Introduction
ThereareseveraltypesoftransportrequestsintheSAPsystem,twoofwhichyouaremostfamiliarwith.

CustomizingRequestsaregenerallyforsystemcustomizingactivitiesthatyouddoinSPRO.
WorkbenchRequestsaregenerallyforthingsyouwouldcreateintheABAPworkbench.Thisisprimarily
codeorcustomobjects.

Mosttoallofyournormaldevelopmentandcustomizingworkisdoneinthesetwotransporttypes.Whenyouuse
thesetransporttypes,thesystemassumesyouaregoingtomovethecontentsofyourtransporttotheQAsystem,and
thentotheProductionsystem.Whileinaperfectworldthisistrue,notalltransportswillbegoingtoproductiondueto
testing,bugfixes,andscopechanges.

Forthisreason,wewanttouseadifferenttransporttypecalledTransportofcopies.Atransportofcopieswillmove
thelatestversionofanobjectincludedtothesystemofyourchoice,butwillnotassumethatyouwanttomoveitto
production.Therefore,ittransportsacopyoftheobjectbutassumesthatitsfinaldestinationisonlythesystemthat
youaremovingitto.Anormaltransportontheotherhandwouldassumeitsgoingtothesystemthatyouremovingit
to(QA)andallothersystemsdownstreamfromit.(Production)

Alsoforthisreason,wecanmoveallthetransportsofcopieswewantandwewontseethemaffectthedownstream
system.(Production)Theywillonlyaffectthesystemthatwemovetheminto.Youwillstillbeopeningasingle
CustomizingorWorkbenchrequesttomoveyourchangestoproduction,butyouwillonlybereleasingtheserequests
whenyouknowyouarereadytomove.ForunittestinginQAyouwillbemovingTransportofCopiesuntilyouare
satisfiedwithwhatyouhave.Atthistime,youwillreleaseyouroriginalchangerequestandmoveitintoQAforfinal
UserAcceptancetesting.Bydoingthis,youwillbeusingasingletransportforyourchangethatwillultimatelygoto
production.
