set
controllers active.

MCB opens on

[ MAINSFAIL / GEN RUNNING ]

(FV)

Adjusting of condition when MCB opens after Mains fail:

MAINSFAIL:
Controller opens the MCB when Mains fail is detected (24 VDC controlled circuit breaker or
contactor expected).
GEN RUNNING:
Controller opens the MCB only after at least one gen-set starts, i.e. the generator
voltage is present to open the MCB (230 VAC controlled breaker expected). In OFF
mode, this means MCB stays closed all the time, regardless of the mains condition.
Hint:
Link the output Sys start/stop with the inputs Sys start/stop at the gen-set controllers to achieve the
automatic start. Gen-set controllers have to be in AUT mode in order to react on this input.

ReturnWithIntr

[ ENABLED / DISABLED]

(FV)

ENABLED:

Enables break transfer of the load back to the mains, if reverse synchronizing is not
successful, opens GCB and after FwRet break delay close MCB.
DISABLED:
Gen-set stays running loaded in island when reverse synchronizing is not successful, even if
mains is OK again.
FORCE value possibility:Yes

BreakerOverlap

[ s ] (FV)

MGCB application only

When limited time of running in parallel with mains is required, BreakerOverlap defines max time of running
in parallel with mains. During this time soft transfer of load is activated. Used in AUT and TEST modes.
This setpoint is valid during transfer of load from gen-set to the Mains and also in TEST mode. During
TestOnLoad the gen-sets remain in parallel until imported power from Mains reaches 0 but minimum for
BreakerOverlap time.

Range: 0,0 300,0 s

RetFromIsland
MANUAL:

[ MANUAL / AUTO ]

(FV)

Up to version 2.5.1 - controller is automatically switched to MAN mode on each transition to

Island operation. To activate the load transfer back to mains, the controller must be switched
back to AUT mode.
From version 2.6 - controller remains in AUT mode and the manual return to Mains is done
via MCB button. In case that the gensets fail to supply the load, IM-NT automatically
transfers load to the Mains.

IM-NT MCB, MGCB, SW Version 2.6, ComAp May 2010,

IM-NT-MCB-MGCB-2.6.PDF

64

AUTO:
Load is automatically transferred in AUT mode after Mains return.
Hint:
Select RetFromIsland = MANUAL when it is important at what time the load is transferred back to the mains.
Setting to MANUAL might be important only for applications with break transfers (with synchronizing
disabled).

ReturnTo mains

[ DISABLED / ENABLED ]

(FV)

MGCB application only

The setpoint influences the behavior of the TEST mode. If mains fail occurs during test (or is simulated using
Test on load function), the controller opens the MCB and switches the load to generators.
DISABLED: Now if the mains recovers, the generators stay running loaded until TEST mode is abandoned,
typically to AUT mode where reverse synchronizing and soft unloading follows.
ENABLED:
After the mains recovers, the generators will be reverse synchronized back to the mains,
softly unloaded and remain running without load (MGCB opens) until TEST mode is
abandoned or another mains failure occurs.

Running Hours Equalization mode. All gen-sets in the logical group are kept to
work approximately the same number of running hours. See also setpoints
RunHoursBase and #RunHrsMaxDiff. Up to 32 engines can cooperate in this
mode.
For different sized engines, this mode allows to optimally select the running
engines according to the actual site load. Up to 3 engines can cooperate in this
mode.

[ DISABLED / MASTER ]

(FV)

IM-NT does not provide the AutoSwap functions for other controllers.
At least one controller in the logical group has to be selected as MASTER if some
PriorityAuto Swapping mode is enabled. Only the controller with lowest CAN
address becomes an active master, the other are ignored by SLAVE controllers.
The MASTER controller evaluates the Priority changing for all other controllers in
the group and sends them the forced Priority values.

#OverldNextDel

[s]

The delay before next gen-set start-up in Pwr management when the system load is equal or higher than
nominal power of all gen-sets on the bus.
Delay is not used, when the first gen-set(s) starts. Delay is used only when in island parallel operation, not in
mains parallel.

#SlowStopDel

[s]

When the Slow stop protection occurs, the controller announces to the rest of the system, that the engine is
no more ready.
a) If there are another sets ready to start and supply the load, the protection waits until the substitute engine
starts and connects to the bus. Then the engine with the active Slow stop protection softly unloads, cools
down and stops. The controller waits for substitute engine max for #SlowStopDel time.
b) If there is no other set to start, the protection activates immediately. If soft unload possible (another set is
running or MCB is closed) engine is softly unloaded, if not, GCB opens immediately.
As every protection it has to be reset by operator to get ready again.
Step:

Range: 0 600 s

#MinRunPower 1 (2, 3)

[ kW ]

