BA LLB (Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Law) is a ve-year integrated programme, offered at the undergraduate
level. Students aspiring to build a career in law can opt for this course, after passing 10+2 examination.
Undergraduates in the eld of law are imparted comprehensive knowledge about the Indian Pedal Code.Law
undergraduates should complete compulsory internship at the end of the course, at various law rms. BA LLB
degree course provides myriad career opportunities. After doing the course, one can enter the eld of law, and
work as lawyer in the courts at different levels. Corporate lawyers are also in great demand, in the present time.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Student must appear for either LSAT/ CLAT (Conducted by Pearson VUE) or NLAT (NIMT Law
Admission Test) for admission to the BA LLB Course
2. If you have appeared in LSAT/ CLAT. Please apply directly based on your LSAT/ CLAT Score.
3. A candidate should have passed Standard XII (10+2) or equivalent examination from any recognized
Board with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for S.C./ S.T.). A candidate who has appeared for his/ her
Standard XII (10+2) or equivalent examination can apply. However, his/ her admission will be subject
to obtaining a minimum of 45% marks (40% for S.C./ S.T.). The last date for submission of
mark/grade sheet will be on or before 30th September of prevailing academic year.

CAREER AS LAWYER
Lawyers are authorised by the state to advise and defend clients in legal matters before the court. Law
establishes the rules that dene a persons rights and obligations and denes their enforcement.
The people handling legal issues are:

Judges
Judges ensure that justice is administered to safeguard the legal rights of all parties involved.
Judges preside over trials or hearings and listen as lawyers representing the parties present and argue their
cases pertaining to virtually every aspect of society.
Solicitors
Solicitors give legal advice and represent clients in legal matters.
Solicitors rms undertake cases related to their area of work.
Lawyers
Lawyers act as advocates and advisors
As advocates, they represent one of the opposing parties in criminal and civil trials in court, cross examine
witnesses and nally sum up the reasons why the court should decide in their clients favour.
As advisors they counsel their clients about legal rights and obligations
They research laws applicable to the case at hand and previous judgements under circumstances similar to
those currently faced by the client
Lawyers specialise in:
Criminal law Criminal lawyers specialize in matters having legal implications such as theft, murder and
arson which are considered offences against society or State.
Real estate Real estate lawyers deal with cases involving property.
Civil law Civil Law operates in matters of property, contract and commercial issues, inheritance, family
and even corporations.
Tax law Tax lawyers handle cases concerning income-tax, wealth tax, gift tax, estate duty, etc.
International law A set of international legal rules are observed by all the nations in relation to one
another.
Labour law Labour lawyers specialize in solving the problems arising between the management and the
labour force in any organisation
Others Other branches include family law, constitutional law, corporate law, excise law, customs and
transportation. Globalisation of businesses has created a need for legal compliance which has created a
special niche for legal eagles dealing in all matters concerning business

Legal executives
Advise their employers on legal matters.
Work on cases of litigation for the rm.
Represent their rm in the court of law in all legal matters
Perform administrative functions and handle in-house legal problems e.g check deeds, issue writs, collect
information for afdavits and draft legal documents
Represent the business house while discussing legal issues with other rms
Lawyers in Defence services
Deal with legal matters concerning the state and conduct courts of enquiry and court martials of
offending service personnel.
Political advisors
Advise on legal issues concerning various political matters.
Lawyers with the government
Indian Legal Service posts are that of the Magistrate, District and Sessions judge, Munsifs (submagistrate), Public prosecutor, solicitors, Attorney general, Advocate General, Notary and Oath
Commissioner. There are also legal secretaries appointed in assemblies, law inspectors, legal ofcers in
banks, judicial members of income tax, sales tax and excise departments, government advocates and staff
in Registrar of Companies ofce.

Lawyers report on topical issues or on matters of general interest to newspapers, trade journals, television
and radio programs etc.
Law publishing involves journals, magazines and legal books
Jobs associated with law
The role of a company secretary is one recognized in legislation.
Notaries are public ofcers appointed to draw up, authenticate and certify deeds and documents

BALLB Program at NIMT

Admission to BA LLB

About NLAT
Registrations for NLAT can be done at the Institute's website: www.nimt.ac.in
S/he must pay INR 750 as the registration fee for NLAT
Student is given login for the examination portal and a time slot where S/he can attempt the examination
The examination is delivered on edX and is remotely proctored by proctors. A test taker is free to attempt
this exam from any computer. The student should make sure that the room is empty (has no other individual)
and there is no reference material open.
The result for NLAT is immediately recorded and declared to the student. On the basis of combination of
12th Aggregate Score and NLAT Score, student is given admission to the BA LLB programme.
Conditions for Eligibility:
