ASSIGNMENT 1
MOBILE APPLICATION PROPOSAL
(GRADED 5% GROUP PROJECT)

Please read ALL the instructions before proceeding!

The lab exercise should be done in group.
Propose ONE (1) idea for a mobile application. The idea may be original or supplied by someone else with
their permission. The application must be non-trivial and should take advantage of the mobile devices
features such as the camera, data storage, microphone, audio player, location-awareness, contextawareness, sensors, network access, and / or others.
The proposed mobile application must be a service oriented app. A service oriented app is one that you
would give away for free that helps people in some way. Service oriented applications may have a more
narrow audience than a general app. For example, an app that helps UiTM students may only be useful to
a few thousand users.

You will be graded on the quality and originality of your idea.

1.

For each app, research the App section of Google Play (http://play.google.com/store/apps) to see
how many, if any apps, already implement your idea. If an app already exists that implements your
idea you may still propose it if your app is different from the existing app(s) in some way. If competitor
apps exist, you must list them in your proposal and explain in what way your app will be different.
2. For each of your app ideas express the vision and scope of the app. Use the template at the end of
this assignment to describe your app.
3. Read Apple Apps Guideline for good guidance on writing mobile application proposal.
(Hint: Read item 1 through 4)
https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/MobileHIG/Pr
ocess.html

Items that should be included in the proposal are as follows.

ICT 650 LAB ASSIGMENT 1 MOBILE APPLICATION PROPOSAL
Group Name
Member Name
Date
Application name
2. Application brief explanation
3. Overview.
Background explaining the need for the proposed application.
Objectives.
Scope - target users.
4. Application major features and functionality
(you may use this as an opportunity to integrate mobile device
sensors/camera/microphone/location-detection, etc. into your features)
Explain how and when the application uses the features to provide its services to the
users.
5. Assumptions and Dependencies
Assumptions and justification on user devices feature, such as minimum required
Android version. API that this application will use.
Assumptions and justification on whether this application will need 3rd Party API (such as
from Programmable Web API, or require external database: eg- Require integration with
students registration system)
In this case, you will need to explain how would you obtain the 3rd party
database (either by registering it for free, or renting it, or by getting authorized
access from the university, or by supplying it yourselves)
Assumptions and justification on Additional Hardware dependencies
If the project require extra hardware such as arduino board (for iOt)
If the project requires external database server
Scope of Initial Release Provide a brief explanation of the application scope during
initial release.
Scope of Potential Future Releases Briefly explain on how future release will expand
the scope of the application. Explain planned additional features.
Competitive Analysis (at least three)
What apps already exist that are similar to your proposed application?
The applications major features and functions.
How is your idea different?
6. Benefits to Society & Commercialization
Explain how your mobile application will bring benefits to its target users group or to
society as a whole
