As part of our Jubilee Year Celebration the Women of Grace are creating a
cookbook. We plan to have the cookbook ready for purchase by Thanksgiving. They
will make great Christmas gifts. There is a sheet on the bulletin board in the
narthex where you can sign-up for pre-orders for the cookbooks We do not have
an exact price yet, but they shouldnt be more than $15 each. For any questions
call 210-394-3423.
Projectionists are needed for Sunday services. If you are interested in doing the projection

unable to fulfill your duty on the date assigned please get your own replacement or speak
with the following people: Teresa Huegele is in charge of getting the acolytes each month,
Pastor Sam takes care of the Cantors for the service, and Dick Shafer takes care of the rest
of the worship assistants and puts together the chart.

really big thanks to Patti Garza for heading it all up! We know you spent
many days and hours getting it all decorated and ready to go.
This year has gone by fast. We had lots of fun with on Fathers Day with our
ugly tie contest and reception. This month we will have our 50th Anniversary
Celebration: Jubilee Reunion. All past and present pastors and members are
invited to Sunday worship and a nice dinner following from 1-3. We are
sending out invitations to all our old pastors. If you know of former members
to whom we can send an invitation, please let the church office or Pastor
Sam know their information. Looking ahead we will have a Back to School
party on August 28th and we will also bless the kids backpacks following the
service. I hope you will join us for all these events.

Presidents Message
July, 2016
It would seem, for the most part, that the rain is over for a while and
the sun is out and HOT!!! The countryside is really beautiful and green. The
school year is over and the youth of our church are enjoying their summer
break.
gratitude to Patti Garza and all the helpers who led our youth. It was a great
success.
We are a little behind in some of our duties to Grace. It is my fault, but
we now have a nominating committee in place. There are several members
on our council that, according to our by-laws, have fulfilled their allotted time
in service to Grace. We need others to step forward to fill those positions.
Each position has a job description which usually includes a committee to
accomplish its duties. If you are asked to serve as a member of council, it is
my prayer that you will consider it an honor that members of Grace hold you
in such esteem that they would like to follow your leadership.
The members of the nominating committee are: Teresa Huegele, Linda
James and Roger Schrank. I know each member of the committee realizes
the importance of their job. I know they are praying for Gods guidance as
they search for new people to place in nomination for church council. If you
are approached, I sincerely hope you will ask Gods guidance for your place
of service and for His will to be done through your life for the good of Grace
Lutheran and His ministry.
Our membership is small and there is a place for everyone on oneor
more of the committees that form part of the working efforts of each council
position. The more involvement from everyone the easier each task will be
and each aspect will be accomplished more efficiently. I know everyone will
want do their part for the good of Grace. Weve come so far in such a short
time. We need to build on that momentum and continue to grow in Gods
grace.
Its summertime. I hope each of you has plans to enjoy this time with
family and friends. With the warmer weather, you will want to stay hydrated
and cool. With that thought in mind, remember that Grace Lutheran Church
is a cool place to be each Sunday. Youll like it. God will be pleased to see
you there in His house. And God will shower His blessing upon you.
I pray you will be active in sharing your faith, so that you will fully
understand every blessing we have in Christ. Philemon 1:6
Im eager to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be
encouraged by yours. In this way, each of us will be a blessing to
the other. Romans 1:12
In Gods Grace,
Jerry Neuenschwander
P.S. I try to send out messages pertaining to Grace. If you would
like to be included on the email list, please send a little test page
to: neuhome3577@hillcois.net and I will be happy to include you.
The Craft Fair held on May 14th as a part of our 50th Jubilee celebration was
a big success. We had lots of vendors and wonderful pie. Thanks to all who
helped set up, clean up, and or otherwise assisted in making the craft fair a
huge triumph for our church and community.
Spirit. Summer is upon us and during this time the church sees a
decrease in the number of people attending and finances. I pray
that you all have a wonderful summer, but don't forget the church
and God's work that continues to be the mission of the church all
year long.

What would you do if you won the lottery?
Researchers posed that question to 2,500 adults and among the top responses were:
Purchase an RV.
Have a personal hairdresser. {In the RV?}
Hire a chauffeur. {For the RV?}
Yes, maam. Thankfully there were a few more altruistic answers sprinkled in as well.
But it seems humans have a fondness for spending money on themselves. And very
large vehicles.
The tendency to use any kind of freedom were given on our own desires isnt
new. The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Galatia:
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But
dont use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your
freedom to serve one another in love. Galatians 5: 13 NIV
As we celebrate freedom on the 4th of July, the last phrase in that verse keeps
repeating in my mind and heart: Use your freedom to serve one another in love.
We have a lot of freedom in America. Freedom of speech. Freedom to worship.
Freedom to do what we believe leads to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And
those freedoms werent won in a lottery. They were bought with the blood of soldiers.
And the freedom Paul spoke of was bought with the blood of our Savior.
Because were human, its easy to be selfish with our freedom. So we speak words that
tear others down. We worship false idols of fame and pleasure. We pursue whatever we
think will make us feel betterand heaven help the person who gets in our way.
So maybe today its time to pause and remember the highest, best freedom.
Love.
Lets give the gift of strong words and only speak words that make souls stronger. Lets
worship the God who gave everything for us. Lets stop our pursuits and take time to
serve the least of these.
Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if
any comfort from His love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any
tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being likeminded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do
nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value
others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you
to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:1-4
Thats what true freedom looks like. You wont find it in a snarky Facebook post. Or
in the rant of a religious leader tearing others to shreds. It wont be at the table with
gossip. Because the irony is: when we stop loving, we give up our freedom. We become
entangled in our own words and hatred until we cant breathe, cant see, cant even
drive our own RV.
Yes, July 4th is a time to celebrate an important event in history. But lets also think
about what real freedom means for us right here, right now. We dont need to win the
lottery to send out a little more love into the world, like a firework lighting up the dark
