Corrosion Inhibitor
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATION
Nalco WT-222 is a multifunctional, one-drum, scale and corrosion inhibitor for industrial open recirculating
cooling water systems.
This product was designed for systems with corrosive water and low to medium hardness and/or alkalinity.
Nalco WT-222 will provide protection over a wide range of operating conditions.
Nalco WT-222 can provide the following benefits in customer systems:
Management of cooling system operation based on the operational stresses placed upon it.
Extended tube bundle and equipment life due to reduced corrosion and scale
Reduced energy costs due to cleaner heat transfer surfaces

DOSAGE AND FEEDING

For complete dosage and feeding recommendations, consult your Nalco Sales Engineer.
DOSAGE REQUIREMENTS
START-UP
Initially, feed Nalco WT-222 at the target dosage plus 25% based upon system volume. If the system volume

is unknown or uncertain, perform Diagnostic TRASAR
chart " to determine the appropriate dosage of Nalco WT-222 and see CPP Presection under A-Z -LITE
section for further details regarding proper program control limits. Also, remember that the pH should never
rise above 8.5.

PRODUCT FEEDING AND PROGRAM COMPATIBILITY

Nalco WT-222 should be fed via a closed feed system. A closed feed system is defined as a system in which
fluid is moved from a closed storage vessel into a treated media without exposure to the atmosphere except
through normal venting or pressure relief devices.
Nalco WT-222 should be fed continuously to assure that adequate zinc residuals are maintained at all times.
Slug feed can cause localized chemical concentrations, and undesirable reactions such as precipitation of
zinc in the bulk water and potential reactions with other chemicals in the cooling water. Low product levels
will result in excessive corrosion.
Nalco WT-222 should be applied to a point in the system where rapid mixing and adequate distribution will
occur. The suction side of the circulating water pump is recommended.
This product contains anionic materials. Do not feed cationic containing materials with this program.
Periodic testing for zinc or phosphate may be useful. The soluble zinc level (0.45 micron filter) should be at
least 0.3 ppm. The difference between the filtered and unfiltered orthophosphate should be < 2 ppm.
Monitoring the water chemistry will help determine how well the chemical treatment program is working. The
following tests should be conducted on a routine basis to ensure that the water chemistry is kept in an
appropriate range.

Note: It is important to also monitor corrosion rates via coupons. If yellow metal corrosion rates are high,
determine if the makeup water copper levels are high (greater than 0.05 ppm Cu). Also double check free
chlorine residuals and the oxidizing biocide feed rate.

site NPDES permit.

SAFETY AND HANDLING

Nalco WT-222 is an acidic product, and may cause skin and eye irritation. Chemical resistant gloves and
safety goggles should be worn when handling Nalco WT-222. Read SECTION 8 of the Material Safety Data
Sheet for specific personal protective equipment and SECTION 3 for health effects information.

STORAGE
Nalco WT-222 should be stored in a location where the product temperature can be kept in a range between
26F (-3C) and 120F (49C). In cold climates, heat tracing and insulation of exposed containers and
transfer lines may be necessary.
Nalco WT-222 contains a reportable quantity (RQ) substance. All storage vessels of Nalco WT-222 must be
in secondary containment if the storage capacity exceeds the RQ of 32,400 pounds. Refer to the Material
Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), SECTION 7, for the most current data. Recommended in-plant storage limit is
one year.
