UPDATE: DRINKING WATER ADVISORY FOR

THE TOWN OF ARNPRIOR FULLY LIFTED
-

August 12, 2016

1:30 pm

Please be advised that the drinking water advisory issued to all users of the Municipal
Water System in the Town of Arnprior on August 10, 2016 has been lifted. Renfrew
County and District Health Unit issued the drinking water advisory as a precautionary
measure due to a significant pressure loss in the municipal drinking water distribution
system.
The system has been thoroughly flushed with fresh water and Renfrew County and
District Health Unit has received confirmation that the two required sets of samples
taken 24 hours apart have met the microbiological water quality standards, as set out in
Schedule I of Ontario Regulation 169/03 (Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards).
Tap water can now be used normally for drinking, cooking, and bathing. Before the first
use, residents should:
.

Run cold water faucets and drinking fountains for at least five minutes

Remove screens on taps and rinse them to clean any trapped sediment before
replacing.

Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle.

Drain and refill hot water tanks.

Drain and flush any ice-making systems in refrigerators.

Due to hydrant flushing activities that were undertaken by Town staff, rusty coloured
water may be present in your tap water when first turned on. The coloured water is not
hazardous to your health. This situation is temporary and should not last any longer
than 2 hours.
If you previously came into contact with municipal water before the Advisory was lifted
fl4 are feeling unwell, consider speaking to a health-care provider or calling Telehealth
Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.

For more information contact the Renfrew County and District Health Unit at 1-800-2671097, ext. 555.

BOTTLE RECYCLING

The Town has set up a large container in the parking lot at the Nick Smith Centre for the
recycling of plastic bottles. If you have more plastic bottles that can fit in your blue box,
please bring these containers to the Nick Smith Centre for recycling. Please note that
the large I 8.9 L jugs (water cooler jugs) from Nelson should not go into the large
container or be placed at the curbside, they should be returned to a Town staff member
at the Nick Smith Centre separately.
Please remember that rigid recyclable containers, like bottles, may not be placed in
plastic bags. They must be placed loose in your blue bin or they will not be collected.

The Town would like to thank residents and businesses for their patience and
understanding during the Advisory period.

Please monitor the Towns website and media for further updates. Additional
information and updates can be found on the Towns Website at www.arnprior.ca
