The walkways of Podesta Ranch will be used to get from one place to another in a
safe and orderly manner.

Students will give the right of way for younger students and adults.

Teacher Responsibilities:
Use this lesson plan to teach students rules and procedures of walkways.
o These lessons should be conducted in a way that informs the students of
the rationale for the procedures and should be presented in a way that
shows faculty and students work together.
Teachers will consistently enforce rules and procedures with students for
walkways.
o While on campus, staff members should interact positively with students
as they pass by. The goal is to supervise in a warm and friendly way
rather than a cold and hostile way.
Teachers will reinforce rules and procedures with students for walkways.
o Teachers will practice the procedure with students at the beginning of
the school year and as needed throughout the year.
o After breaks and if there are reoccurring problems with students,
teacher will revisit lesson plans.
Staff will ensure that students will walk in a single file line on walkways.
Staff walking with students will stay with the line and be aware of student
behavior throughout the line.
Staff will have stopping points to make sure that all students stay together

lines.

Cafeteria
Goal:
The lunch line and lunch area will be a safe and clean environment where people
interact with courtesy and respect.

Student Responsibilities:
While in line students will keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves.
Students will plan ahead and pick up all necessary lunch items before sitting
down at the table (spork, milk, condiments, and salad bar items).
Students will stay in their seats and raise their hands to get help, or get
permission to leave their seats.
When dismissed, students will dispose of their lunch trays correctly and walk to
the playground.
Lunch monitors (chosen by each classroom teacher) will assist the lunchroom
staff to clean their classrooms table.
Teacher Responsibilities:
Each class will have two designated lunch monitors (weekly) who will assist the
lunchroom staff in cleaning their classrooms table. They will wipe off their
own table and sweep up any large trash.
Each teacher will make sure all students are lined up in an orderly fashion and
walk with their class to the cafeteria on time (please follow the lunch
schedule).
Each teacher will pick up their own class at their designated line on the
playground on time.
Each teacher will escort their own class back to their classroom in an orderly
manner.
At the beginning of the school year, and after long vacations, classroom
teachers will teach the rules and expectations as outlined.
Lunch room supervisor will keep students in an orderly line as students wait for
their lunches to be served.
Yard Duty will constantly circulate throughout the cafeteria, interacting with
students in a friendly manner.
Yard Duty will assist students with their hands raised as soon as possible (open
milk, etc).
If a student violates a rule, Yard Duty will use a firm, respectful voice to tell
the student what he/she should be doing.
Cafeteria workers will retrieve cleaning supplies and prepare them for use prior
to the students arrival.
Yard Duty will dismiss students from tables by quietest and cleanest tables.
Yard Duty will call the office to ask for assistance when necessary.

Bathroom
Goal:
The bathrooms at Podesta Ranch will be kept clean, and used in a safe and
appropriate manner.

Student Responsibilities:
Students will have a bathroom hall pass in plain sight when out during class
time.
Students will take the shortest possible time to use the bathroom.
Teacher Responsibilities:
Use this lesson plan to teach students rules and procedures of bathroom.
These lessons should be conducted in a way that informs the students of the
rationale for the procedures and should be presented in a way that shows
faculty and students work together.
Teacher will consistently enforce rules and procedures with students the
bathroom.
Any teacher passing by a bathroom should make a quick check to see that
appropriate bathroom behavior is being followed.
Teachers will reinforce rules and procedures with students for bathroom.
o Teacher will practice the procedure with students at the beginning of
the school year and as needed throughout the year.
o After breaks and if there are reoccurring problems with students,
teacher will revisit lesson plans.
Teachers will have a log in their classrooms for students using the restrooms,
including the time students left the classroom and return time.
During lunch and recess, do quick checks to see if the appropriate bathroom
behavior is being followed.

Student Responsibilities:
Students will show respect for others and follow instructions given by staff.
Students will leave dangerous and hazardous objects alone and immediately
tell staff.
Students will show pride in their school by keeping the buildings and grounds
free of litter.
Students will eat snacks in the designated area only and dispose of their trash.
Students will leave dangerous and unsafe objects at home along with cameras,
radios, CD players, iPods, video games, toys, and balls.
Students not involved in permitted after school programs will leave the school
promptly.
Teacher Responsibilities:
Teachers will meet their students at the designated playground area and walk
them back to class following Walkway Procedures.
Report to duty on time with a whistle, a clipboard, office referrals, walkietalkie, vest, and Band-Aids.
All yard duties will circulate in an unpredictable manner in their assigned zones
and avoid standing in one place or talking with one another.
All yard duties will be visible and interact positively with many students by
greeting them and engaging in short, friendly conversations. Students are not
to hang-out with yard duties unless they are shadowing for a time out.
Yard duties are not to play games with the children. You need to be
circulating.
