SOC SCI 201 (Social Science II).

INTRODUCTION TO ECONOMICS
WITH TAXATION AND AGRARIAN REFORM
Prerequisite: Math 1 (College Algebra)
The course introduces the basic principles of market economy
dynamicsand how resources are allocated by individual decisionmaking units. It also focuses on the determination and analysis of
national income accounts, inflation, unemployment and trade and their
impact to societal growth. Towards the end of the course, it
tacklesPhilippine agrarian reform and taxation concepts.
ECON 101. BASIC MICROECONOMICS
Prerequisite: SocSci 201 (Principles of Economics with TAR)
This is a fundamental course in economics which deals with the
economic behavior of individual units: consumers, firms, and resources
owners. It develops the understanding of the workings of the price
system and the analysis of the market behavior under different
competitive market structures. It stresses the role of competitive
markets in the promotion of economic efficiency and the effects of
government intervention in the marketplace.
ECON 1. BASIC MACROECONOMICS
Prerequisite: SocSci 201 (Principles of Economics with TAR)
This considers the economy in its major aggregates that mirrors the
performance of a country. It looks upon the functioning of the goods and
assets markets, further through the dynamic model of aggregate
demand and aggregate supply, and policy which affect the economic
flows of resources as well as, income, savings, investment, taxes, trade.
ECON 2. HISTORY OF ECONOMIC THOUGHT
Prerequisite: SocSci 201 (Principles of Economics with TAR)
This course is primarily concerned with the development of economic
theories and doctrine from ancient world to the modern world. It
particularly aims to familiarize the students with the history of economic
theories development and explain why and how the views and
intellectual insights of great economists influence contemporary policy.
ECON 3. ADVANCED MICROECONOMICS
Prerequisite: Econ 101 (Basic Microeconomics)
This course covers advanced topics in Microeconomics.
ECON 4. ADVANCED MACROECONOMICS
Prerequisite: Econ 1 (Basic Macroeconomics)
This course is a more elaborate discussion on the workings of the
economy in the aggregate. Topics for discussion include national
income theory, money, taxation and public expenditure, employment,
the price level and international trade and payments.
ECON 5. INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS
Prerequisites: Econ 101/Econ1/Econ3/Econ4/Math II (Business
Statistics)
A study specialization that applies both macroeconomic and
microeconomic principles to international trade and to international
finance. International economics deals with the economic interactions in
the global economy. Often this interaction is viewed in terms of the
domestic economy and the foreign sector.

ECON 6. PROJECT DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT


Prerequisite: Econ 101 (Basic Microeconomics)
The course tackles the attributes that characterize a project, the five
steps of the project management process and the variables involved in
the project management process.
ECON 7. STRATEGIC CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT
Prerequisite: Econ 101 (Basic Microeconomics)
The course considers multiple functional groups within the company
(including market research, pricing, business development, operations
and financial analysis) and will involve exposure to nearly all
dimensions of the proprietary business operation.
ECON 8. MANAGERIAL ECONOMICS
Prerequisite: SocSci 201 (Principles of Economics with TAR)
This course focuses on the application of the tools of economic
analysis in business management decision-making. It focuses on three
areas: theory of the firm, market structure and pricing and role of
government in the business economy.
ECON-ELECTIVE 1. ECONOMIC STATISTICS
Prerequisite: Econ 101/Econ1/Econ3/Econ4/Math II (Business
Statistics)
This is an introductory course on statistics, with examples to
demonstrate its applications in business and economics. There will be
a strong emphasis on the concepts and application of probability
theory, random variables, distributions, sampling theory, statistical
inference, correlation and linear regression.
ECON-ELECTIVE 2. ECONOMICS RESEARCH 1
Prerequisite: Math II (Business Statistics), Econ 3 (Advanced
Microeconomics)

ECON-ELECTIVE 3. MONETARY AND FISCAL ECONOMICS
Prerequisite: Econ 101 (Basic Microeconomics), Econ 4 (Advanced
Macroeconomics/Fin I (Basic Finance)
This course looks at different models of monetary economies, which
offer different motivations for the existence of money. Focus will be on
modeling monetary policy, evaluation of policy performance and
analyze alternative policy rules to the open economy. The
interdependence of monetary and fiscal policy will be analyzed,
ECON-ELECTIVE 4. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Prerequisite: Econ 5 (International Economics)
It focuses on the analysis of development principles, models and
strategies and approaches. It deals with the core values of
development, the cause of imperfect development, the various theories
and meanings of development and the problems and constraints in the
development goals and objectives of the community or a nation. The
course will also identify and discuss the characteristics and problems of
less developed countries, criteria of growth and development with
emphasis on the strategies for development, obstacles to economic
growth and policies for promoting growth.
ECON-ELECTIVE 5. FEASIBILITY STUDY
Prerequisite: Man I (Principles of Management/Mark I (Principles of
Marketing)
ECON 118. PRACTICUM
Prerequisite: 4th Year Standing
The course supports students embarking on their \first applied
practicum course in preparation for professional work as business
practitioners.
