Modifications/MIP:

Each wall of the gymnasium is given a name that correlates to

the directions on a boat (Stern- back, Starboard- right-hand
side, Bow-front and Port- left-hand side)

Use of hand signals to aid students with hearing

disabilities if necessary
In addition to running students will be instructed to
use different movements to travel through the space
such as skipping, hopping, jumping, crawling etc.
This game could be modified and adapted to include a
multidisciplinary approach that combines movement
skills with other curriculum content. For example- this
game could be used in developing language familiarity
in LOTE or TESOL classes, or when introducing new
science, math or English concepts by replacing the
ship directions with topic specific/relevant
vocabulary.
Signage could be placed on the walls to aid younger
students or as cues for LOTE or TESOL students- the
advantage is that, depending on the size of the
gymnasium more than 4 signs could be used.
MIP: All students are required to participate,

Diagram of Activity:
Location: Gymnasium

The students begin the game in the middle of the gym. The
teacher calls out one of the directions on the boat. The
students must then run to the correct direction called and
touch the wall.
The teacher continues to call out different directions.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will develop their fundamental movement skills (FMS) eg. Running, skipping, hopping etc.
Student will take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others when moving about the space
Students will develop their spatial awareness as they move around others within the space
