Message From President Dayton

Putting God First in Our Lives

This mortal experience is a test. Our Heavenly Father sent us here to gain a body
and gain experience as well as to be tested. The test is to see whether we will do all
things whatsoever He commands. Thus, the true key to being successful in life is
keeping the commandments and putting the Lord first in our lives. President Ezra Taft
Benson has said, When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place or
drop out of our lives. Our love of the Lord will govern the claims for our affection, the
demands on our time, the interests we pursue and the order of our priorities. We
should put God ahead of everyone else in our lives. The degree to which we put
God first in our lives will be judged by the choices we make and what our priorities
are. If the things of the world are more important, if fame is what we need to be
happy, if we want and crave power, if recreation is the only thing that satisfies us, if
our professional pursuits blot out time for God and service, and if we are mediocre
and half-hearted in our private religious practices, WE ARE MISSING THE MARK!
In my personal reading in the Book of Mormon, I have truly been feasting on the
account of the visit of the Savior to the American continent. In 3 Nephi 13:19-21, 24,
33 He makes it very clear what our priorities ought to be when He says, Lay not up for
yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, .....But lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt....For where
your treasure is, there will your heart be also......No man can serve two masters.....Ye
cannot serve God and Mammon......But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his
righteousness, and all these shall be added unto you. I believe that these scriptures
tell us that if you put God first the other worldly things that might make us comfortable
and bring righteous pleasure and joy to us will be given to us (all these shall be
added unto you). We just have to have the faith to put God first in our lives.
I believe this also has application to missionary life. If we do the minimal amount to
get by, if we waste time and are lazy, if we are disobedient while masquerading as a
true disciple of Christ, if we are personally unpure, if we serve but do so reluctantly, if
we are trunky to leave the mission field, if we just go through the motions of being a

missionary and our heart is not in itall of these suggest that we are not putting God first
in our lives but are casual disciples of convenience. Often it manifests as wanting the
spiritual experiences and fulfillment of a rich, wonderful mission but not being willing to
pay the price of hard work and obedience. Conversely, the consecrated missionary
truly gets it! He/she understands that putting God first in his life brings the Spirit into his
life, is associated with rich and rewarding spiritual experiences, and ultimately brings
great happiness. Again, President Benson has said, Just when one loses his life to God
he really finds the abundant life; so also when one sacrifices all to God, then God in
return shares all that he has with him. Try as you may, you cannot put the Lord in your
debtfor every time you try to do his will, he simply pours out more blessing upon you.
I am so overwhelmed by our great El Faro missionaries who put God first in their lives
by being obedient and working to the limits of their physical abilities. Because of their
great efforts and our generous Heavenly Father we have been blessed again this week
with a wonderful week13 baptisms!!13 more of our spirit brothers and sisters have
entered the fold and have begun their long journey back to the presence of our Father.
We have been blessed with another Gold Medal Week in which we have reached or
exceeded our weekly mission goal of 12. I am so thankful to the Lord for his goodness
and kindness to us as a mission. I love him with all of my heart and my only hope is that I
will always put Him first in my life. I know that I will find true happiness if I do. Thanks
again, Elders and Hermanas, for another wonderful week!

Message From Hermana Dayton

Contentment vs. Covetousness

Contentment is realizing that true happiness does not depend on material

conditions. It is an attitude that Heavenly Father has provided all that I need
for my present and future happiness. People who are content are satisfied
knowing they have enough and all they really need is the Lord and He will never
leave us. Be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never
leave thee nor forsake thee, Hebrew 13:5.
All of us need to understand the principal of ENOUGH. To have a healthy body,
food to eat, a roof over our head, and the love of dear friends and family is
enough. People who are able to understand the principle of enough are ALWAYS
happier. Things do not bring happiness. My son, Jon, served his mission
in Ghana. I will always remember his first emails home where he shared that the
people in Ghana have "nothing" and yet they are so happy. He told story after
story of the people who did not have the necessities of life, yet they were so
happy... and content. He said over and over again Ive learned that happiness
does not come from the things we own. Happiness comes as we know the Savior
and our Heavenly Father and serve others. Im so grateful that at 18 years of age
he was able to learn this truth.
In the scriptures our Heavenly Father identifies two things that we need in
life. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 1 Timothy 6:8. In
Matthew we read, Therefore, take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or,
What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these
things do the Gentiles seek:) for your Heavenly father knoweth that ye have need
of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and
all these things shall be added unto you, Matthew 6:31-33.