Following description is valid for gen-set controllers only and has informative character here:
It is minimum required power of gen-set group (sum of Nomin power of running gen-sets). When Binary input
Sys start/stop is closed, starts and stays running such a number of gen-sets to keep selected
#MinRunPower X value. This is independent on load reserves system, so even if there is high load reserve
that would allow to stop some engines, Minimum Running Power system may force them to keep running.
When binary input MinRunPower X is closed, the corresponding #MinRun power X value is selected. When
more binary inputs MinRunPower X are closed, the higher number has higher priority. When no input closed,
no #MinRunPower X is selected and minimum running power is zero, leaving only the load reserves system
to work.
Step:
1 kW
Range:
0 65000 kW
Hint:
An engine will be stopped only if the sum of remaining gen-sets nominal powers is higher or equal to
#MinRunPower X level.

[ 1 / 2 / 1+2 / 3 / 1+3 / 2+3 / 1+2+3 ]

According to selected controller addresses combination (controllers must have addresses 1-3), running gensets are selected based on the actual site load.
The limits of site power bands are given by nominal powers of particular gen-sets. The gen-sets that are
required to run in certain power band get the priorities 1, other gen-sets get the priority 32. This system does
not influence the setpoint Priority.
Example:
Gen-set 1 = 20 kW
Gen-set 2 = 50 kW
Gen-set 3 = 100 kW
#PwrBandContr1 = 1 (active if load under 20-#LoadResStrt X kW)
#PwrBandContr2 = 1+2 (active between 20 .. 70-#LoadResStrt X kW)
#PwrBandContr3 = 3 (active between 70 .. 100-#LoadResStrt X kW)
#PwrBandContr4 = 2+3 (active between 100 .. 150-#LoadResStrt X kW)
Above the last power band, all gen-sets will be instructed to run.

#PwrBandChngDlUp

#PwrBandChngDlDn

Control group

[ ]

Defines the logical group which links this IM-NT with other gen-sets on the CAN bus. The gen-sets in each
logical group make the Load Sharing and VAr Sharing independently on other groups, allowing more such
groups to be present on the CAN bus. IM-NT will influence the speed/power and voltage/PF of the gen-sets
that have the same group.
Groups can be linked together using GroupLink tools.
Step:
1
Range:
COMMON (=1), 2 32

GroupLinkLeft
GroupLinkRight

[ ]

These setpoints define the gen-set groups present to both sides of a special breaker (Bus-Tie Breaker). The
information about the breaker status is sent to all controllers via CAN bus and the affected controllers will
behave according to it.
Step:
1
IM-NT MCB, MGCB, SW Version 2.6, ComAp May 2010,

IM-NT-MCB-MGCB-2.6.PDF

68

Range:
COMMON (=1), 2 32
Hint:
Example: if settings are GroupLinkLeft = 1 and GroupLinkRight = 2 and the special breaker is closed, a CAN
message is sent to notify all gen-sets in groups 1 and 2, that they should work together and make Load and
VAr Sharing not only within their groups, but together with the other group, too.
The message is sent if logical binary input GroupLink is active, and this signal should be linked to the
feedback of the special breaker (e.g. Bus-Tie).
Setpoints marked with # are over written when logical groups are interconnected. Disconected logical groups
have the same setpoints, no setpoint is automatically set to the previous value.

Load ramp

[ s ] (FV)

Increasing or decreasing load rate. In seconds / NominMainsImp (or NominBusLImp for BTB application).
Step:

Hint:
You can achieve more different load ramps using Force Value function. E.g. for soft load in parallel with
mains use longer ramp than for soft load in island parallel (multi-stand-by).
Speed of load ramping to the Mains depends on setting of Load ramp in IM-NT and also in gen-set
controllers.
The Mains import increase/decrease behaves according to following images:

Load shedding
All LOAD SHED outputs are activated (closed) to trip the unessential load when gen-set group goes to
island:
e) Before MGCB closes after mains fail and gen-set group is instructed to start in AUT mode (MGCB
application only).
f) Before first GCB closes after mains fail and gen-set group is instructed to start in AUT mode (MCB
application only).
g) When MCB opens from parallel to mains operation in AUT mode (to island-parallel operation).
h) Before MCB is opened in MAN mode by button (to island-parallel operation).
The load shedding function is active in all controller modes except OFF.

LdShedBased on

[ MAINS IMPORT / GEN-SETS ]

(FV)

Selector between two available Load Shedding algorithms:

MAINS IMPORT:
Load Shedding based on measured mains import, relative to the NominMainsImp
setpoint. If the load consumption crosses the pre-selected level, some parts of it can
be tripped to reduce the mains import.
GEN-SETS:
A total gen-set group active power, relative to their nominal powers, is the basic
value for this mode. If the load consumption crosses the pre-selected level (no

matter if in island-parallel or mains-parallel situation), some parts of it can be tripped

to reduce the gen-set group load.

