Legal System in New Zealand:

- The court of final appeal in New Zealand is the Supreme

Court.
It hears the appeals in both civil and criminal cases,
although they much be of particular public or legal
significance to reach this level.
- New Zealanders have a strong and independent system
of justice that protects them, which is regarded highly
worldwide.
- Judges in the court in New Zealand are not elected into
their roles, they are appointed by the Governor-General
who acts on the advice of the Attorney General, who is a
Cabinet Member in the government.
Comparing:
- In Australia we have three branches of government like
New Zealand do. In New Zealand they are called: the
Legislature, Executive and Judiciary. In Australia they are
called the three arms of government; the Legislative (or
Parliament), the Executive (the Australian Government)
and the Judicial (the legal arm of the federal government).
In New Zealand and Australia the three branches have the
same role, this is because New Zealands Parliament also
has development from the British parliamentary system
known as the Westminster stem of government.
- The Head of State of New Zealand is Queen Elizabeth II,
as the same for Australia, who is represented by the
Governor General.
Differences:
- In Australia we have three levels of law-making: federal
(national) parliament, state/territory parliaments and local
councils.
- New Zealand does not have a single written constitution,
like Australia does. New Zealands constitutional
arrangements can be found in a number of key
documents. These together with NZs constitutional
conventions, form the nations constitution.
