Careers and Employability

Centre Guide for disabled

students

What we can do for you

We recommend all our students to think about their careers as early as possible and
the Careers & Employability Centre is here to assist you at every stage of your
career progression. We work with students from the minute that they arrive at
Sussex. We provide:
One to one careers guidance, usually in the form of an initial 20 minute meeting.
This can help with topics such as how to find a part time job, get work
experience, write job applications, and advice surrounding issues of
disclosure.
A comprehensive website with a section devoted to Equality and Diversity including
links to specialist organisations who work with students with disabilities
www.sussex.ac.uk/careers/diversity
A programme of events. Employer presentations, CV and interview workshops,
talks by Sussex graduates.
Vacancies. For part-time work whilst studying, vacation work/ work experience,
finalist and graduate jobs.
We will not pass on any information about you without your permission.

Disclosing disabilities
We would encourage you to share information with us during careers interviews
about any adjustments that you may need both to access our services and also
regarding your future careers ideas. However this is completely at your discretion.
We are happy to talk to you about whether to disclose your disability to future
employers and also explore ways in which you could do this.
Call 01273 678429 or email careers@sussex.ac.uk for an appointment. Careers &
Employability staff are available to give advice and assistance on employment while
studying at Sussex.