Contentment is setting our affections on eternal treasures rather than temporal

possessions. It is experiencing the qualities of Godliness without the distraction of
earthly cares.
Our Heavenly Father has a need for each one of us and we have a need for
Him. He works through us to accomplish His needs here on earth. Heavenly Father
created us to have a need for Him. To survive we need to eat food daily and He
instructed us to pray, Give us this day our daily bread Matthew 6:11. He also
pointed out that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that
proceedeth out of the mouth of God, Matthew 4:4. As we focus on spiritual
things, not material things we are peaceful and content.
We can apply contentment to missionary work by:
--Learning to love your area, even if it is a harder proselyting area
--Being thankful and content with the companions we have
--Valuing people more than numbers
--Being content with who you are and the talents you have been blessed with

We are grateful for each of you and the way you demonstrate being content
with your areas, companions, apartments, the talents you have been blessed
with, etc. We admire your righteous desire in bringing others to the Savior.
Much love and gratitude for each of you!

A Message from the Ayudantes

All of us as missionaries have grown, matured, learned gospel

truths, and experienced unforgettable miracles throughout the
course of this year. Even recently, we have seen such success in all
parts of the mission. However, we believe in the principle of
continual progression. So, we look forward with faith!
The Spanish Summer is upon us. The marvelous days of heavy
sweating in the middle of the night, racing to the nearest water
fountain in the capilla, and contacting relentlessly under the hot
sun have begun. Its just magical, isnt it?

Faith is directed towards the future. It builds on the past but

never longs to stay there. We must have the faith that this summer,
God has great things in store for each of us. And so we ask, What
does the future hold for us? In what direction is the Lord leading us?
And what are we willing to sacrifice in order to head in His
direction?
It all starts or stops with us. This is the season to raise up to the
level the Lord has set for his lighthouse mission. Our lighthouse will
shine as bright as the noonday Spanish Sun.
We are representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are the
SPAIN BARCELONA MISSION. For us, there are no limits. Here in El
Faro, we teach repentance and baptize converts. Lets make the
summer of 2016 the best summer of our lives... Make it the best of
your life! We know each and every one of you will participate in
many more miracles as we work in this summer with excitement,
faith, and zeal.
We love you and pray for you.

too bad though, the focus
was still on Jimmy, and it
really meant a lot to him that

Seeing the baptism of

Lourdes and Vicky was so
gratifying. We have been
through a lot with them, but
every bit was worth it. The
baptismal
service
was
absolutely beautiful, with a lot
of support from the ward.
When we sang the songs "Soy
un hijo de Dios" and "Las
familias pueden ser eternas" I
felt the spirit testify that the
words were true. The girls
were so excited, and their
family was too! I know that
they all felt the spirit and
hopefully in the near future
will be able to be baptized as
well.

Well this past Friday Enya

passed her baptism like we
knew she would and we
proceeded to fill the font and
get everything ready! Enya is
very shy so we invited only a
few people, those closer to
her. Her baptismal service
was incredible. She looked
so beautiful in her white dress.
As I walked her to the
bathroom into the font she
started to get all nervous and
said she was going to fall and
drown ( haha normal 13 year
old thoughts!) We ended up
saying a short prayer. I
hugged her and opened the
door for her to walk into the
font. Carlos, ( who baptized
her) a close friend of hers was
ready with his hand extended
out. Enya was baptized under
the
authority
of
the
priesthood and brought tears
to everyone in the room. My
companion and i walked in
to help her change

afterwards and then her

mom comes in. We're all so
concentrated on Enya that
we didn't realize Rosa Ana
was crying her eyes out. After
we realized it I began to
speak to her about what she
was feeling was the spirit of
God testifying to her that
what her daughter had just
done was of God. I then told
her that we wanted THAT for
HER. After we all came back
to close the baptism and
Rosa Ana shared a few words
to Enya. The words she spoke
were so beautiful that my
companion and I were both
crying! I just cant describe
how beautiful and amazing it
is to witness a child of God
coming unto God through
Baptism.
