Note: The action items in RED have been updated after the call with Alstom on May

21, 2015
Action items based on answers provided by Alstom for brainstorming questions:
Research on:
1) How to convert single line diagram of SPMS building to Simulink for load flow
simulation
2) Targets, objectives and sub-functions involved in AFB1 design.
3) Frequency control strategies (such as droop control) and power sensitivity
factor.
4) Load flow solution technologies
5) Power system optimization (online and offline)
6) CP5 Singapore Standard/ Singapore network code in order to gain more
insight on constraints involved in AFB2 (load flow calculation)
7) Type of actuators/ IEDs connected to each node for measurement/ switching
purposes
Look into the following software tools in Simulink:
1) Power flow solver called powergui in Simpower system.
2) Power system application examples for more clarity on equivalent blocks in
Simulink for FCU/MCU.
3) Convert the SPMS SLD to Simulink to perform load flow simulations.
To do list:

For EcoCampus:
1) Network design specifications for NTU EcoCampus to be decided and
provided by Nilesh
2) Guideline for load modelling based on recorded data and load study from
campus buildings to be provided by Patricia
3) Engage Ecocampus to provide locations of battery/PV in the SPMS building
and additional information on baseline consumption, critical vs. non-critical
loads, consumption patterns etc.
For REIDS:
1) Network design specifications/ microgrid structure for Semakau to be decided
by NTU Profs/researchers.
2) Obtain information on CP5 from NTU library.
3) Make decisions on:
a) Selection and development of proper load flow solution (e.g. NewtonRaphson, Gauss-Siedel).
b) Which physical/ communication topology for microgrids?
c) Which and how many actuators/sensors and their location?
d) Could control subsets be formed?
4) Modelling of NTU EcoCampus and Semakau microgrid system (after network
design specifications have been decided).

5) ERI@N to either purchase MATLAB/Simulink license or set up PCs in WERL for

access to MATLAB/Simulink software through VPN.
6) ERI@N to purchase ISaGRAF software license.
7) Discuss items 5&6 of the Summary of May 21, 2015 Call with Alstom with
Prof. Choo.
8) Dr. Foo to follow up with Lip Boon with official minutes for the Alstom call (to
contrast with internal summary) and workspace.
9) Dr. Foo to follow up with Tony with revised -grid 0 figure to solicit more
detailed information on -grid 0 (to forward to Alstom)
For Alstom:
1) Alstom SGRT to assist with information on Singapore network code/
standards.
2) Alstom to provide NTU with function requirement list/template.
