    PUNE:A24x7touristhelpline,afourdigittollfreetelephonelineforinformationonnaturaldisastersand
    calamitiesandsupervisingtransportationserviceproviderstoensuretheirvehiclesmeetsafetystandardson
    speedandGPSaresomemeasurestheMaharashtraTourismDevelopmentCorporation(MTDC)willadopt.
    Encouraginghotelstohaveseparatewomenfloorsandestablishingspecialunitstodealwithcrimesagainst
    touristsatpopulardestinationsareotherstepsthecorporationwillincorporateinaccordancewiththeUnion
    ministryoftourism'sguidelinesframedafterthesectorreceivedmuchflakonlackofsafety.
    TheministryhadcirculatedtheguidelinestotourismdepartmentsofallthestatesandUnionterritories.Officials
    intheministryoftourismsaidstatetourismdepartmentscouldusethemtocreatetheirownmeasuresfor
    protectionoftourists.
    ValsaRNairSingh,secretary,tourism,andmanagingdirector,MTDCtoldTOIthattheguidelineswillensurethat
    touristscomingtothestatehaveasafeandbetterexperience."Followingthemwillhelpthetourismsectorin
    Maharashtraflourish,apartfromensuringhighqualityofservice,"sheadded.
    Theguidelinesalsosuggestedthatstatesgradetravelinformationduringcalamitieswitha'highdegreeof
    caution'or'reconsideryourneedtotravel'.Theysaididentificationandlocatingtouristsduringemergencies
    shouldalsobepartofsafetymeasuresandstatesshouldconsiderdevelopingvariousonlinetravelregistration
    toolstocollecttourists'data.
    Regulatingtransportservicesandthehotelandrestaurantsectortomeetthestandardswillalsobetakenupby
    thecorporation.Somestandardsthattransportserviceproviderswillhavetomeetincludecompulsoryuseof
    seatbeltsintaxis,GPS,compulsoryneedforaseconddriverduringlongdistancejourneys,andavailabilityof
    womendrivers,amongotherthings.
    Hotelswillalsobeencouragedtohaveseparatewomenfloors,dedicatedladyhousekeepingstaffandregular
    trainingofstaffonthetheme'Irespectwomen'.Inaddition,MTDCmayalsoconsiderestablishingspecialunits
    withinstateenforcementagenciestodealwithcrimesagainsttourists.
