Research Proposal
The community that I intend to research is the FSU Med school. I intend to
research this community due to my interest in the medical field with regards to my
future career ambitions and because of my familys involvement in the medical
field. My grandmother was a navy nurse during World War 2 and also happened to
attend FSU from 1947-48 along with my Grandfather. My father is a medical X-ray
technician and has been for more than two decades. I myself personally am
interested in the medical field because I want to be an open heart surgeon, general
practitioner, or some sort of biomedical researcher. Currently, my knowledge of the
FSU Med School isnt to vast, however, I do know that application into this
community is quite competitive and that pre-requisite classes must be taken for
premed in order to qualify as a potential candidate for the actual Med school. The
information pertaining to application into the community and academic merit
needed to qualify as a candidate can be found at the FSU College of Medicine
Website. As of now, the genres of the medical field (being defined in this context as
the type of task pertaining to biological repair or research) are the transplantation of
organs, looking at and evaluating a patients current health and wellbeing from a
general standpoint by considering the entire whole of their body, or the genre of
studying and developing new methods and technologies to advance the medical
field itself. I intend to interview Robert J. Campbell, Christopher A Leadem, and
Graham A Patrick with a different reason for each one of them. For Dr. Campbell, his
knowledge pertaining to student affairs will be invaluable to a young and raw
premed student as he will be able to provide more insight into what the entirety of
the Med School is and about the way students function within and why. With Dr.
Leadem being a Professor and a Dean, he may be able to provide further
information with regards to the general routine that most Med school students fall
into that help them become successful and earn their degree. As for Dr. Patrick, his
positions as a Professor and an Assistant Dean for Admissions means that he will be
able to help me better understand the application process into the Med school as
well as help provide further insight as to how Professors in the Med school run their
courses. With my secondary resource, I shall search for data pertaining to the fields
of study within the Med school, programs, any notable scientific discoveries or
breakthroughs, and the general history of the program. From the interviews, I shall
seek information that could be considered invaluable to a young freshman looking
at the daunting task of getting accepted into the Med school as well knowledge to
help me better understand the program and where the road is to lead from there.
My only question is this, is what I have established as meaning genre with regards
to the medical field a correct concept or should it be different?
