When Melanie Bergevin, a financial advisor with Edward Jones

in Lincoln, graduated from college with a business degree, she
planned to pursue a career in management and marketing.
However, in 2000, her life took an abrupt detour. While jogging, she was hit by an uninsured driver and suffered a broken
back and leg. After six months of physical therapy, she was able
to walk again.
But then came the medical bills.
It was pretty devastating but a huge lesson in insurance,
Bergevin said.
The good news was that the accident and the stretch of time
away from work fostered a life-changing career shift.
Bergevins financial ethic developed in her teens when
she saved and invested money earned from part-time jobs.
Following the accident, she decided to put that gift for money
management to use by helping others.
I decided that helping people with their money is how I can
give back, Bergevin said. I can show people how your life can
change in a split second and how it pays to be prepared when
it does.

I love Georges, said a customer on Georges Friendly Auto Service website. They are so great and knowledgeable. Ive taken my car to multiple shops in the
past and Georges is definitely the best, especially on
price! I drive the extra few miles just so I know Ill get
good service. The shop guy even knows me by name.
When another customers air conditioner in his Honda
starting blowing warm air, he called up Georges
Friendly Auto Service.
They had me in right away and recharged my air
conditioner in about an hour. Cost me $70. They have a
small and quiet waiting room with WiFi right next to the

Recently, a little dog 12 pounds of fluffy, sweet-faced,

curly-tailed pup was brought into the Critter Creek Veterinary Hospital, the victim of a run-in with a car.
He had a collapsed lung and was badly bruised, said Audrey Conely, Critter Creeks office manager. We hospitalized
him for a day but now hes doing OK. Hes just a brand new
dog.
For 15 years, Critter Creek has helped pets in the Lincoln
area.
With two veterinarians on staff, they see more than 30 pets
per day for wellness checks, illnesses and injuries at their
new state-of-the-art facility at 140 Gateway Drive in Lincoln,
Conely said.
Critter Creek is a full-service animal hospital providing
care to dogs, cats and rabbits. Their veterinarian serving
Wheatland and Lincoln offers wellness exams that help
pet owners solve behavioral or dietary problems, and
recommends annual wellness care appointments for pets,

The Spa offers a selection of anti-aging and moisturizing
facials and body treatments using high quality professional-grade products, said Spa manager Stacey Diemer.
Nail treatments include manicures and pedicures with
optional paraffin wax applications and defoliating scrubs.
Our staff of well-trained specialists are honored to serve all
of our clients to give them an experience of peace, comfort and
serenity, Diemer said.
Her favorite part of her job is working with loyal, positive
clients, Diemer said.

Dr. Grover Lee, winemaker and owner of Wise Villa Winery,

was raised in Californias Central Valley winemaking region.
He worked in the grape vineyards and wineries in high school
and during summers while earning his B.S. degree in biological science and chemistry.
Studying wine, wine regions and winemaking techniques
was part of his passion for learning during his dual degree
for years of Ph.D. work in biochemistry and his doctorate in
clinical pharmacy.
His wine and medical knowledge continued as he received
his medical school board certification in managed care
medicine. Many years of European travels and learning from
world-class winemakers helped develop his European-influenced winemaking style.
In 2005, Lee planted his first vines on the Wise Villa estate
in the rolling hills east of Lincoln. And 10 years later in 2015,
Wise Villa Winery was awarded the Golden State Winery of the
Year (No. 1 Winery in California) from the California State Fair,
receiving the highest number of the highest-scoring quality
wines. Not Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles or any winery in California came close to the awards received by Wise Villa Winery.

The flavors of Old Town Pizza have stayed the same since its Auburn
inception, offering families delectable pizza while expanding to
Lincoln and Roseville.
Even the recipes have stayed true to Brian and Maureen Hayes
original dough and menu.
The dough and other recipes set us up for success, said Russ
Yeager, marketing director and co-owner. We want it to be very family
friendly . You come in and youll be taken care of.
The snoring miner has also stayed, to show even hard-working
miners would eat and rest there. The restaurant is full service, offering a variety of specials, beer, salad, many sandwiches, stuffed bell
peppers and gluten-free options.
Reese Browning, CEO, worked with them in the Auburn location,
learning to run the pizza restaurant before he and his family purchased it in 2002. They have been winning the Best of the Best award
every year since. Brownings kids learned serving and management
while his parents specialized in decorating, maintenance and safety.
Since it opened in 1999, area youth have worked there, now for generations, Yeager said.

Older brothers have gone on to college and the younger ones come
in, Yeager said. We want to be a place thats cool to work at.
The business grew in 2004 with a new Lincoln Location. Reeses son,
Mason, was general manager and it has won Best of the Best for Lincoln from 2005 until now. Other family members have taken over since.
The business grew again in 2012 with an OTP To Go in Lincoln,
and in 2015, its biggest growth yet: An 8,000-square-foot Roseville
location. Through it all, Yeager said the community-focused values
remained.
When it comes to our marketing dollar, a lot of money goes back
to the community. We try never to say no, Yeager said, as long as
donations are direct to charities or schools. We like giving back and
supporting Auburn, having everyone be successful.
This July, that means Customer Appreciation Month: 50 percent off Old Town Pizza in Lincoln.