Ld shed level

[ % ] (FV)

When mains import / gen-set group load exceeds this level for more than Ld shed delay time, controller
proceeds to the next Load shedding stage - the next binary output Load shed x is closed.
Step:
1 % of NominMainsImp / sum of gen-set Nomin powers
Range: Ld recon level - 200 % of NominMainsImp / sum of gen-set Nomin powers
Hint:
The limit type (NominMainsImp or sum of gen-set Nomin powers) depends on the setting of LdShedBased
on setpoint.

Ld shed delay

[ s ] (FV)

Time delay for Ld shed level limit.

Step:
0,1 s
Range:
0,0 600,0 s

Ld recon level

[ % ] (FV)

When mains import / gen-set group load drops under this level for more than Ld recon delay time, controller
proceeds to the lower Load shedding stage. The binary output for higher stage is opened (Load shed x).
Automatic load reconnection works only when AutoLd recon = ENABLED.
Step:
1 % of NominMainsImp / sum of gen-set Nomin powers
Range:
0 - Ld shed level
Hint:
The limit type (NominMainsImp or sum of gen-set Nomin powers) depends on the setting of LdShedBased
on setpoint.

Ld recon delay

[ s ] (FV)

The amount of time that the load has to be under Ld recon level before the next part of the load is
reconnected.
Step:
1s
Range:
0 - 600 s

AutoLd recon

[ DISABLED / ENABLED ]

(FV)

Switch between manual and automatic reconnection of shedded load:

DISABLED
Rising edge on the input ManualLdRecon resets controller to the lower stage, but only if the
load is under the Ld recon level. Ld recon delay is not important in this case.
ENABLED
Load reconnection is automatic and depends on setpoints Ld recon level and Ld recon
delay. Binary input ManualLdRecon has no function.

PLC settings
The content depends on actual PLC configuration. Contains all setpoints related to the configurable PLC
blocks. If this setpoint group is empty, it is not displayed.

Timer settings
TimerChannel 1-16
Defines the setting of particular timer channel.
There is 16 channels, each defines occurrence date and time (year, month, day, hour, minute), duration time
(in minutes, maximum is 24*60), repeating period (day, week, month, once). In case of week day of the
week selection, when should be executed + selection of repeating (every 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th week); In case of
month day of the month selection (e.g. every 3rd day or every 2nd Monday)
Every channel can be disabled by blocking input (physical input or logical output). If blocking input is active
then the timer is not activated.
The channels are divided into groups of 4. Every group has an independent binary output. There is also one
common output for all 16 channels.

[ DISABLED / ENABLED ]

(FV)

Enables or disables active calls/SMS/mails to selected phone, mobile or mail address when a History record
type protection occurs.
Hint:
If enabled for an SMS type active call, an empty Alarmlist would be sent, as this type of protection does not
appear there. So together with the Alarmlist content, the prefix of the History record (Hst in english) is sent
to indicate the reason for the active call (available in future SW versions).

Alarm only

[ DISABLED / ENABLED ]

(FV)

Enables or disables active calls/SMS/mails to selected phone, mobile or mail address when an Alarm only
type protection occurs.

Warning

[ DISABLED / ENABLED ]

Enables or disables active calls/SMS/mails to selected phone, mobile or mail address when a Warning type
protection occurs.

Mains protect

[ DISABLED / ENABLED ]

(FV)

Enables or disables active calls/SMS/mails to selected phone, mobile or mail address when a Mains protect
type protection occurs.
Hint:
If enabled for an SMS type active call, an empty Alarmlist would be sent, as this type of protection does not
appear there. So together with the Alarmlist content, the prefix of the Mains protection (MP in english) is
sent to indicate the reason for the active call (available in future SW versions).

MainsP w/Reset

[ DISABLED / ENABLED ]

(FV)

Enables or disables active calls/SMS/mails to selected phone, mobile or mail address when a MainsP
w/Reset type protection occurs.

Controller configuration and monitoring

IM-NT controller uses the same configuration and monitoring tools as IGS-NT controllers: GenConfig (GC)
and InteliMonitor (IMON).
GC and IMON are based on Windows 98/NT/ME/2000/XP or higher platform and require approximately 30
Mbyte of hard disc free space.

Direct connection to the PC

IGS-NT controller can be connected directly with PC via RS232 or USB interface. Use the crossed RS232 or
USB cable to connect PC with controller.
Hint:
Make sure the grounding system on controller and PC COM port (negative of the PC DC supply) are
identical before the first direct connection. There must not be any voltage between these two points
otherwise the internal PTC protection activates and interrupts RS232 communication. In such case
disconnect RS232 line, wait a minute for PTC recovery and try again. The simple solution is to assure that
the PC supply 240/20V is ground free (GND terminal is not connected).
